Movie Stars You Won't Believe Got Their Start On Television

Ever thought about how your favorite A-lister movie stars got their start? Many of them had very humble beginnings on the small screen in many different roles before they were able to break out to the silver screen.

While we all remember Jennifer Aniston as Rachel Green and Will Smith as the Fresh Prince, there are many others who we often forget got their starts on TV. This list is sure to jog your memory!

The TV Show: Before he became God (literally), Morgan Freeman found success on The Electric Company which was a comedy show for kids. He played a range of characters from Vincent the Vegetable Vampire to cool hipster, Easy Reader.
Breakout Movie: After The Electric Company, Freeman had a string of credits to his name.

Seth Rogan

It took 12 years for him to come into the spotlight with Driving Miss Daisy.

The TV Show: Rogan first jolt into the acting world came in the form of his sarcastic character, Ken Miller on Judd Apatow's high school ensemble show, Freaks and Geeks.
Breakout Movie: Rogan went on to play a school bully in Donnie Darko, and a small part in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.

Johnny Depp

However, he found big success in his role in The 40-Year-Old Virgin before finding even BIGGER success in his role in Knocked Up.

The TV Show: Although Depp had already had small movie roles under his belt from A Nightmare On Elm Street and Platoon, he hit it big time in the television world when he became a heartthrob in 21 Jump Street, playing undercover cop, Officer Tom Hanson.
Breakout Movie:Trying to break free of the sex-symbol image he had gathered over the years, Depp was determined to find the most bizarre role he could to begin his venture to the silver screen.

Ryan Reynolds

He found this in his starring role in Edward Scissorhands, which he gained massive success from, and also gained a prosperous partnership with frequent collaborator, Tim Burton.

Steve Carell

The TV Show: Reynolds did early recurring roles on small audience tv shows called Fifteen and The Odyssey, but these roles paved the way for acclaimed sitcom, Two Guys, A Girl And A Pizza Place, which he starred in from 1998 to 2001.
Breakout Movie: Following the show, Reynolds continued to do raucous comedy fare like Van Wilder: Party Liaison, which launched his persona as the cool, handsome cocky know-it-all.

Mila Kunis

The TV Show: Way before Carell hit the small-screen big-time playing Michael Scott on The Office, he began playing different characters on The Dana Carvey Show, leading to parts in short-lived sitcoms like Over The Top and Watching Ellie.
Breakout Movie: One babbling scene in Bruce Almighty, put him on a lot of people's comedy radar, but it wasn't until his one-liners in Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy, that he really stood out as a comedy talent to watch.

The TV Show: Kunis started out with recurring roles in television shows such as Nick Freno: Licensed Teacher and 7th Heaven. She also had two very early roles (playing two different characters) on Baywatch.

Jennifer Lawrence

Most people probably remember her pre-film days playing Jackie on That 70s Show, and voicing Meg Griffin on Family Guy.
Breakout Movie:Although she already starred in the probably best-forgotten sequel American Psycho II: All American Girl, Kunis found movie success when she co-starred in Forgetting Sarah Marshall with Jason Segal.

The TV Show: Lawrence appeared in a few episodes of Monk, Cold Case and Medium. She then went on to win a regular part in The Bill Engvall Show, which was a sitcom about a counsellor and his dysfunctional family.

Ryan Gosling

Unfortunately, the show was cancelled after only three seasons.
Breakout Movie: Lawrence landed on everyone's radars after seeing her role in Winter's Bone, which earned her a Best Actress Oscar nomination. She then increased her star factor when she starred in The Hunger Games, and X-Men:First Class.

The TV Show: Gosling began his acting career as a child star on Disney's Mickey Mouse Club in 1993. From here, he continued to go on to family oriented television shows such as Goosebumps and Young Hercules.
Breakout Movie: His first role on the big screen was in a little seen Neo-nazi drama entitled the The Believer.

Leonardo DiCaprio

However, it was his role in the ultimate romance film, The Notebook that gained big audience attention, especially from females.

The TV Show: After doing television advertisements, DiCaprio was fired from the set of Romper Room at five years-old for being too boisterous.

Adam Sandler

After making a small appearance on Parenthood, The New Lassie, and Roseanne, he hooked a roll as a homeless boy taken in on Growing pains.
Breakout Movie: DiCaprio became a talent to watch when he convincingly played a mentally handicapped boy in What's Eating Gilbert Grape? in which he earned an Academy Award Nomination.

The TV Show: Sandler was first hired as a writer on SNL and then became a featured performer for a year. He was best known for performing original songs, one of them being, 'Chakunah Song', but unfortunately in 1995, he was fired for reasons unknown.
Breakout Movie: Sandler became a household name in comedy when he starred in cinematic movies like Billy Madison, molding the rest of his career.

Robin Williams

Most of his films generally position him as a child in a man's body attempting to deal with the crazy world around him.

The TV Show: Williams got his big break with offbeat sitcom Mork and Mindy, after a guest role in Happy Days.
Breakout Movie: Before he became the go-to for animated voice-overs and family dramas, Williams showed screen promise in 1987 with Good Morning, Vietnam.
