It had been a long night, and there was still no sign of Jimmy. "Where's my son? We're not going to stop looking until we find our son," the mother said, feeling her whole body trembling. It's already been five hours since her son went missing, and everyone except her was losing hope.
Was there even a chance to find her little kid? She felt desperate. Suddenly, she heard a scream. There was something in the bushes, and she just ran to the spot. What she saw there made her and the rest of the rescue group burst into tears.
A Gift
On one of his birthdays, Jimmy was given a gray puppy. It was a dream come true for the boy since he had been bugging his parents for one – finally, they gave in.
Although it wasn't his parents who got him the dog...it was his uncle. So when he saw his new furry friend rushing to meet him, he couldn't contain his joy and excitement. "Thank you so much, this is the best present ever," Jimmy told his uncle.
Man’s Best Friend
Jimmy and the dog were together almost all of the time, and it goes to show that dogs really are man’s best friend. This was apparent in the relationship between the pet and the pet owner.
His parents knew that it would be such a big responsibility, and the boy assured them that he could do it. After all, he had wanted a dog for the longest time, and he would do all it took to keep his best friend.
They Were Inseparable
While they were growing up, Jimmy and the dog, Lee, were both inseparable – at one point, he even wanted to take Lee to school. However, his parents assured him that his dog would still be there when he returned home.
For Jimmy, life was perfect, and he had everything he could ever want in life. Although his parents noticed something different while Lee kept on growing...
Something Wasn’t Right
One of their neighbors remarked on the dog’s rapid growth, “Your dog is growing really fast, are you sure it’s a dog?” This remark was met with a smile because the family was sure that the pet in their midst was really a dog.
However, Jimmy's parents started to notice that their dog was actually growing at a really fast pace. So they took him to the veterinarian, and once they were there, their fears were confirmed.
A Young Boy
Jimmy is like any other boy his age; he was smart, energetic, and loved his family dearly. He was immensely close to his parents and his siblings, although something was missing in his life.
Jimmy knew that he wanted some sort of pet from a young age, but he didn’t know how to ask for it. So one day, he gathered up his courage to ask his parents, but it didn’t end well...
He Begged His Parents
During one Christmas, he asked his mom and dad whether they could afford to buy him a dog. His father worked as a hunter, and his mother worked part-time on a local farm, so money didn’t come easily.
Although, they never ran out of food to eat, and they were always well provided for. So Jimmy begged his parents to give him a dog, but every time he asked, his parents always had the same answer: no. This went on for ages.
Mom and Dad Said No
Every time the boy asked his parents for a dog, they would always say no. His parents would say no, but not because they didn’t want a dog – it was quite the opposite.
Jimmy's parents know how expensive and time-consuming it would be to have a pet at home, and they weren’t sure if their son was up to the task. Not to mention the responsibility at stake, so they always said no. This brought immense sadness to the young boy...
A Sad Young Boy
The parents knew how much their son was longing for a dog, and the mother even thought about giving in. “Our son really wants a dog, and maybe it’s time that we give in to his request,” she told her husband.
However, the boy’s dad simply said, “We’ll wait for a few more months, and if he still wants a dog, we’ll get him one.” That was the deal, but everything changed when the boy’s uncle arrived for a visit.
A Visit from His Uncle
During the summer holidays, Jimmy's uncle came for a visit – luckily, the boy and his uncle were pretty close. They spent most of their time together, and they even went hunting in the woods with the boy’s father.
These were moments that the boy cherished, and he wished that his uncle didn’t need to go. However, something unusual happened, and this didn’t go unnoticed by the uncle.
Noticing Something Unusual
Whenever Jimmy was alone, his uncle would notice something quite unusual about his nephew. “What’s wrong with my nephew?” He asked his brother. Then his brother said, “He’s been begging us for a dog, but we haven’t given in yet.”
The uncle knew how much his nephew had wanted a dog, and so it made him sad too when his brother admitted that they weren’t going to get it for him. So he devised a little plan for himself...
The Uncle Had a Plan
While walking around town, the uncle tried to look for adoption centers where you could get a dog instead of buying them. After walking for a few minutes, he finally stumbled upon an animal center that looked like the perfect place to get his nephew a dog.
“Hello, I would like to adopt a dog,” he told the receptionist. A few moments after walking into the adoption center, the uncle went out holding a beautiful gray dog for his favorite nephew. Now, all he had to do was give it to him.
A Little Present
Before his uncle’s visit was over, the little boy could sense that something great was bound to happen – he just couldn’t figure out what it was. So when his uncle called him over, his sense of excitement grew, and he smiled from ear to ear.
His uncle said, “I have a surprise for you, buddy, and I think this is going to make you really happy.” Jimmy's eyes wondered and widened as his uncle handed him his first pet.
The Boy Was Overjoyed
Upon receiving the dog, Jimmy cried and hugged his uncle for so long upon receiving the dog. He said, “Thank you so much, uncle, this is the best present anybody has ever given me.” His uncle could see that he was really happy, which made him glad too.
Jimmy's parents saw the dog and told the boy, “Now you have far more responsibility; we hope you’re ready for it.” The boy simply nodded and smiled at his parents. He promised the dog that he would take care of it, and that was exactly what he did over the years...
They Grew Up Together
A few years have passed, and both Jimmy and Lee have grown up a bit. The boy kept his promise to his parents, and he had become such a responsible pet owner.
They grew up together and Lee was in every single family picture. It was now part of the family, and the boy couldn’t be happier. However, something was amiss, and Jimmy's parents just couldn’t quite put their finger on it.
Noticing Something Different
The parents knew that Lee was a bit bigger than the rest of their neighbor’s dogs around that age. Although, they never really paid much attention to it. Both of the boys’ parents have grown quite attached to the dog, treating it like family.
However, one of their friends commented on the dog’s appearance, and both parents questioned the dogs’ origins. So they decided to take it to the veterinarian for a check-up – they weren’t expecting to hear what the veterinarian said...
It Wasn’t A Dog
Upon arriving at the veterinary clinic, the look on the veterinarian’s face was pretty evident: he was shocked. He knew exactly what Lee's problem was even before he examined the dog.
A few minutes after the examination, the veterinarian told the parents the news, “This isn’t a dog that you have. It’s a growing wolf.” Both parents were shocked, and they had no idea how they could’ve missed such a detail!
A Growing Wolf
Both parents weren’t able to look at their pet the same way ever again. Yes, they still loved it, but now, there’s a looming fear that this wild predator might attack their children once it gets a bit bigger.
“We’ll have to get rid of it,” said the dad. Although, the mom couldn’t bring herself to put down the pet that her son loved. “Let’s tell our son first, and then we can decide,” she told her husband.
Getting Rid of Their Pet
Once his parents and pet returned home, Jimmy went straight towards the “dog.” This caused alarm to his parents because they knew the truth. Now, it was time to set the record straight and let their son know what creature his beloved pet really was.
When his parents told him that his pet was a wolf, the boy laughed because he thought his parents were joking. Then again, he saw the seriousness in his parents’ eyes and the firmness in his dad’s voice when he said that they’d have to get rid of their pet. The boy couldn’t believe what he was hearing.
The Boy Begged His Parents
Jimmy could see the seriousness in his parents’ faces, so he begged his dad if Lee could stay. He had grown to love his dog even though it was a wolf, and he promised to be more careful around it now that he knew the truth.
This was a really strange and hard decision for his parents because it was their family’s safety they were talking about. Although, did the boy get to keep his beloved wolf, or did they need to put it down?
Taking Care of the Wolf
Luckily, Jimmy's parents agreed that he could keep it if he were to be a bit more careful towards his pet. This made the boy extremely happy because he didn’t want to lose his best friend.
So he stayed true to his words, but the affection for his pet remained the same. They kept on growing together, and their bond became stronger.
Best Friends Forever
If the boy could bring his pet wolf to school, then he would’ve done so – although that would’ve ended in chaos. A few months after the big revelation, the wolf had grown so much bigger than a regular dog would have.
Although, this didn’t matter to the boy because he loved his pet the same way. They had an unwritten pact, and the boy and the wolf became best friends forever. However, a certain event would challenge their friendship...
Hosting a Birthday Party
The boy’s dad was going to turn 50, and so their family decided that they were going to host a small gathering with their close friends and family. This was an exciting time, and everybody was so busy trying to help in any way they could.
Naturally, Jimmy pitched in wherever he could, and he became so involved in organizing his father’s birthday. However, there was one problem, and the boy isn’t going to like the only solution at hand.
Locking Up the Wolf
During the festivities, the family realized that having a wolf in their midst might seem a bit frightening to some people. So they agreed to lock up the wolf only for the night. He wasn’t even going to be neglected because he would be warm in the family’s shed.
Jimmy agreed, even though it made him really sad. He was looking forward to celebrating his father’s birthday party, but he also couldn’t wait for it to be over because he wanted to be with Lee. That was his dilemma for that night.
A Sad Boy
The birthday party was an immense success, and most of the people that they invited came. The whole family celebrated, but the boy couldn’t help but feel guilty over locking up his beloved pet.
He knew that it was the right thing to do, but at the same time, it didn’t feel right to him. Nonetheless, he tried to enjoy the party, and he ate as much food as he could to forget his dilemma.
Enjoying the Party
The whole family and their guests enjoyed the party, and they didn’t even realize that it was getting quite late. Everybody was dancing and eating and simply chatting with everybody – it was a great party.
Then, it was finally time to take the family pictures, and when the parents called their children, they realized that something wasn’t right. One family member was missing, and they knew exactly who it was...
The Boy Went Missing
During a point in the party, Jimmy must’ve slipped in the back to check on his pet wolf because he was nowhere to be found. Although when they went to the shed, the wolf was there, but the boy wasn’t.
This caused alarm to the family, so they abruptly stopped the party to look for their missing son. They had no idea where he could’ve gone, and the woods was an extremely dangerous place during that time of night. The family was frantic.
A Local Search Party
The guests who attended the party were eager to help with the missing child, and they all got flashlights. They were ready to look for the boy.
A local search party was created, and they spread out through the wood to try and find the missing boy. However, he was nowhere to be seen, and it was getting late.
Nowhere to be Seen
During the wee hours of the morning, the search party was called off. However, they all agreed to get back out there early tomorrow morning to continue the search.
It was as if Jimmy had vanished, and he was nowhere to be found. The family was getting more anxious by the minute, and the parents couldn’t help but think about the worse. Their son was missing, and they had no idea where he could’ve been...
Clues Around the Forest
The following morning, the search for the missing boy continued. There wasn’t much going on in the forest, but they did find something that was utterly disturbing.
On one bush, the parents identified that the strips of clothing attached to it belonged to their son. The mother started crying because she didn’t know what could’ve happened to her son. Then, the father had a genius idea, and he hoped that it would work.
The Wolf Lead the Way
The father took the tattered pieces of clothing from the bush and let their pet wolf sniff it. The boy’s scent alerted the wolf, and it was as if he could sense danger too.
The rest of the search party kept looking for the boy, and the parents did too. Then a few minutes after sniffing the boy’s clothes, the wolf ran off in a completely different direction.
The Search Continues
Again, the day was coming to a close, and there was still no news about the boy. His family was starting to get worried, and they even got the help of their local police department.
Jimmy's parents didn’t want to give up. However, it was getting quite chilly, and their other children also needed to be taken care of. So whether they liked it or not, they had to go back home and postpone the search for yet another day.
Almost Giving Up
The family didn’t want to give up, but it was as if they were about to. Then, they saw something extraordinary when they were arriving at their house. Lee was there guarding the missing boy who was lying on the floor.
Apparently, the wolf found its owner somewhere on the other side of the woods, and he dragged him home. Not only that but the boy was wounded because he accidentally stepped on a trap, so his family rushed him to the hospital.
The Wolf Saved His Best Friend
What the family realized from this accident was that it was a mistake to seclude their pet from their family gatherings. He was, after all, a part of their family, and their son loved the wolf so much.
If it weren’t for the wolf, who knows when they would’ve found their missing boy? It shows that even predators can become tame if you love and care for them enough.
Wild Animals Could be Loyal Too
The boy and the wolf’s story is a true testament that wild animals could be loyal too. From then on, the boy and the wolf became closer, and the family never hid their pet wolf ever again.
While the boy was still cautious as the wolf grew bigger, he still loved his pet. The boy kept his promise that he would take care of his best friend, and in return, his best friend took care of him when he needed it the most.
