Katie was having a horrible morning. She had just found out that her crush didn't like back. To make matters even worse, not a single guy at her school asked her to prom.
As she sat in the cafeteria, she heard a familiar voice speak through the loudspeaker. “Let’s start this Friday morning announcement off with a little bit of fun…” Then, she heard her name.
Rejected
After Katie Kelzenberg was rejected by her crush, she wondered if it was even worth going to prom at all.
Almost all of her classmates had already paired up, and she didn't want to go alone. But then, she came up with an idea.
"The Rock"
Everyone in her class knew that Katie was Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson superfan. She had rewatched the action blockbuster "Skyscraper" countless times.
If she couldn't go to prom with her crush, Katie figured that she might as well ask her favorite actor to go with her. But how could she do it?
The Plan
Katie needed to get the superstar's attention, and she was willing to do whatever it took to make Dwayne her prom date.
She decided to post a video online in hopes of Dwayne seeing it. So she made a giant sign and put on her black sweater, blue jeans, silver chain, and her favorite moon bag. But was this video enough for Dwayne to notice her?
Viral
To Katie's surprise, her post went viral almost instantly. One person wrote: "Hey, you took a shot. Good for you. Someone will be honored to take you. Have a great time!"
Katie waited to see if Dwayne would contact her, but she didn't really have any expectations. Then, after a week, something amazing happened.
The Day Of
It was an ordinary Monday morning when Katie heard a familiar voice speak through the loudspeaker.
“Alright. Let’s start this Friday morning announcement off with a little bit of fun and a little bit of excitement,” the man said.
In Shock
“Good morning to the Stillwater Area high school students.” Katie knew that voice very well. She was in complete shock.
Her eyes widened in disbelief. Was she dreaming?
Dwayne Johnson
“This is, as you might have guessed by now, Dwayne Johnson,” the voice continued. Katie held her hands over her mouth as she listened to her favorite actor speak.
Did this mean he accepted her proposal?
Offer Declined
Then, Dwayne addressed Katie directly. He thanked her for inviting him to her prom but declined politely as he wouldn't be in the country on the night of the prom. He would be in Hawaii shooting his new movie.
However, he had prepared another surprise for her.
Private Cinema
“However, Katie… because we are now best friends, and because I have so much love for you,” Dwayne continued.
“… as a very special gift, I have rented out a theatre tomorrow… And I’m showing you a screening of my new movie, Rampage. I rented out 232 seats!”
In Shock
Dwayne added that the drinks and popcorn were on him. “I just can’t, like, really believe that it’s happening because not in my wildest dreams could I imagine this happening, but here I am,” Katie said in an interview.
She couldn't have asked for a better surprise!
Time Of Her Life
Katie went to prom with her best friends and had a great time. She didn't need to go with a boy after all!
Katie later posted a photo of the poster made for Dwayne. “You may be wondering: “why go to prom with her?” she said in her promposal.
Biggest Fan
"Well, let me tell you why. I am the biggest Dwayne Johnson fan. I love all of your movies."
"I even dressed up as you for Halloween. And I have the biggest Dwayne Johnson merch collection!" she continued. "So, Dwayne… will you rock it at prom with me?"
The Reason
After Dwayne revealed his surprise to Katie, he posted why he did it on Twitter.
"I was so impressed by this young lady's charm and confidence to even ask me (ladies always get shy in front of me) that I had to do something special," he wrote.
