Why would the old lady adopt a gigantic beast? All the neighbors around were sure it was a terrible idea. Yet, Valentina refused to listen to everyone's concerns. She wanted a pitbull in her home, and nobody could make her change her mind.
A year later, a terrible scream is heard from Valentina's house. The neighbors are rushing to her home, realizing it might actually be too late. After several attempts, they finally entered the old lady's home. What they see inside makes everyone gasp.
Valentina
An older woman named Valentina is a kind-hearted woman who might shyly say hi to neighbors passing by. Valentina lives alone on the outskirts of the town, rarely talking to the neighbors and mainly staying at her home.
From a young age, Valentina had a love for dogs. She said that if she ever met that dog that everyone feared, she would help it. For her, there should be no dog ending up in the streets. So one day, she decides to adopt the pup, however, not knowing what this decision would lead to one day.
How Did It Happen?
Valentina was walking to the nearest store to buy her groceries. On her way there, she noticed a huge dog. Though it was a beautiful animal, it looked really tired and dirty.
For some reason, Valentina felt like it was the dog she wanted to adopt and take care of. "I'm taking that buddy home," - she thought. Would she change her mind if she knew what that dog was hiding?
Kind heart
The older woman was hesitant to pet the huge dog at first, considering his size. However, when she looked at the eyes of the pitbull, she was confident of her decision. Therefore, she decided to help out this animal. Feeling a bit nervous, Valentina approached the stray dog slowly but surely.
Upon closer look, the poor pup had a lovely coat but was so thin. The dog gave a questioning look, but it behaved calmly. The moment the dog wagged his tail, Valentina knew it was hungry. This friendship was staring out pretty well!
Amazing Interaction
If another person were in her shoes, they might have run away and never come back, but Valentina did the opposite. The elderly woman stood there courageously while both of them were looking at each other.

She moved a little bit further and called the dog. The pooch instantly started following her home. The dog obeyed her whenever she gestured to follow her. The two already developed a strong connection even in their first meeting.
The two were enjoying their walk through houses and trees. However, when they almost reached her home, Valentina ran into her neighbor.
Stigma about Pitbulls
The neighbor greeted her but was too scared to step outside of the car. Looking at the dog from top to bottom, the neighbor informed her that the dog was a pitbull and it was a dangerous breed. With conviction, she began persuading Valentina to leave the dog outside.
Furthermore, the neighbor explained that the dog was capable of hurting her or someone else in her home. With pride in her voice, Valentina disagreed and told her neighbor that the dog's size didn't impress fear in her. She politely said her goodbyes and proceeded to walk home.
Finding a Loving Home
Her stray dog followed Valentina home. After arriving, she immediately gave her four-legged guest a delightful meal. Valentina also provided the poor animal with a warm blanket.
The stray dog was shy at first, but later in the evening, he became more at home and comfortable. It was as if the dog always belonged inside a loving home.
Well-pampered
Though bashful at first, the dog gradually grew relaxed around the old woman. She tried playing with him to gain his trust and gave him lots of belly rubs and kisses. Valentina uses various strategies to make him less shy.
After a few days, she successfully bonded and tamed the homeless dog. The nervous pooch turned into an energetic and playful dog thanks to Valentina's patience.
Start of Something New
On a typical day, Valentina's new companion would pull her out of her seat and take her to the backyard to play. Both of them found comfort and bliss in each other's company. After quite some time, he adapted pretty well to the house.
He would spend each minute guarding the place when Valentina was asleep. Under his new owner's care, the animal gained his lost weight and fur back, looking much healthier than a few weeks ago.
The Search began
The elderly woman knew she couldn't keep the dog forever. Even though he stayed at her house, Valentina would still put up flyers almost everywhere in her town in hopes of finding the dog's actual owner. Figuring that someone else out there was missing a dog, she had to try her best.
However, nobody responded to any of the lost dog flyers. Maybe someday, someone would knock at her door, asking for the dog back. Nevertheless, Valentina chose to enjoy every minute with him.
Found Companion
Over the years, the dog grew more active and close to his companion. The dog's undivided attention and loyalty brought Valetina so much joy. Though she has children, they rarely visit her. That's why the pup was destined to stay with her to keep her company.
Valentina was very grateful for the dog's company, and while getting tired of calling him some other name, she decided to do something about it. With much contemplation, she gave the giant Pitbull a name.
Base
The Pitbull became known as Base. She named her that specific name because whenever the dog barks, it's similar to when the entire house vibrates. It even frightens the neighbors to the point that they wouldn't walk past her house.
His bark was very low and rough, which was fitting to his giant size. For Valentina, Base was the most adorable friend and companion!
Judgments From the Neighbors
There was no doubt Valentina loved Base, but the people around them started throwing shade. They asked her to get rid of the dog or leave it on the streets because it doesn't belong in a house. However, Valentina dismissed those requests.
The neighborhood judged her every time she stepped out of the house. They thought it was inappropriate for an old woman to adopt such a Pitbull for her safety and theirs.
Misunderstood Dog
Moreover, given that he was a stray, they feared she might get attacked anytime. They believed she should surrender the giant dog to a dog pound, where he belongs. But Valentina and Base valued their friendship so much. They enjoyed spending time with each other.
Base was her companion and guard dog. He would loyally follow her everywhere she went.
A Mismatch
Though people think the owner and the dog were a mismatch, their bond grew more optimistic. Surprisingly, Base was very much protective of his human. He would help her carry heavy stuff, and Valentina would tell him stories every day.
Valentina didn't feel lonely after Base came into her life. For her, Base was a blessing in disguise.
Stories by the Fireplace
Valentina would tell him many stories throughout the day. The dog would listen to her as if he understood every word she spoke. Fascinated by her presence, he would always sit down and listen to the stories about her past.
The old woman who was living alone had someone that she could talk to now. It was a huge difference from living alone. Most importantly, she felt more cheerful and energetic as the days went by. Day or night, Base was always around Valentina.
A Family Visit
After spending winter and spring with Base, Valetina's children and grandchildren visited her for the summer. They met the adorable, gentle giant, and her family wasn't scared of him. Base was able to get along with the little ones, and he was extremely patient. They even rode and played with him.
They made him feel like he was the king of the house. With open arms, he was welcomed warmly as a member of the family.
One Sunny Morning
Everything was going easily and cheerfully in Valentina's house. Until one sunny morning, her grandchildren decided to visit and walk beside the river. They wanted to take Base with them, but Valentina disagreed.
She was scared that Base would run away or get lost. Pleading with their grandmother was no use because, by the end of their conversation, Base was left behind since he had a chain leash tied up in the yard.
Unforeseen Disaster
Valentina's youngest grandchild entered the water up to his knees. Thinking that the water was freezing, he bent down to touch the water courageously. In a split second, he lost his balance and slipped into the water.
The strong current swept him away even deeper. What's worse was his older brother also couldn't swim. All he could do was scream for help!
Old Woman's Screams
Valentina started screaming at the top of her lungs. Everyone heard her, especially her neighbors. The neighbors were waiting for this day to come thinking, "the dog had done it this time"!
They knew the dog was bound to get aggressive at some point and attack her. They thought Base attacked the old woman but did he?
The Four-legged Hero
However, it was a different situation. The young boy was drowning, and Valentina saw Base chew off his chain leash aggressively. Running as fast as he can, help came from someone least expected.
Base heard the boys' screams from the yard and rushed to the river immediately. He did not think twice about saving his little buddy and jumped into the river to rescue him.
Arduous rescue
Even though Base had a muscular body, the water current and the boy's weight were making it hard for him to reach the shore. However, this didn't stop him from paddling his way to safety. The dog swam harder with the little boy on his back.
Thankfully, Base saved his little buddy. After reaching the shore, the pooch laid down for several minutes coughing the water he had swallowed. Worried about the safety of her dog and grandchild, she rapidly rushed forward to see if any damage was done.
Dramatic Turn of Events
Everyone turned away from the dog, but they never knew he was the only one who could save the little boy. The neighbor who told Valentine about the harm of keeping a stray dog arrived at the scene.
At first, she thought the dog had attacked the kids. However, upon closer inspection, she understood what had happened. This made them change their minds about the pitbull.
Took Down The Flyers
The neighbors said Valentina should take down the flyers because Base ultimately found his home. Moreover, this family was Valentina. It's as if Base chose to be with them, and destiny brought Base and Valentina together. The two friends found companionship and happiness in each other.
Base saved the little boy at the expense of his life. After that event, Valentina swore to herself to never let go of Base. She gave up on finding his actual owner. Base has now found a forever home and a part of her family. He will never experience being alone in the streets and feared by the people.
Base the Brave Hero
The brave pup proved that a gentle giant like him is not to be feared. He was now cherished across the neighborhood. Valentina was beyond grateful to her dog. She looked at him and smiled without saying a word. Base changed her life and gave her grandson another chance in life.
They may look ferocious and scary, but Pitbulls are gentle dog breeds. Base is a living example that not all big dogs should be feared for. This brave hero changed everyone's mind in that tiny town in Russia. Not only did he find a loving home, but he also won the hearts of the entire neighborhood because of his brave act. Base and Valentina will forever enjoy each other's company.
