Teacher Disapproves Of Boy Adopted By Two Dads, Regrets It

This substitute teacher has been fired from an unnamed school in Utah after making several disgusting comments about an 11-year-old boy's home life. A gay couple adopted the boy, and it bothered his teacher.

What had happened?

Grateful

It all started when the boy said he was grateful for his two fathers and the fact they chose to adopt him. His teacher, however, openly embarrassed him in front of all his classmates.

The teacher didn't believe gay couples should be allowed to adopt children.

In The Process

Professional ballroom choreographer and dancer Louis van Amstel and his partner were in the process of adopting the 11-year-old and couldn't wait to finally make it official.

Everyone was happy for them, except for the boy's substitute teacher.

Not Happy

The woman told the 11-year-old that having two dads was nothing to be proud of, and he should be ashamed.

What was her problem?

A Sin

“Why on Earth would you be happy about that?” the substitute teacher lashed out. “That’s nothing to be thankful for.”

The woman then told the class that “homosexuality is wrong” and “two men living together is a sin.” But she had no idea what awaited her.

Afraid

The 11-year-old was so ashamed that he nearly cried. He later told his adoptive parents that he didn't want to tell them about the incident at first because he was afraid that they would change their minds about adopting him.

Especially since he had a rough childhood and two failed adoptions in the past.

Speaking Up

The boy sat in class red-faced with shame, but he would soon learn he wasn't alone. Three of his classmates stood up and told the substitute teacher to stop shaming the boy and that they believed her behavior was unacceptable.

The three girls then walked out of the classroom and straight to the principal's office.

Not Giving Up

They immediately notified the principal of the incident, who then went to the classroom to have a chat with the teacher.

The school staff had to physically remove the woman from the class and escort her out of the school. Apparently, she didn't stop arguing her case the entire time.

Informed

No argument, however, could save her from being fired. The school staff immediately called Van Amstel to inform him of the incident at his adoptive son's school.

The man immediately posted the story online. He thanked the principal for their actions and told the staff what the 11-year-old had told them of his fears.

The End Of Her Career

Not only did the school staff remove the substitute teacher off the premises, but they also ensured that she would never be a teacher again.

They also contacted the staffing company through which she was hired and told them what had happened.

Personal Issue

"The school took appropriate action that day based upon their investigation," a spokesperson of the school said.

The school refused to comment further as they believed it was a personal issue that should stay private.

The Agency's Comment

The staffing agency also commented on the situation: “We are concerned about any reports of inappropriate conduct and take these matters very seriously.”

“We conducted an investigation and made the decision to end the employee’s relationship with Kelly Services.”

Thanks

Van Amstel contacted the parents of the three girls who stood up for his adoptive son and arranged a meeting.

He thanked them for raising brave, kind young women who aren't afraid to stand up for a child being bullied by an adult.

Twitter Rant

Louis van Amstel took it to Twitter to express his anger with the substitute teacher. "Three female students asked the teacher to stop multiple times, and when she didn't, they walked to the principal's office to report her," he wrote.

She was ultimately escorted from the building, and as this unfolded, she continued to argue her point."

Disgusted

"She also tried to blame our son and told him that it was his fault that she went off. It's absolutely ridiculous and horrible what she did," he continued.

"We were livid. It's 2019, and this is a public school. I'm truly disgusted that the bully in this situation is a teacher in a public school.#equalrights #allfamilies #allfamiliesmatter."
