The scientists have warned that a 'climate emergency' is currently happening around the world. The report itself is not a positive one, but it also notes that the subject of climate change is becoming more urgent among experts, and they are starting to come up with some possible solutions. The report was published on November 5, 2019 and is titled "World Scientists' Warning of a Climate Emergency". The report states that "policymakers and the public now urgently need access to a set of indicators that convey the effects of human activities" on the topic of climate change. The report also provides a visual explanation of the climate change issue in the form of graphs. The information for the graphs and report were "collected for at least the last 5 years, and updated at least annually," the report states. The warning from the report continues as follows: "Scientists have a moral obligation to clearly warn humanity of any catastrophic threat and to 'tell it like it is.' On the basis of this obligation and the graphical indicators presented below, we declare, with more than 11,000 scientist signatories from around the world, clearly and unequivocally that planet Earth is facing a climate emergency." However, this is much more than a warning. The report is meant to be a call to action as it provides several policy objectives that they recommend the public take on. Some of these objectives include honing in on human rights issues, fossil fuel replacement practices, reduction on methane, added protection of forests and marine life, as well as a shift by the public to a more plant-based diet, to name a few. The report is indeed a dark one, especially when the use of the word 'emergency' is right there, but there is a silver lining and it comes in the form of possible solutions. The report writes: "The good news is that such transformative change, with social and economic justice for all, promises far greater human well-being than does business as usual.
