Chris Noth (Detective Mike Logan)
Detective Mike Logan was portrayed by Chris Noth, from 1990-1995. Since leaving the show, he went one to BIGger things. He reprised the role of Mr.
Big, in both “Sex and the City” feature films. He had a reoccurring role of Peter Florrick in “The Good Wife.” Most recently, in 2016, he played General William Cogswell on the TV series “Tyrant.” In 2015, he was named GQ’s International Man of the Year.
Michelle Hurd (Detective Monique Jeffries)
Monique Hurd originally appeared on one episode of “Law & Order,” as Angela Roney, in 1997. However, she was brought back, in 1999, to play Detective Monique Jeffries. Hurd left the show in 2001.
She has since been on many TV shows, including “ER,” “Gossip Girl,” “90210,” “The Glades,” “Devious Maids,” “Hawaii Five-O” “Daredevil” and “Ash vs. Evil Dead.” She currently plays Shepherd on the hit TV series “Blindspot.”
Benjamin Bratt (Detective Rey Curtis)
Benjamin Bratt played Det. Rey Curtis from 1995-1999, until his character left to take care of his ailing wife. He reprised his role on one episode in 2009.
Since leaving the show, Benjamin Bratt has had a very successful acting career. He had reoccurring roles on TV series “Private Practice,” “24: Live Another Day,” and “Modern Family.” He has done voice acting in “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs,” and “Despicable Me 2.” In 2016, he also had a role in Marvel’s “Doctor Strange.”
Fred Dalton Thompson (D.A. Arthur Branch)
Simultaneously serving as Tennessee’s Senator, Fred Dalton Thompson played D.A. Arthur Branch. He was the only one on the show who was actually a real life prosecutor.
Thompson left the show in 2008 to run for U.S. President. Aside from his political career, Thompson continued acting after “Law & Order.” He has had roles in multiple movies including “Secretariat,” “Sinister,” “90 Minutes in Heaven.” Unfortunately, in late 2015, at the age of 73, Thompson died from a recurrence of lymphoma.
Fred Dalton Thompson (D.A. Arthur Branch)
Former model Carey Lowell played A.D.A. Jamie Ross from 1996 to 2001. Jamie Ross originally left the show in season 8 to take care of her daughter.
Lowell reprised the role of Ross, in “Law & Order: Trial By Jury,” in 2005. From 2007-2007, Lowell had the reoccurring role of Christine Caseman on “Six Degrees.” Most recently, she had a role in the 2016 film “C Street.” She married Richard Gere in 2002, but they divorced in 2016.
S. Epatha Merkerson (Lt. Anita Van Buren)
S. Epatha Merkerson played Lt. Anita Van Buren, on nearly 400 episodes.
Van Buren was a tough, shrewd and hard-working character as she was fighting to prove herself worthy of her position. Merkerson continued her acting career after leaving the show in 2010. She appeared in featured films “The Challenger,” “Year by the Sea,” “Peeples,” and the 2012 critically acclaimed movie “Lincoln.” She currently plays Sharon Goodwin on “Chicago Med.” She also played Sharon Goodwin on “Chicago P.D” and “Chicago Fire.”
Carolyn McCormick (Dr. Elizabeth Olivet)
Dr. Elizabeth Olivet, played by Carolyn McCormick, was a clinical psychologist who worked with the NYPD and District Attorney’s office.
She reprised that role in 4 of the “Law & Order” franchises. Her last appearance in the series was in 2013, on “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.” She has kept on acting, landing roles in TV series and movies like “Elementary,” “Equity,” and “Madam Secretary.” She has also recorded many audio books, including the popular series “The Hunger Games.”
Leslie Hendrix (Elizabeth Rodgers)
Medical examiner Dr. Elizabeth Rodgers was played by Leslie Hendrix. She was known for getting frustrated with officers when they bothered her for results when she hadn’t had enough time to complete her work.
She is only one of five characters to have appeared on all four of the “Law & Order” franchises. Her last appearance was in 2011, on “Law & Order: Criminal Intent.” Since leaving the show, Hendrix’s most recently appearance was, in 2016, on the series “Gotham.”
Anthony Anderson (Detective Kevin Bernard)
Anthony Anderson played Detective Kevin Bernard on “Law & Order,” from 2008-2010. However, he also played Detective Lucius Blane on one episode of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” in 2006. Anderson was very successful before his stint on “Law & Order,” and that only continued after the show.
He has had roles in numerous TV shows and movies. He currently stars in the series “Black-ish,” for which he is also the executive producer.
Michael Moriarty (D.A. Ben Stone)
Executive Assistant D.A. Ben Stone was played by Michael Moriarty. He was nominated for multiple Emmys and a Golden Globe award for his performance. He left the show in 1994 and he was replaced by Sam Waterson.
Shortly after he left the show, Moriarty declared himself a political exile. He moved to Canada. However, he still acted after the move. He had roles in feature films “Shiloh,” “The Art of Murder,” “Along Came a Spider,” and “Neverwas.”
Melina Govich (Nina Cassaday)
Nina Cassaday was the first and only female detective of the original “Law & Order” series. She was partnered with Detective Ed Green. Since leaving the show in 2006, has had parts in various productions.
In 2013, she was in films “Lucky N#mber” and “Pass The Light.” In 2014, she appeared on an episode of “The Mentalist” and had a reoccurring role on “Finding Carter,” from 2014-2015. She also has a singing career. In 2008, she sang the National Anthem at a New Jersey Devils Hockey game, as well as went on tour with famous Chinese pop singer, Fei Xiang.
Jill Hennessy (D.A. Claire Kincaid)
D.A. Claire Kincaid was first introduced to audiences on “Homicide: Life on the Streets,” the predecessor show of “Law & Order.” Jill Hennessy’s character was killed when her car was struck by a drunk driver.
Today, Jill continues acting and has also begun singing. She has released two albums, including her most recent in 2015, titled “I Do.” Her most notable acting role was the titular character in TV series “Crossing Jordan,” from 2001 to 2007.
Linus Roache (D.A. Michael Cutter)
Linus Roache played District Attorney Michael Cutter on seasons 18 through 20. Like his predecessor Jack McCoy, Cutter was willing to find loopholes and bend the rules to convict the criminal.
In 2012, Roache landed a lead role on the TV mini-series “Titanic.” The show was created to coincide with the 100 year anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. From 2014-2016 he played King Ecbert on History Channel’s TV series “Vikings.”
Jeremy Sisto (Detective Cyrus Lupo)
Jeremy Sisto played Detective Cyrus Lupo on the last three seasons of “Law & Order.” After leaving the show in 2010, Sisto landed reoccurring roles on multiple popular TV series including “Suburgatory,” “The Returned,” “Wicked City ,” and currently “Ice.” In 2014, he wrote the screen play, produced, and starred in the comedy “Break Point.” In 2016, he had a role in the movie “Girl Flu,” “The Other Side of the Door ,” and “Love Is All You Need?”.
Richard Brooks (D.A. Paul Robinette)
Richard Brooks appeared as D.A. Paul Robinette on the first 3 seasons of “Law & Order.” However, he made appearances on the show in 2005 and 2006.
Richard continued to act and opened his own production company called Flat Top Productions. From 2013-2015 he had a reoccurring role on “Being Mary Jane.” In 2016, he had roles in the TV show “The Good Wife,” and TV movie “The Rich & the Ruthless.”
Dennis Farina (Detective Joe Fontana)
Detective Joe Fontana replaced Lennie Briscoe as Senior Detective in 2004. Played by Dennis Farina, Detective Joe Fontana was willing to bend the rules in order to catch the criminal. He left the show in 2006.
Farina co-starred in the 2012 HBO horse-race gambling series “Luck,” with Dustin Hoffman. He also had a recurring role in 2013 in the television comedy series “New Girl.” Unfortunately, Farina died in 2013 from a pulmonary embolism.
Andrea Navedo (Detective Ana Cordova)
Andrea Navedo appeared as Detective Ana Cordova for 24 episodes on “Law & Order,” from 2001-2004. However, Navedo also played Cynthia Mancheno on 3 episodes of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” in 2013.
In 2014, she landed the role of Xiomara Villanueva in the series “Jane the Virgin.” In 2015, she had a role in the movie “Superfast!”. She is currently credited with having a role, alongside Will Smith, in the film “Bright,” which is currently filming.
Ice-T (Detective Odafin Tutuola)
Detective Odafin “Fin” Tutuola has been on the cast for quite some time, since season 2. Fin has a background in a narcotics unit and always makes sure to do right by the victim.
Ice-T, however, also keeps busy off set of “Law & Order.” He has been in a numerous other TV shows and movies. In 2016, he appeared on the series “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.” It has also been reported he will release new music collaborations, in 2017.
IRichard Belzer (Detective John Munch)
Since first appearing in 1993, Belzer has appeared as Detective John Munch not only on “Law & Order,” and “SVU,” but also on “Homicide: Life of the Street,” “Arrested Development,” and “30 Rock.” Although Belzer retired from the show in 2013, he made a guest appearance in 2016. Since playing the cynical, but intelligent Detective, Mucnch has mainly stayed away from Hollywood.
In 2015, like his co-star Ice-T, he appeared on an episode on “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.”
