As an ode to Beyoncé, the scientist settled on Scaptia (Plinthina) beyoncea for the horsefly's official moniker. With its golden backside and abdomen, the fly is known colloquially as the "gold bum fly," so it's only fitting that the fly's scientific name honors the "Bootylicious" singer.
