Where The 'Top Gun' Cast Is Today
It's hard to believe Top Gun came out more than 30 years ago. Isn't that insane? If it came out 30 years ago, you have to figure that shooting occured somewhere near 31-33 years ago.
Let me be the first to tell you the cast has come a LONG way. Tom Cruise is one thing, since we see him in at least one movie per year, every year, but the rest of the cast is something else. Let's start with Tom.
Tom Cruise / Maverick
With a re-boot of "The Mummy" coming out that has Tom Cruise at the helm, it's not like we don't know what he looks like now. In short, Tom's been everywhere in Hollywood. With the starring role in multiple "Mission Impossible" movies, not to mention the Oscar nominations, Tom has seen the most success of any star from the original movie.
Because he's been in so many movies since, he's kept in pretty good shape himself, but thirty years is a long time. What about his co-pilot, Goose?
Anthony Edwards / Goose
We all remember Goose's wise-cracking character in "Top Gun," but sadly Anthony Edwards hasn't starred in many movies since. He did appear in "Revenge of the Nerds" that came out a year after "Top Gun," but he's more so remembered now for his role as Mark Greene on the hit show "ER." Today that full head of hair is gone, but he still doesn't look too bad!
With that said, do you remember who Goose's wife was in "Top Gun?"
Meg Ryan / Carole
Meg Ryan is one of the few stars from Top Gun who did big things afterwards.
She starred in some of the most memorable romantic comedies of all time, like "You've Got Mail," "Sleepless in Seattle," and "When Harry Met Sally." Sadly she hasn't been in too many movies since, with her most recent one being "Serious Moonlight" in 2009.
Val Kilmer / Iceman
Tom Cruise certainly had a lot of success post-Top Gun, but he didn't play Batman! Val played the comic book favorite in "Batman Forever," and starred in "Tombstone" alongside Kurt Russel and Sam Elliot.
According to IMDB, he is coming back for the second installment, despite a nasty battle with cancer he's had to go through for the past several years.
Kelly McGillis / Charlie
Charlie is a character I'm sure all teenage boys remember from the original movie. She went on to star alongside Harrison Ford in "Witness," but largely remained out of the spotlight after that.
She now works at a drug rehab center in New Jersey.
Tom Skerrit / Viper
Tom Skerrit is 83 years old now.
After Top Gun he took roles in a variety of TV shows like "Picket Fences" and "Cheers." He hasn't starred in too many movies since, but did play Brad Pitt's father in 1992's "A River Runs Through It." How about the pilots from the original Top Gun?
Tim Robbins / Merlin
Merlin filled in for Goose after his unfortunate death in "Top Gun," and the guy who played him (Tim Robbins) has seen a lot of success since.
He's the only actor from the original movie to win an Academy Award ("Mystic River"), and he's also starred in film classics like "Shawshank Redemption." There's no word yet on whether he'll be back for the sequel.
Clarence Gilyard / Sundown
Clarence played "Sundown" in the original movie, and actually went on to find success in the hit show "Walker, Texas Ranger," as James "Jimmy" Trivette.
Like a couple people from the original cast, he hasn't been in many feature films since.
Rick Rossovich / Slider
Rick Rossovich was Iceman's wingman "Slider" in the original movie, and despite having two major Hollywood films under his belt in "Top Gun" and "Terminator," he didn't work in Hollywood too much again.
The last major movie he worked on was 1990's "Navy SEALs."
Michael Ironside / Rick 'Jester" Heatherly
Michael Ironside has actually appeared in a boatload of movies since "Top Gun." Best known for playing the 'tough guy' roles, he's also done a lot of voicework, too.
He voiced comic book villain Darkseid in "Superman: The Animated Series," and even Batman himself in "Batman: The Dark Knight Returns." If you want to see what he looks like you can glimpse him in feature films like "Terminator Salvation" and "X-Men: First Class."
