He Almost Fainted
When he first saw it, his heart started galloping. Was that him? How could that be possible? His head started hurting, he started feeling dizzy and had to sit down.
He could feel himself close to fainting right there on the spot. But then, a remote and mysterious scene started playing in his head. At first, he couldn’t tell if what he was experiencing was reality or dream. But then, everything started making sense.
Waking Up In The Hospital
He woke up in a hospital bed. The first thing he saw was a nurse standing beside the bed, staring at him in silence and with an expectant look.
Then, he lost consciousness again. He came back to his senses after a while, but the only thoughts in his head were questions that didn’t seem to have an answer. What was he doing there? Who were those people? And most importantly, who was he?
Amy
“Hey, so you’re finally awake! Good morning!” were the first words he heard. It was the nurse who said it right after he recovered consciousness. He wasn’t able to utter any response for some days.
But as time passed, he started being able to talk normally again. His first conversation was with the nurse, who was named Amy. She told him what had happened to him and how he had ended up in the hospital.
In A Coma For Months
Apparently, he had been in a coma for the last four months. He was in one of Chicago’s most prominent hospitals. He had been found unconscious in the middle of a lost field on the city’s outskirts months ago.
The doctors thought he would probably stay in a coma for the rest of his life and were ready to pull the plug on him at any moment. But why was that? Wasn’t there anybody who could have convinced them to keep him there and wait for him to come out of the coma?
No Visits, No ID
Apparently, no one had come to visit him at the hospital. Also, the doctors didn’t have a way to reach his relatives, as he didn’t have any form of identification with him when he was found by the police. He didn’t have any recollections or memories of no part of his life before he woke up either.
Not even the Chicago Police Department had been able to determine his identity after months of investigation, so he was cataloged as a John Doe. It seemed like he was alone in the world. He would have passed away, forgotten, and buried in a tomb with no name if it wasn’t for just one person.
Amy Was Always There
Amy had taken care of John and stood by his side the whole time. She was the one always begging the doctors to wait a few weeks more in case someone found out that man’s identity.
As she told him later, she had a gut feeling from the start: she knew that his destiny wasn’t passing away in a hospital bed, forgotten and lonely. She could feel that John was destined for something else, and this couldn’t be the end of his story. But that wasn’t all.
Attraction
After waking up from the coma, Amy was the only person John talked to on a regular basis. Soon enough, they became friends, and more intense feelings followed.
By the time John was healthy enough to get out of the hospital, he and Amy were dating. But would their unusual relationship remain free of trouble and disturbance?
Getting Back Into The World
Amy was happy to do her best to help John get back in the world and live a normal life again. However, there wasn’t much she could do to help him regain his identity or remember who he was before he lost consciousness. At least, that’s what she said.
So until the police found some information about who John really was, all he could do was start creating a life for himself, even if he felt like an empty canvas with no identity or memories. One day, Amy suggested something.
Plumbing
He suggested that John take up an internship as a plumber in a small company owned by one of her friends. “Work should help you regain a sense of belonging, keep you active and sharp, and make you get back into life somehow,” she said.
John listened to her. And soon enough, he found out that he had a natural talent for plumbing; also, he enjoyed proving to himself that he was able to do valuable things with his hands. He thrived in his newly found career for some months, enjoying every minute of it, until something happened one day.
An Abandoned Flat
One day, he and his team had to do a job in an apartment that had stayed empty for months. The owner hadn’t sold it or let anyone know where he was going, so all the neighbors had been wondering what the mystery behind it was.
However, that wasn’t John’s business. He was there just to do his job, fix the pipes, and go home. Or that’s what he thought until he saw the picture.
Was That Him?
John and his colleagues walked through the apartment’s door and stood in the living room while one of the neighbors explained the problem with the pipes. As John listened, he glanced around the room. It seemed like some very wealthy people used to live there.
And that’s when he saw a framed picture of himself on top of a shelf. Speechless, he took a closer look. The resemblance was identical. But could that be really him?
Painful Memories
His partners noticed that something was wrong. Feeling dizzy, John had to sit on one of the couches, while one of his coworkers brought him a glass of water and asked if he was alright.
Then, all the memories started playing in his head. He remembered everything. That was him in the picture. That was his house.
Henry Wallace
John suddenly remembered his actual name: he was Henry Wallace, a wealthy businessman married to a woman named Nicole. The night everything happened, he was coming back home from a business meeting, hoping to find some rest in his wife’s embrace after a long day.
But instead of that, he found something very different. His wife was lying in bed with Anthony, his personal chauffeur. As Henry opened the bedroom door, all hell broke loose.
Fight
Blinded with rage, Henry tried to attack Anthony. But the chauffeur fought back, and Henry received a strong concussion that nearly knocked him out.
After that, the unfaithful lovers got in one of his cars and dumped him in a field on the outskirts, thinking he was done. After that, they escaped to an unknown location, and no one heard of them again. But they underestimated Henry’s luck.
What Would He Do Now?
Quickly, Henry drove back to Amy’s flat to tell her everything about his story. Amy was amazed to hear this, but not really surprised. Deep in her heart, she knew Henry was destined to discover his real identity.
Then, she picked up the phone to call the police, but Henry stopped her. With a grin on his face, he called one of his friends, who was a private investigator. He wanted to take the matter into his own hands, and he had a plan for it. Now, he had a lot of work to do.
