Head First
The manhole was finally off, and Jason knew what he had to do. He felt responsible for the trapped animal since he had heard its cries the day before. He was motivated to help in any way he could.
With the manhole cover off, he jumped head first into the drain. But once he could see inside the drain, he couldn’t believe what he saw and how his life would be changed after this encounter.
Same Route Everyday
He woke up every morning and did the exact same thing. He would shower, get dressed, put the kettle on, and have his morning coffee. Then he’d grab the healthy lunch his wife packed him for work and head out the door.
He didn’t always like the seeded bread his wife gave him, but one day, he’d be thankful that he had it. It would change everything.

Jason Johanson was an ordinary man that lived quite an ordinary life. He lived in New York in a nice neighborhood. He even had a beautiful wife that always had a hot meal waiting when he got home from work.
Jason worked hard to provide for himself and his wife. He worked as a construction consultant, and his apartment was even close enough to work to walk to every day.
Loved His Job
Jason loved his job. He had worked his way to the top after 15 years of working in the industry. He was one of the best consultants, in his opinion, and he never had any trouble finding work.
Every day, he walked out the front door with a healthy packed lunch to walk the short 15 minutes to work. But one day would be very different from the others.
Started Like An Ordinary Day
Jason’s day started like any other. He got his healthy lunch and started his walk to work. He was walking for ten minutes, but there was something he noticed that would change everything at a moment’s notice.
He walked for ten minutes before noticing something strange. It was a noise that would send a shiver down his spine and make him feel like he was in a horror movie.
A Strange Sound
Jason had to walk past a manhole on the street to get to work every day. But on this day, he heard something alarming. There were noises coming from inside the sewer. At first, it made him jump to the side in alarm.
But with one look at the manhole and then a look at his watch, he knew he had to leg it to work to be one time. He decided to leave the mysterious sound in favor of his career. But he had no idea that he should have investigated further.
Heading Home From Work
After a productive day at work, Jason checked his watch and saw it was 6 PM. He left work and headed back home. Only what he had heard earlier wouldn’t be the last time he would hear it.
After walking for 5 minutes back to his house, he walked past the manhole in the dark. He didn’t notice it until he heard another desperate cry from inside. Now he knew that it was something serious. But he had no idea what he was getting into.
Thinking About It
Jason decided to head home. He couldn’t do anything to help in the dark. But he would prepare for the next morning, it was a Saturday, and he didn’t have to work. He thought about what he could do to help.
He even told his wife about it, who encouraged him to be a hero. He knew that he had to do something. He just had no idea how things would end.
The Next Day
Jason woke up the next morning and had made his decision. He was going to help in whatever way he could. He called some construction buddies of his and met them outside of the manhole.
They needed to first find out what they were dealing with. They brought some equipment that they knew could be vital. But Jason had no idea what he would be dealing with once they got there.
On The Scene
Jason stood with his buddies around the manhole. They used their first important tool, a crowbar that could open up the manhole. They could all hear the stifled cries from the day before.
They knew they had to be quick. Who knew how long the poor animal had been stuck in the sewer? But Jason would end up being a bit too quick on his feet.
Finally Off
The manhole was finally off, and Jason knew what he had to do. He felt responsible for the trapped animal since he had heard its cries the day before. He was motivated to help in any way he could.

A Parrot!
Jason heard a squawk from his left. He took a look down the drain and saw a parrot! It was what he was hearing the whole time. He was so relieved that it hadn’t stormed, or else the parrot would have been in trouble.
He reached down to try and coax the parrot, but it was reluctant and scared. But then an idea dawned on him. He remembered that he had yet another healthy lunch from his wife.
Seeded Bread
He asked one of his friends to pass him his lunch. It was a delicious-looking BLT sandwich on seeded bread. He tore off a large chunk of bread and offered it to the parrot.
It seemed to do the trick as the bird came a little closer. Jason tossed the chunk of bread in front of the parrot, and it gleefully consumed the food. He slowly tore more chunks of bread off of his sandwich and made a breadcrumb trail.
Making A Difference.
He spread some seeds on the platform he had made and extended ittoward the parrot. Without hesitation, the bird lept onto it, and Jason managed to maneuver it out of the drain. He couldn’t believe it worked.
Now above ground, the bird happily jumped into his arms. It was like night and day. And now Jason had a new companion to look after. He was beyond happy that he had made a difference in something’s life.
A New Life
Jason was thrilled to have rescued the little bird from the sewer. It seemed to trust him. He would get it checked by the vet and take care of it while it got better. But he had no idea how strong their bond would grow.
In the coming months, he would get so attached to the bird that he would decide to keep fostering him. Why stop a bad thing, after all?
