Mena Suvari Still Struggles With Postpartum Depression More Than One Year After Giving Birth

It's been over a year since Mena Suvari welcomed her son Christopher Alexander Hope, but she still suffers from postpartum depression. "I struggle with postpartum every day," the 43-year-old revealed on Rachel Bilson's Broad Ideas podcast. "That's all I'm doing next month is testing my hormones and bloodwork. So, yeah, it's all very real."

Suvari doesn't want to "sugarcoat it anymore because it doesn't 'serve anybody if I sit here and act like I'm perfect and I act like I got it together in a way that I don't." She said that every person is just trying to "survive and do the best that we can, and we have to help one another." The SAG Award winner said that she's 'entitled to those emotions' even though her husband Mike Hope is 'wonderful' and her son is 'perfectly healthy.'

"I remember sitting on our balcony saying, "I have to get out of the house. I have to get out of the house,"' Suvari recalled. "My husband, he said, "You can go. You can go for a walk." But I didn't think I could...I still struggle with that. That I don't need to be in my son's face 24/7 to raise a good human being because of my fear. It's a lot of work."
