Chy-Niece Thacker was nervous. She had never been in trouble with the law before. She was just minding her business when she suddenly got pulled over by an angry cop.
But this police officer had a valid reason for pulling her over. He knew what she was hiding in her trunk.
Pulled Over
When Chy-Niece heard the police siren, she had no choice but to pull over. She watched Officer Jenkins slowly making his way towards her car as she prepared to show him her driver's license.
“Did I miss a red light? Was I going too fast?” Chy-Niece asked the officers. She couldn't afford a ticket.
"Don't Worry"
“So this happened just now. I get pulled, and both brake lights decided to go out this time. As he walked to the car and I was pulling out my stuff, he quickly said… ‘Don’t worry about pulling anything out,'" Chy-Niece later explained.
"I just want you to know your brake lights are out." Chy-Niece couldn't believe her ears. Was she hearing this right?
"Pop the trunk"
Then Officer Jenkins pulled out a flashlight. “So I’m immediately upset because I just got them replaced last month. So I explained to him how Firestone wants to charge me $600 just to run a test on the wiring of the car,” Chy-Niece explained.
But instead of giving her a ticket, the officer told her to "pop the trunk."
Worried
As he inspected her trunk, he called her name. Chy-Niece prepared for the worst. Had he changed his mind? Was he going to issue her a ticket?
But Officer Jenkins had another idea in mind.
Assistance
“He checked the lights in the trunk and tapped them, but they didn’t come on," Chy-Niece continued.
"So, he told me to pop the hood to check the relay box then asked me to get out to check the other one."
He Fixed Her Lights
Officer Jenkins managed to fix her lights! Chy-Niece was over the moon. Not only did she not get a ticket, but the kind officer also fixed her lights.
She quickly sent a text to her mother, informing her that she had been pulled over. A few minutes later, her phone began to ring. It was her mother.
Worry
“Are you okay? Did he hurt you? Do you need us to come get you?” her mother asked. She feared something bad had happened to her daughter.
“Mom, I’m fine. Everything is fine,” Chy-Niece calmly explained. Then, her mother burst into tears and hung up the phone. Why was she acting like this?
Fear
“I was just so worried,” her mother later explained. She feared that her daughter was in trouble with the law, so she panicked.
What if something had happened to her daughter? Fortunately, everything was fine.
The Truth
Chy-Niece later said she was terrified when she was pulled over. She had never spoken to a cop before.
Some of her friend's encounters with the police ended in trauma and tears. But her encounter with officer Jenkins was different. He showed her that not all cops are bad.
Viral
Chy-Niece posted two photos and shared a story of her encounter with Officer Jenkins on Facebook. Her post has received over 300,000 likes!
Having her post go viral was never her intention, though. She simply wanted to share a moment of humanity.
Act of Kindness
"We've seen so many stories where a traffic stop has turned into the death of an officer, and it's given people a bad taste in their mouth. I think this one officer helping can set a trend," she said.
"I'm just really honored he helped me out so much."
"Thank You"
It wasn't long before Henrico County Police noticed her Facebook post.
"Thank you, Chy-Niece Thacker for sharing this about one of our officers. We are proud of our officers, especially when we see citizens share things like this. Above and beyond the call of duty, Officer Jenkins. Service to our community is what it's all about," they wrote.
Surprise
“He could have easily given me a ticket, but Officer Jenkins stepped out of officer role and turned into a mechanic to make sure I was straight," Chy-Niece later added to her post.
So far, her post has gained over 500,000 likes and shares!
Safety First
Chy-Niece is very lucky that Officer Jenkins was the one who pulled her over. It didn't take him long to fix the lights, as he know what he was doing.
However, it's important to conduct regular vehicle inspections to avoid problems with the authorities. And of course, safety always come first.
