Big Green Bus
When a 1982 West Midlands metro bus reached 700,000 miles and spent it's last years serving as a school bus, it was time for it to retire. Just around the time the old bus was about to be given away to be used as scrap metal, Adam Collier-Woods bought it online for a steal.
He then transformed it into the "Big Green Bus", a 3-bedroom retreat in the English countryside.
Deciding to take on the work all on his own, Adam did an amazing job making the exterior of the bus stand out. He decided to go with a bright green paint, a color that certainly catches the eye.
Sussex Countryside
He used this green theme throughout the interior of the bus as well.
The Green Bus is located in a private woodland within the Sussex countryside. Outside of the bus you can find a second heated shower, a fire pit, and many place to sit amongst the trees to sit and relax.
Seating and Dining Area
The concept behind the "Big Green Bus" according to the site "was to create a space where people can holiday in beautiful countryside, enjoy nature and the peace and quiet it offers. There's no wireless internet or TV on the bus and amplified music is not allowed on site so a stay on "The Big Green Bus" really is an opportunity to relax and get away from it all."
Like the outside, the seating and dining area has plush lime green benches and throw pillows. In this room, there is plenty of room for guests to relax, eat, or play a game of cards in the space. There's a sleeper bunk in the back, allowing friends and family to stay over for the night.
Wood Stove
There's windows surrounding the room, allowing natural light to fill the space. If more room is needed, the table can also be removed and stowed in the back, and also can be used to cover the rear window.
A bit chilly outside? No problem! Guests can cozy up the functioning wood stove.
The Original Seats
This small stove is able to keep the entire bus nice and warm. Along with the stove, the bus also has hot water, electricity, and updated outlets. The website says, "“There’s no getting away from the fact that you’re on a bus, and a lot of the original bus fittings have been re-used throughout the quality conversion which makes it a fun and original place to spend your holiday.
At the front of the bus, is another chill out space where you can relax with a collection of books or board games if that's more you're style. The only thing left from the original bus are the two original bus seats at the front of the bus.
The Kitchen
It's an ideal place to sit with a glass of wine and take in your surroundings.
While cooking a meal in the galley style kitchen, you'l completely forget you're staying on an old school transportation bus. The kitchen has a large basin sink, wooden countertops, a stove and oven, and of course, bright green cabinets to match.
The Bathroom
The entire bus is also lined with hardwood oak flooring.
Sure, the bathroom isn't exactly huge, but you have to keep in mind, you're on a bus! Within the bathroom is a fun painted "fish" toilet and a painted shower as well.
The 2nd Floor
Adam went for a bright and colorful tile in the space, giving it a fun personality.
When you walk upstairs you'll find yourself in a quiet place to read along with three other bedrooms. The website for 'The Big Green Bus' says, "At the front of the bus, there's a chill out space with a collection of books and board games.
The Bedrooms
Featuring two of the original bus seats, it's the ideal place to sit with a glass of wine and take in the view of the surrounding countryside."
You'll find that one of the bedrooms has a push out window, allowing fresh air to circulate through the room. This is the only bedroom that has a push out window, but the others have their own charms!
The bunk room can be seen if you continue down the hall at the rear of the bus.
