Mom Thinks She's Having Twins, Then Doctors Ask Dad To Leave

She had been waiting for this moment all her life. She was about to become a mother for the first time, and she couldn't wait to meet her child. But after the doctors asked her husband to leave the room, she quickly realized that something was wrong.

The doctors then explained that it was for the best that her partner wasn't there. What had happened?

Meet Carrie and Craig

Carrie and Craig Kosinski had always wanted to have a big family. Before getting married, they had discussed their hopes of having at least three children and couldn't wait to get started.

But as they would soon realize, life had other plans. The couple soon discovered that they wouldn't be able to have children naturally due to several medical conditions.

Old Friend

In 2013, Carrie received a Facebook message from one of her old friends. Carrie was confused about why her friend would be reaching out after years of silence.

She knew something was up but never expected the response she was about to get. It turns out that her estranged friend was pregnant.

Taking Custody

Carrie's friend explained that she couldn't handle having another child and asked if the Kosinskis could adopt her baby. The couple was ecstatic. This was their chance to finally become parents.

"Adoption was always a part of what we had planned ... but we wanted to try to have our own children first and then adopt,"  Carrie, who was also adopted as a child, told ABC News.

Empathy

"I was adopted myself, and so I grew up in a family of nine. I always wanted a bigger family than that," she said.

"I know how sad you get and lonely, and you just want a family that's going to love you."

Adalynn and Kenna

On February 28, 2014, the woman gave birth to Adalynn and Kenna in an Ohio hospital. Carrie and Crag couldn't wait to meet their children for the first time.

However, they were prudent and decided to adopt the babies on a trial basis at first. Then, one year after the start of the trial, the couple contacted the birth mother with an update.

Another Set Of Twins

When the couple told the birth mother that they wanted to adopt the twins, she confided in them that she was having a difficult time raising her other two children, that were also twins.

The other set of twins was born exactly one year earlier on the same day, February 28. Carrie couldn't believe what she was hearing. Did the birth mother want them to adopt her other twins, too?

Two More Family Members

Carrie and her husband didn't hesitate when they were asked to adopt another set of twins. They had always wanted to have a big family and were financially secure enough to raise all four children.

A few weeks later, J.J. and Cece joined the family. Carrie later explained the reason for wanting to adopt all four children. It was a huge challenge for them but they could never have made a different decision.

Tough Decision

The couple said that the decision was difficult, but one that had to be made so the twins can grow up together.  “It was difficult. We were trying to get pregnant ourselves," Carrie told the reporters.

“But they were siblings, so that was definitely part of our consideration – we wanted to keep them together." Little did they know, this was just the beginning.

Wanting More Kids

Despite having four children at home, Carrie and Craig still wanted to have kids of their own and hoped that one day their wish would come true, despite what the doctors told them.

Then, one year later, Carrie received the news that would change her life.

Pregnancy Test

When Carrie took the pregnancy test, she was super nervous. The result was positive, but what her doctor had to say next would shock her to the core.

Carrie and Craig were on cloud nine when the doctor confirmed she was pregnant. But the really big news was that she was expecting twins! In one day, the family grew from six to eight members!

Contractions

Carrie's pregnancy was going well until one night she suddenly started feeling twinges in her abdomen. Carrie was five-months-pregnant when she thought she might be having contractions.

Craig and Carrie didn't want to take any chances and rushed to the hospital, but they were afraid they were too late.

An Emergency

Once the doctors examined Carrie, they realized they needed to act fast. They told her she needed an emergency procedure of the baby were come to be born this early.

Craig was asked to leave the room so the staff had more space to work. Would the twins survive?

Two More Babies

The twins arrived prematurely but healthy. The couple couldn't be happier that their tiny babies were fine. Now, they were parents to three sets of twins!

"They almost didn't make it," Carrie said.  "They're definitely our little miracle babies." So, how is the family doing now?

Keeping Busy

The Kosinskis are keeping "very, very busy" on their farm in Wisconsin. "There's never a dull moment in our house," Carrie said.

The biggest coincidence of this story, however, is that their newborns were also born on February 28th, just like their siblings! It's going to be a lot of birthday presents and cakes in one day!
