Finished
A guy bought a 1969 “canned ham” camper trailer for $900 and set about to remodel it with a friend. Once he got going, it turned out he had to replace nearly everything.
What he did and how it turned out are truly amazing. This camper is a beauty!
Here’s the finished camper. But you won’t believe how they got here, and how it looks inside.
Start-Up
This is what the camper looked like at the start of the project, after just removing the windows.
Kitchen - Before
Here’s what the kitchen looked like “before.” It didn’t look that bad, until they got to work.
Humble Beginnings
They set up their shop to get to work.
Unexpected Damage
Oh, snap! Once they got going, they realized that the camper had a ton of water damage.
From Ground Up?
Which meant they would have to rebuild a lot of it…or almost all of it.
Prototype Status
They would use the original as the “template,” and make new panels the same size out of ¾ plywood with a ¼ birch plywood finish, laminated together.
Wheel
They started by rebuilding the wheel well by tracing the original and then copying it with new galvanized sheet metal and pop rivets.
Side Panels
Then they moved on to the side panels. They would later make panels the exact same size as the old ones.
Camper
Working around the camper, they kept at it.
All The Work And No Play
Oh boy, this is a lot of work.
Full Rework
Basically every piece of the old camper would be rebuilt.
Bye Kitchen
Original Ideas Aside
And they tore out the old kitchen
Originally they thought they’d just replace a little bit of floor but that wasn’t going to cut it, so they ended up ripping it all out.
Floor
And the floor is gone. The selected decision is clear.
Evolution
They needed something new.
Next they would sandblast, prime with epoxy and then paint with enamel.
Fresh Touches
And add a rubberized undercoat.
Plywood
They made a new kitchen floor pan with treated plywood, and installed it.
