This Woman Almost Missed A $3 Million Lottery Prize

Junk Mail

In an email inbox, the spam folder may be a shady place, full of letters promising unlimited riches that are tragically too good to be true.

However, as one American woman discovered, combing through your junk mail now and then can pay off.

Lottery Jackpot

Laura Spears got an email sent to her spam folder informing her that she had won a lottery jackpot, which could have easily gotten unread and deleted.

The woman came very close to missing out on a very big lottery prize.

Buying A Lottery Ticket

The 55-year-old woman from Oakland County, Michigan, had seen an ad on Facebook that the Mega Millions jackpot was getting pretty popular.

So she made an account in the jackpot and bought a ticket.

Multiplying The Winning

She purchased a $1 million Michigan Lottery ticket.

She then further upgraded the lottery to the $3 million "Megaplier" ticket for an additional $1.

Missing Email

A few days later, the woman was looking for a missed email from someone, but she couldn't find any correspondings from Megaplier.

But she didn't find any such mail, thinking she might not have won anything. But she was so wrong.

Found In The Spam

But she didn't want to give yet. Something made her search her junk folder in her email account.

And there it was, the mail from Mega Millions lying in the spam folder.

The Lottery Numbers

She clicked open the mail and matched the five numbers with the ones on her lottery.

She couldn't believe her eyes.

The Number Matched!

The numbers matched. Every single one. She had won the $1 million lottery. But that was the only case.

She remembered upgrading the lottery ticket by paying an extra $1. Which meant that the sum was much more significant.

The Shock

The additional $1 upgrade multiplied the lottery sum by 3 times, which meant she had actually won a whopping $3 million in the lottery.

She still couldn't believe she had won the prize. So she logged in to her lottery account.

Confirmation

And yes, she had actually won the prize. Her lottery account confirmed it.

She was really shocked. A $3 million amount is not small by any means.

Future Plans

Days after that, she went to the headquarters belonging to the lottery and claimed the winnings.

She plans to share the money with her family and retire early.

Surprise Of A Lifetime

Michigan Lottery tweeted, “Laura Spears got the surprise of a lifetime when she checked her spam folder and realized she’d won a $3 million Mega Millions prize!”

It truly was a surprise of a lifetime!

Previous Lottery Winner

In 2021, another family from Lake Havasu City, Ariz, won the Mega Millions jackpot of $108 million.

Presently, the jackpot is $376 million.

Always Check Your Spams

Ms. Spears stated that she would check her spam folder more frequently.

She further added, "I definitely added the Michigan Lottery to my safe senders' list just in case I ever get lucky enough to receive another email about a huge prize."

Will you?

This was an unbelievable story similar to finding hidden treasure.

If you receive such a mail in your spam, will you click on it or leave it unread?
