When Steve Harvey tied the knot with Marjorie Bridges, he went from being a doting father of four to a dad of seven kids. Stepping into the stepfather’s shoes was a daunting task.
Steve Harvey is known as one of the most famous comedians and hosts in America.
His fame and influence gave him the whooping value of $100 million. But, he still remains humble and unassuming in his ways.
Born in West Virginia on January 15, 1957, Harvey’s father was a coal miner. His simple beginnings and his family’s way of living have helped him recognize the value of hard work.
Before he stumbled his way into show business, he had a string of jobs as a mailman, carpet cleaner and boxer.
Harvey’s early days as a stand-up comic was pretty rough. He was homeless and stayed in his car, travelling from one gig to another.
But, his golden ticket to stardom came when he became a finalist at the Second Annual Johnnie Walker National Comedy Search in 1990. His stint in the contest snagged him the hosting job on the late-night show Showtime at the Apollo.
Harvey didn’t stop making waves in the comedy arena. He also got into acting jobs and starred in television shows such as Me and the Boys and The Steve Harvey Show.
His self-titled program lasted until 2002. By 2010, he became the host of the famous game show Family Feud. This program was touted as the second most-viewed daytime show for two years.
Harvey has also starred in his own self-titled programs such as Steve Harvey which had a good run of 5 years from 2012 to 2016 and Steve which was shown the next year.
These programs showcase Harvey’s unique and disarming brand of humor as well as celebrity and human interest stories.
But, there’s one highlight in Harvey’s TV career that happened in a 2015 episode of the Steve Harvey show. Being married to Marjorie Bridges, the couple share seven children.
This blended family guested in one of his show’s episodes. And, this guesting took a dramatic turn for the host.
Harvey has his own kids, two daughters Karli and Brandi from his first marriage with Marcia Harvey and his two sons, Wynton and Broderick with Mary Shackelford, his second wife.
Whereas, Marjorie has three kids, Lori, Jason and Morgan from a previous union.
Harvey’s marriage with Marjorie has been going great, with Harvey exclaiming in a 2016 People magazine interview that, “It was like being reborn.”
He also added, “I messed up so many times in my life. [Marjorie] made all the difference. When you’re happy at home, you can make a lot of things happen.” Harvey has truly found his soulmate in Marjorie.
And even if the couple seems to have succeeded in bringing the two families together, doing it hasn’t been an easy feat.
Harvey mentioned in his 2016 People interview that he’d give a stern warning to his kids, “Look, you don’t like it? Deal with it. I don’t need y’alls permission.”
With no choice on the matter, the seven kids has to live with the fact that this is their new, blended family.
But, Jason, one of Marjorie’s son has bottled up some intense feelings about Harvey which will be revealed in his own stepfather’s show.
The entire family surprised the host during his birthday with their guesting on the Steve Harvey show.
They shared some touching stories about Harvey in his different life roles as a husband, dad and stepdad.
Harvey’s daughter, Karli mentioned this one Christmas when she and Brandi was allowed to ride their bikes around the dining area.
Harvey’s son, Broderick remembered how his father gave him his first cigar. Whilst, Marjorie’s daughter, Morgan gushed how Harvey had given her away at her wedding.
But, one of Harvey’s sons gave the most emotional speech during that 2015 episode. Jason spoke and his words touched everyone in the audience.
He said, “You took my mother, but you gained a whole lot more with that.” And to Jason, his stepfather gained more children and took this chance to love all of them as his own flesh and blood.
Jason continued this heartwarming words for Harvey, saying, “You gave me your last name, and that’s the unthinkable.”
He also muttered, “My father, you know, he did what he could, but he wasn’t there. And you stepped in, and you gave me that.” The audience was moved with this grand display of affection of Jason for his stepdad, Harvey.
Harvey was listening intently to Jason’s words the whole time and he got so emotional, tears started welling up in his eyes.
With lips quivering, he’s trying to keep his composure while hearing this heartfelt speech.But Jason is not yet done with the stirring tribute to the host.
Wrapping up his words of gratitude to Harvey, Jason added, “If only you knew the true amount of love that I have for you… I need for you to know that now.”
He ended his tribute with this simple but loving sentence, “It don’t get no better than you, Dad. You it” The audience can’t help but applaud and celebrate this inspiring love between a stepdad and his stepson.
Observing how Harvey reacted to Jason and all of his kids’ amazing compliments, it shows how great a father Harvey is.
However, he also wanted to say his piece on how much he values his family so much.
Composing himself after being overwhelmed with heartwarming praises from his kids, Harvey said, “I ain’t working for me. I’m working for them.
I’ve got four full-time jobs for them.” And looking over to his children, he exclaimed, “When I’m done, I want you all to have remembered that somebody cared more about you than himself. And I want you to care more about someone else than yourself.”
With Harvey beaming with so much love and pride, he added, “I will defend your honor till I die. I love all of you. This is what it is for me.
This is the greatest moment I’ve ever had. I’m very proud to be your father.”
So, behind those glitz and glamour that Steve Harvey is immersed in, what he really values the most in life is his wife and children.
He may be one of the most well-loved celebrities in America but entertainment isn’t his top priority full-time job. His number job is being a father to his amazing children, which makes him more fulfilled and valued than all the fame and fortune ever could.
Moreover, Harvey is proud of showing off their family dynamic to the adoring public. His entire family actually appeared on a 2017 Family Feud special episode.
In this instance, it was obvious that Jason got his stepdad’s sense of humor. There’s one part in the episode where Harvey asked Jason to “name a part of a woman that moves when she walks in a sexy way.” And Jason’s reaction didn’t disappoint. Jason’s wittingly said that his answer is “cellulite”, drawing laughter from the audience. And he was quick to add, “But there’s nothing wrong with cellulite.” just in case someone took offense at this smart remark.
In real-life, though, Harvey has been consistent in boasting how great his family is.
He shares and celebrates the achievements of his children either through his television shows or social media.
And, Steve Harvey’s wonderful family is growing with Ezra, the youngest member of their clan.
Ezra, Jason’s third child with his model wife, Amanda was born last September 2018. And his coming into this world made Harvey and Marjorie proud grandparents of five.
Jason and Amanda got married last 2013 during Jason’s 22nd birthday. Five years later, Amanda paid a tribute to her 27 year old husband.
She posted in Instagram, “27 years ago today, you were born. Five years ago today, we eloped in a hot air balloon.”
Amanda continued her tribute for her loving partner, “On this day, I thank God for creating you just for me and for forever joining us together in his name.
You are the greatest gift I have ever received and the best choice I have ever made. I will continue to cherish and love you for the rest of my days. Thank you for loving me like no one else can. Your love has made my life a fairytale.”
She described her life with Jason as a fairytale, first blessed with their daughter, Rose.
She was born in June 2014. And after a year, another bundle of joy, Noah came into their lives. And in September 2018, their little one Ezra was born.
Jason and Amanda’s family had a taste of celebrity life too, walking the runway at Milan Fashion Week in 2017.
The couple with their kids, Rose and Noah opened the Dolce & Gabbana show and the group looked so amazing on the catwalk.
Immediately after the show, Amanda gladly shared two wonderful catwalk shots to their family’s followers on Instagram.
The family was wearing feline-inspired clothes, embellished with prints of cute kitties and leopard spots.
Amanda gushed on her Instagram post, “I am beyond honored for my family and I to have opened your show @dolcegabbana! We are forever grateful! Thank you @stefanogabbana and #Domenico! We love you!”
And she also wrote in another post, “[I’m] beyond blessed to have shared this beautiful moment with my family.” Amanda was overwhelmed with so much happiness with sharing this glamorous experience with her family.
But what’s amazing with the Dolce & Gabbana show was the other Harveys were also part of the model squad.
Jason’s younger sister, Lori and their mother, Marjorie also strutted in the catwalk. And they also posted their family event on Instagram.
Showing a picture of herself as a Dolce & Gabbana runway model, Lori posted on Instagram,“Third time’s a charm. Thank you so much @stefanogabbana and Domenico and the whole @dolcegabbana [team].
So honored to be a part of such an amazing show and to have walked alongside my mom, brother, sister-in-law, niece and nephew! Forever grateful #blessed.”
The beautiful grandmother, Marjorie also shared a lovely picture of her with Jason and Rose, showing their A-game as models.
With the picture, she pointed out how her granddaughter got her poise and charm. She said, “Serve face, baby Rose. It’s in her DNA.”
Obviously, the Harvey family loves fashion so much, with Marjorie as a fashion blogger and Amanda and Lori doing modeling jobs.
Also, Jason owns the luxury shoe brand, Yevrah. This shoe line features unique designs made in Brazil and stands out from the market as cutting-edge fashion.
Actually, Jason guested on Harvey’s show back in 2015 to promote his shoe brand, Yevrah.And, he shared to Harvey that this shoe business taught him countless things.
He surmised, “I didn’t understand, really, the anatomy of the foot – how it really works, you know,”
Jason attributed his success to his family’s constant show of support.
Harvey even remarked, “I think your mother and your sisters kind of helped you a little bit, Because he was making these models and, you know, Marjorie and the girls [were] going, ‘Okay, Jason, but I have to stand up in this… and I want to be able to still have a back when all of this is done.’”
Jason also shared a nice twist with how he came up with his shoe brand name. He revealed that the unique brand name Yevrah has an interesting origin.
Jason explained, “The truth about the name is it’s only Harvey spelled backwards. So it’s keeping it in the family, of course.”
But, Jason’s dreams didn’t end with shoes. He announced in December 2018 that he’ll create his own children’s show titled Grans on YouTube.
The show is said to be about a grandmother’s home that has a magical trunk. Both Harvey and Marjorie guested on the show which display their support to their son’s latest venture.
Jason has attained so much in his young life, from a fashion empire to his great family. And Harvey is all smiles with Jason’s various successes in his chosen field. In fact, the host wrote on Instagram, “Happy birthday, second-oldest son, Jason Harvey. I’m proud of you, son.”
This was posted on Jason’s 27th birthday in August 2018. Everyone is in awe with this beautiful and inspiring father-son relationship, proving that family is more than blood. It all boils down to pure and genuine love.
