Smartest Animals In The World

Clever, Aren't They?

From primates to reptiles, to man's best friend, some animals show stunning intellect where we'd least expect it. Ever heard of a gorilla being fluent in sign language? Well, you will soon!

Humankind has always believed our intelligence is unrivaled. But animals keep emerging with a staggering intellect that makes us question what we previously thought about them. Keep reading to learn about some exceptional animals that are way smarter than we give them credit for.

Raccoons

Whether you think raccoons are cute and cuddly or you think they're worse than rats. You can't deny that they have a high intellect.

Raccoon IQ is a lot higher than you'd think. When compared to other animals the species scored just below monkeys but above cats. This makes them one of the most intelligent mammals out there.

Taking Care Of Business

Now we know, we can't prove that this photo is real. It may very well be a comedic photo and the dog doesn't really take care of his own business. But just imagine that this photo could be real! We can't disprove it either.

Can you imagine how easy cleanup would be? You'd never have to worry about stepping in some doggy business again!

Puppies

Here's a puppy that's either seen a piece of string and decided to play tug-of-war with it. Or it's being a really good wingman to whoever the owner is.

If the owner really has trained their pup to do this then it would be smarter than we gave it credit for. The owner's mindset is that dog's can't commit crimes so he'll be doing nothing wrong.

Koko The Gorilla

Koko the gorilla was an exceptional gorilla that showed us just how clever gorillas actually are. In her month life she learned to be fluent in sign language, watched her favorite TV shows, and even recognized Robin Williams when he came to visit her!

The world does seem a little sadder with her gone, but what she did proves that some animals might surpass our expectations if we give them a chance.

King Cobras

People that think King Cobras are just like any snake are dead wrong. The biggest difference may just be their hood but trust us, there's a lot more to this snake than you'd initially think.

King Cobras are considered the smartest snake in the world. There are a few reasons for that. The species are the only ones to recognize their handlers. They also know where their territory starts and stops and will defend it with their lives. The female King Cobra is the only snake species to build a nest, they takes leaves and sticks and shape them into a place that they can lay their eggs.

Deers

With hunting being an age-old tradition deers have started to adapt and try to get away from the sport. You'll start spotting more and more deers on the edge of suburban areas as they know which spots in the woods hunters like to frequent.

Deers actually remember bad experiences and will learn from them to better adapt. So maybe in a few more years, we'll start to see deers outsmarting the hunters.

The "TED" Talk

We've already spoken about Koko the gorilla and how intelligent she was. With that already proven, here's a gorilla taking a more lighthearted approach to intelligence - comedy.

This gorilla lives in the Los Angeles Zoo and decided to come out on a sunny day and give a mock lecture to the guests gathered around his enclosure. Looks like everyone there is hanging on his every word.

Kleptomani-cat

Here's a cat with a problem, he loves money. But his method of getting it is far from moral. He may as well be a cat burgler.

His name is Sir-Whines-Alot and whenever a stranger puts a note through the glass door at this rescue, he snatches it from them. What started out as an accident has ended up being a good method of getting charitable donations.

Dogs

Here's a beagle who knows how to help out the family and secure his title as "man's best friend." You see, the parent's child woke up in the middle of the night and started crying, you'd think mom or dad are the ones to come and help? Wrong.

So instead of the parents showing up it's the beagle coming to the baby's rescue. The baby is in a swing crib so the dog places his paw on the crib and gently starts swinging it. This soothes the baby and helps them fall back asleep. Now that's one clever beagle!
