When Kimberly Anne joined Tinder, she hoped to meet new people and maybe even fall in love. She had heard of many horror online dating stories before, so, naturally, she was careful at first.
It wasn't long before she matched with a handsome man who would sweep her off her feet. But she had no idea that he was engaged the entire time.
She Downloaded Tinder
One evening, Kimberly was feeling bored and decided to install Tinder to pass the time. So, she downloaded the app and uploaded a few selfies to her profile.
She added a short bio and began looking through the profiles of men in her area.
She Was Looking For Love
Kimberly noticed that most men were looking for friends with benefits or something casual. But she was looking for love.
But then, she saw Alex.
Alex
Alex was a little older than her and was also looking for something serious. He was handsome and had the cutest smile.
Kimberly swiped right, hoping he would like her too. After a few minutes, she got a notification. They matched!
They Were Both Looking For Something Serious
Alex and Kimberly began chatting the same night.
“I asked him what he was looking for, and he asked me the same question, and I told him that I was hoping to find my special someone,” she recalls, “and he responded with “I love that.” Little did she know what she was getting herself into...
She Liked Him
The pair exchanged numbers and chatted the whole night. Alex seemed like a great guy, and Kimberly was hoping he would ask her out.
The next morning, Kimberly woke up to a Whatsapp message from Alex.
She Thought It Was Strange
Kimberly thought it was strange.
“He sent me a message on Whatsapp, and I asked him why he was messaging me on there instead of just sending a regular text,” she explained, “…and he just changed the subject.”
She Searched For Him On Facebook
Kimberly logged in on Facebook and searched for Alex's profile. She wanted to know more about him, so she opened his profile, preparing to send a friend request.
But what she saw on his timeline shook her to the core.
He Was Engaged
“I thought I’d take a look, and the first thing I noticed was that it said he was in a relationship,” Kimberly said in an interview.
“Hoping it was old, I clicked on her profile, and the first post was an engagement announcement from exactly one month ago.” Kimberly was furious and decided to take the matter into her own hands.
She Wanted To Make Him Pay
He had been lying to her this entire time. Kimberly wanted to make him pay for this.
“My first emotion was just complete shock, I could not believe it – I was just flabbergasted,” she said.
She Was In Shock
"I wasn't seriously emotionally invested yet, but I was angry on her behalf that he would do this to her," she continued.
Kimberly messaged him, saying, "Yo. Facebook just suggested you as my friend. You just got engaged?!"
He Denied The Accusation
"Wrong person, honey," Alex replied. He was denying the accusation and even told Kimberly that the Facebook account wasn't his.
“I looked again at his Facebook pictures and compared a tattoo on his arm to the pictures on his Tinder profile, and it was the exact same tattoo…” she recalls.
She Messaged His Fiancé
Kimberly decided to message his fiancé and tell her everything. “I just felt if the tables were turned, I would want her to tell me. I feel women have to support women in these situations – we have to have each other’s backs,” she said.
“My whole body was shaking when I was sending these messages because I didn’t know how she was going to react,” she continued. “I felt so awful and partially responsible that I could potentially be breaking this woman’s heart.”
She Blocked Him Everywhere
Kimberly ended her Facebook message with: "...do what you will with this information, I would want to know if it was me."
“It’s ok, it’s not your fault, thanks,” the woman responded. Kimberly blocked Alex everywhere and unmatched him on Tinder. “I was afraid that there would be some sort of backlash – I didn’t want to be harassed by him."
She Was Shocked By Her Response
“Her response was so calm and minimal that I don’t know if she was in shock, or maybe this was something that had happened before, and she wasn’t really surprised by it,” said Kimberly.
“I’m afraid that she has decided to forgive him, but that’s her choice if that’s what she wanted to do.”
