Walking around the forest with his dogs has been quite a pastime for a local man named Jim Passmore. It was something they did every day, and it has become a part of their routine. So when something unusual happened during one of their walks, Jim and his dogs were suddenly at the right place and at the right time – or were they?
When it comes to tales of heroism and bravery, we always think about big guys in battles. However, Jim proved that not all heroes wore capes when he decided to go on a rescue mission. An unlikely tale of heroism has made his name well-known in his area and all around the internet. Although, he didn’t seem to expect the full extent of the rescue mission he was embarking upon.
An Ordinary Day
It was just an ordinary day for Jim Passmore and his dogs – they were about to go for their daily walk, just like they regularly did. Although, later that day, Jim would find something he wouldn’t have expected in a million years.
What would you do if you stumble upon a sight that’s both horrifying and scary? Many would simply run for their lives, but not Jim.
Strolling Through the Woods
Jim and his dogs like to stroll through the woods in their hometown of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. This has been a daily routine in their lives, and it seems to have gone very well for them.
As we know, there are various things that we can stumble upon in the woods, but Jim wasn’t expecting to find a creature floating in the river. Although knowing Jim, he’s not one to back down from an adventure.
Jim’s Story
Jim has lived in the town of Broken Arrow all his life, and he seems to be a well-liked part of his community. He did his part in making his community safe, and many people in Broken Arrow have grown fond of him and his dogs.
During one of their walks in March, Jim and his dogs were simply minding their own business. However, there was something in the water that caught their attention. The question remains: what kind of creature was lurking beneath it?
An Animal-Friendly Man
Jim thought that there was a creature lurking in the water because of its shape and size. Although, he couldn’t quite make out what kind of creature it was.
Knowing himself, Jim couldn’t quite shake off the thought that he needed to get in the river and try to rescue this creature by himself. Maybe it wasn’t the smartest option since he wasn’t sure what was in the water, and he was all alone...
An Unlikely Sight
Jim tried to make up his mind whether he would try and save the creature on the river or if he should simply go about his day. So he tried to go closer into the river to see what exactly he had to deal with.
When he came up, he saw that a beaver was hovering close to the trapped creature. So maybe it was another beaver who could be trapped in the water. Still, he wasn’t sure.
He Sensed Distress
Upon looking at the creature, Jim still couldn’t make up what exactly he was looking at because the creature was covered with mud. It was hard to make up what exactly it was with its current state and appearance, but Jim was adamant.
He could sense that the trapped animal was distressed, and frankly, any trapped animal would also be distressed if that happened to them. However, Jim’s dogs were not so ecstatic about their owner’s choices.
The Dogs Were Scared
The dogs that Jim took for a walk were quite scared of the trapped creature because they had no idea what it was. These dogs started barking loudly, which agitated the creature even more.
Due to the dog’s barks, the creature sensed that maybe it was all the more in danger. Jim knew that he had to calm his dogs to successfully get closer to the creature that he was planning on saving.
A Floating Log
From afar, the creature looked like it was a floating log because of its murky appearance. Although you could easily sense the creature breathing, it’s quite clear to see that it wasn’t a log at all.
Jim was starting to get antsy because he couldn’t get into the water and closer to the creature. He needed to devise some sort of plan – better yet, he needed to call some friends for help.
Jim Found Something
Upon reaching for his pocket, Jim realized that he didn’t have his mobile phone with him, so there was no way for him to call for backup. He needed to wait for some passersby to come so he could ask them personally.
Though it would take a few minutes before any other person came because they were practically in the middle of the woods. That’s when Jim found a solution to the problem he was thinking about.
A Creature in the Water
As the moments passed, the creature in the water was turning out to be too tired. A few minutes before, this creature was still trying to struggle to make its way into the riverbed. However, the struggles seemed to dissipate from then on.
Jim knew that if he wanted to save this creature’s life, he would need to act faster. He knew what he had to do.
It Looked Like a Beaver
If the creature in the water was a beaver, Jim had to be extra careful. Beavers were known to be quite territorial, and not only that, beavers can be rabid.
Jim had to come up with a plan to cover this beaver’s mouth if it was, so he could come in and save it. However, once Jim came closer, he realized that it wasn’t exactly what it seemed.
Something Was Amiss
Jim could see why his dogs had been so uneasy when it came to this creature. It looked like something was amiss, and it seemed like it was an extremely big beaver.
Even though he knew that he should just let it slide and get on with his day, Jim couldn’t make himself do so. What he did would astound many people, and many of them would deem this as plain stupidity and not heroism.
He Trusted His Guts
There was nothing else that he could do. He couldn’t call anybody for backup because he hadn’t brought his phone with him, and he couldn’t yell for help because nobody was in the woods with him.
All he needed was to trust his guts and to go all in. After all, the creature that needed help was an animal, and Jim was passionate about all kinds of animals.
It Was an Animal
Jim still couldn’t make out what kind of animal it was exactly, but he assumed it was a beaver because of the other beaver on the river bed. Maybe it was its mate, and the free one was asking for help.
There were so many options out there but too little chance of survival. Although, how did this beaver end up getting trapped in the river in the first place?
How Did It Get There?
He still couldn’t make out how the animal got stuck in the river, and the thing that made it more tragic was the fact that there was an animal cage attached to it. Upon realizing this, it looks like this was no accident at all.
The cage looks like it was used to transport other animals, but why would it be used for a beaver? Questions came flooding Jim’s mind, and he needed to move quicker.
Jim to the Rescue
Jim tried to get into the river, and while he was walking towards to creature, he realized that the water was nearly freezing. After all, it was a cold morning in March.
If he thought that the water was cold, what more could the animal feel if it’s been submerged in water for who knows how long? Would this animal even survive even if it was rescued?
Their Choices Were Slim
After what seems to have been a long one hour, a bunch of people finally passed by the woods and saw what Jim was trying to do. So they all tried to see what the fuss was all about and if they could help in any way.
The group tried to get into the water, but it was way too cold, and the animal sensed the growing number of people around it. They knew that they needed a plan if they were going to rescue the beaver.
They Needed a Plan
If it was, indeed, a beaver, they needed to cover its head so it wouldn’t bite them. This was extremely crucial since beavers are rabid, and one bite can give you rabies.
The animal was also half-submerged in the mud, so the rescuers needed to dig around it. This task seemed to be more and more complicated by the minute, but Jim wasn’t about to give up.
A Successful Operation
Upon digging around the cage, they successfully loosened it, and the animal was free. Another thing that they did was to wrap a piece of clothing around the animal’s head so they wouldn’t be bitten.
After minutes of digging and trying to get the animal’s head, Jim and the other rescuers finally succeeded. Although, there was one more surprise because the creature was not what they expected it to be...
The Creature
After trying to rescue the creature, Jim and the rescuers finally had a proper glimpse at what it is. They were even more stunned to find out that it wasn’t a beaver nor any other dangerous animal. It was far from it.
The creature trapped in the cage was actually a frail dog that was left by the river. They had no idea how it got into the waters because it seemed to have been left on the land. Nevertheless, there were some pretty big concerns.
The Rescuer’s Concerns
The main thing that Jim noticed was how weak the dog was. It was shivering heavily, and it couldn’t stand on its own, so it had to be carried to safety.
It looks like the dog had a pretty tough time, and it was in no shape to go home. As the moments passed, growing concern and alarm had been met by the rescuers.
It Was Unable to Walk
Jim decided to call the dog Teddy because of its fluffy appearance. Teddy seemed like such a good boy, and he calmed down once he realized that he was in safe hands now.
Although, he still couldn’t walk because of his weak legs and frail state. It looked like Teddy would need some time to recuperate and find the owners who abandoned him.
Calling for Back-Up
One of the rescuers finally called for help, and they eventually reached out to the Oklahoma Alliance for Animals. The animal shelter came in as quick as they could so they could examine Teddy.
As usual, the dog was not in the mood to entertain strangers, but it had to be done. The people from the animal shelter were shocked to see Teddy’s state – they wondered who could do such a thing.
An Appalling Situation
Upon finding Teddy, he wasn’t in a particularly “happy” situation because he was basically left there to fend for his own. He wasn’t even free, and as a matter of fact, he was caged.
It was an appalling situation, and no dog should be able to feel that way. His rescuers started to get curious as to what Teddy’s real story might’ve been really, and how he ended there in the first place.
The Real Story
One of the things that had left the rescuers astounded was that nobody knew where Teddy came from. There were speculations that he must’ve been left in that place the night before, but nobody knew the truth.
Although, it was verified that Teddy was actually an old dog, and he doesn’t seem as energetic as he was when he was younger. That could be a factor as to why his original owners didn’t seem as keen to keep him.
Very Irresponsible Owners
One thing that each dog owner has to realize is that dogs are a responsibility. Like children, you have to raise them, and you can’t just discard them in the middle of nowhere once they get old.
It was apparent that Teddy’s owners weren’t aware of this since they discarded Teddy in such a drastic way. No wonder why Teddy now has massive trust issues when it comes to humans...
Dog with Trust Issues
After the terrifying ordeal, Teddy was rescued by the Oklahoma Alliance for Animals. However, the dog still wasn’t feeling his new environment since he was still a bit uneasy.
It was normal for Teddy to feel mistrustful because of what he had to go through. However, would he still be able to trust his carers after this dreadful accident?
Teddy’s New Life
After a few weeks, Teddy was starting to come out of his shell. He knew that he was being treated well by the carers at the Oklahoma Alliance for Animals, and he was doing so well.
Once in a while, Jim would pop by for a visit since Teddy wouldn’t be here had it not been for Jim’s heroic actions. Although, there was one problem that Jim nor the people at the Oklahoma Alliance for Animals had no answer to...
The Biggest Problem
Since the dog was in its old age, it was highly unlikely that he would ever get adopted again. As much as Teddy was a sweet dog, most people want a younger dog that they could grow up with. So that’s definitely been a challenge.
So what they did was a normal thing to do in this day and age – they posted Teddy’s story on the internet. Although, would it work in favor of the old dog?
A Seemingly Viral Story
Once the rescued dog’s story was put up on the internet, many locals in Oklahoma felt that they needed to do something for Teddy. Quickly, the word was spread that an old dog needed to get adopted, and everyone got to work to spread the word out.
It was still a challenge since Teddy was old, but the locals in Oklahoma wouldn’t take no for an answer. Though, was that enough to get Teddy adopted?
The Adoption Process
To this day, nobody knows whether Teddy had been adopted or not. Although, it would be hard to think that he wouldn’t be as he is a pretty terrific dog!
We think that someone who read about him on the internet might’ve adopted him. Well, at least, that’s what we would like to think.
Teddy Was in Good Hands
Even though Teddy would’ve stayed with his carers at the Oklahoma Alliance for Animals, he would’ve been treated with the love and care he needs and deserves. He’s a pretty great dog, after all.
Any family would be grateful to have another addition like Teddy in their family. It goes to show that even though he’s been badly treated before, he can safely rest in the assurance that he’ll be well taken care of for the rest of his life.
Where is Teddy Now?
We believe that Teddy’s now adopted by a great family, but we can’t be too sure. No mention of him had been made in the news recently, but it’ll be hard not to adopt him if you see him on social media.
Sometimes, a random stroll through the woods can seriously change our lives, and sometimes, we can change someone’s life. This happened to both Jim and Teddy, who proves that there’s still good in the world – somewhere.
A Life Lesson
Teddy’s story is a life lesson to both Jim and every pet owner out there. It goes to show that there are owners who couldn’t care less about the well-being of their pets, and it’s surely such a shame.
However, people like Jim still do everything to rescue an animal that they see in the middle of nowhere. The question that remains is this: which one are you?
