The President


Xi Jinping is, since 2013, the President of the Peoples Republic of China, as well as the General Secretary of the Communist Party.

Childhood


He was born June 1953 in Beijing.

Xi Zhongxun


His father Xi Zhongxun, served as China's deputy prime minister and was an early ally of Mao Zedong.

Facing Jail


His father often didn't agree with the government, which made him face persecution and jail during the Cultural Revolution and then received rehabilitation in the 1970s.

In 1962 Mao sent him to work at a factory.

He graduated in Chemical Engineering from the Tsinghua University.

His wife, Peng Liyuan, is a famous Chinese folk singer.

Xi Jinping is the only Chinese President to have a Ph.D. and one of the only Chinese leaders who is educated in humanities.

Xi is known as a very humble person.

He was once seen at Beijing eatery queuing-up for a simple lunch and he even though they wanted to offer him his food, he insisted to pay.
