We have done quite a bit of investigating but Earth is so big that we haven't really scratched the surface (pun intended) of what's out there. The bottom of the ocean, seas, lakes, and other bodies of water are where history goes to rest. When one wants to get rid of something, throwing it into a deep body of water is a good way to rid yourself of it.

We aren't talking just criminal activity here, we're referring to if someone (or something) wants to hide or protect something, a good spot to do so is in deep water. Many legends have spoken about hidden objects that found their home in the water, and this time it didn't stay at the bottom.

71% of Earth is covered by bodies of water. We have explored for many years yet we still have approximately 65% of the world to explore. It isn't easy to explore the deep blue seas, just like it isn't easy to explore the massive amount of outer space that surrounds us.

However, we humans are curious beings and are making every attempt to know our history and world. We hear stories throughout history, legends and myths among them. So what do we do? We go about exploring to see if they are true or not. This time we need to go diving... 

This Find

It was back in August of 2017 that a team of researchers started on a new exploration. They came to Lake Ontario, Canada to explore a possible piece of history that was allegedly said to be at the bottom of the famous lake.

If found, the world's attention would be on Lake Ontario and this team. It is not an easy object to find, should it really be at the bottom of the lake, and even if they did find it, it would be even harder to bring it up. But the hardship would be quickly forgotten should they recover this artifact. 

Who's the Boss?

So who is the team that is going to take responsibility for this dive? That would be OEX Recovery Group Incorporated. Recovering items is this company's specialty. Together with the Canadian financial and mining departments, they recover artifacts and other debris from Lake Ontario.

Rumors that something much more important lies at the bottom of the lake got to the ears of the company, OEX. Once they heard the incredible story, they decided to get to work and build a team to find and recover this artifact. They wanted to bring the truth to light. 

Mission Raise the Arrow

The treasure they heard about is so special, valuable, and important that they knew they needed to find it fast. The mission, dubbed Raise the Arrow, was created with the only goal of bringing this item to the surface.

This would be the discovery of the century should OEX succeed. They were excited to be a part of this operation and knew that being a part of it would make their name that much more respected and famous. 

Chancing It

The goal of this mission was a simple one. The research team would dive to the bed of the lake where they think that the object is most likely located. However, it was risky as the object may be too hidden to find or might be too stuck to move. There's also a chance that it won't be there.

A project like this one is expensive. The mission was funded but that also meant that there was a lot of pressure to succeed. OEX and the companies that worked with it were gambling on some risky odds. Would they see the object surfaced?

Diving Down

The team took their boat out to the spot where they were going to dive. The water was calm and clear for their dive. The could see the fish swimming below the surface. It seemed as though the water itself was waiting with bated breath to see if they were going to be successful.

The team was also nervous to dive and see what was down at the bottom. They knew that there was a chance that they were about to make the discovery that would change their lives forever. 

Keeping It A Secret

In order to keep the public from raising its expectations and getting excited before there was reason to, the team kept the possible discovery secret. There was still a chance that this was all going to come up empty.

The secrecy was exciting to the team, knowing that they were on the cusp of something history changing. However, they could not begin to imagine what it could possibly be.

So what is this possible thing? What we know is this - over 60 years ago, in the 1950s, local journalists said that they saw something in the lake. However, as soon as they saw it, it disappeared.

It has been over 60 years now since the this happened and it was such a fast sighting to begin with. So what did the people around Lake Ontario see that had them baffled? 

A Weird Sighting

The sighting took place and was over in a quick moment. There was not enough time to even register what they could have possibly seen. It was too quick and blurry for a conclusive description.

While it may have been fast, it was enough to leave a serious impression on the viewers. They could not shake off what they saw and replayed it over and over again over the years. The people wanted this found as much as the OEX team did.

The OEX team was now there to see if what they thought they saw was a real moment or just legend. Operation Raise the Arrow was going to bring closure to locals one way or another.

The locals were excited to tell the team their encounters and describe it all to them since they remember it like it was yesterday. Whatever it was that they saw, they all agreed that it was unlike anything else and couldn't explain it well as it was so strange. 

The Spot

The locals who saw this occurrence, took the team to where they all saw it happen. They were at the edge of the lake and showed the researchers the area, about one mile from the shore, of where it all took place.

This was where the adventure begins! They had every piece of equipment ready, excited divers, and all of the history that the place held at their fingertips. It was time for the dive to begin. 

Point Petre

The team was gong to start at Point Petre. This spot was on the northeastern part of the lake. It is in Prince Edward County and considered a very beautiful area. Point Petre is a conservation area for wildlife as well.

The spot is popular with tourists and does not have many urban spaces around it due to the conservation area. There are stunning beaches, rock cliffs, and limestone formations to excite any outdoorsman.

Lakes have always had a tendency to attract myths about them and inside them. Loch Ness is the perfect example. The Scottish lake is one of the deepest in the country and is home to a legendary monster.

Location, Location, Location

Lake Ontario was created from the Wisconsin ice sheet that melted during the last ice age. There was a time that the lake was a bay on the Atlantic ocean. There are dry beaches and banks that are located up to 25 miles from where the shores are today, showing that the changes to the lake have been happening for over 1,000 years.

With glaciers melting and Earth's plates moving around, the land tends to rise and fall ever so slightly. The residents of the southern shores of the lake lose inches of land to the water every on and off. 

Deep Water

The lake is surrounded by 634 miles of land. There is also another 78 miles of shore that come from the islands around. The deepest part of Lake Ontario is 133 fathoms, or 798 feet. It is so deep that there is no way that it freezes entirely during winter, which happens to all surrounding lakes.

The Niagara river and falls feed into Lake Ontario, along with 9 other rivers. The enormous depth to this lake make it a treasure chest for many artifacts and lost items, items that OEX is on the hunt to find. 

The Land

On the Canadian side of Lake Ontario is the city of Toronto. On the United States side is the city of Rochester, New York. A lot of the lake's shores, however, are large wetlands that see a lot of animals and vegetation.

The area surrounding the lake that is wetlands is now officially protected areas due to the deforestation and pollution that started showing its effects in the area. 

The Thunderfish

The team was about to dive into a lake that was several thousands of years old, and held almost 400 cubic miles of dark, deep water. This was a mammoth of a task and so the team had a serious task ahead of them. Luckily, they were not going to be going in without help.

The Thunderfish is an automatic underwater tool, a mini submarine if you will, that scans the water with a camera and sonar. It will be able to report back to the team with shots from within the water.
