While most of the genius ideas come up to us while we take a shower or try to fall asleep, we can all agree that we never end up going through with them. But that wasn’t the case for Mark Rober, a former NASA engineer who got this crazy idea of filling an entire pool with nothing else than Jell-O. Why would anyone ever want to do that? Well, Mark’s childhood dream was to belly flop in a pool of Jell-O, so as any scientist that wants to experience crazy ideas, he started his fun experiment. Did he achieve his dream? There’s only one way to find out!

Mark is a man that goes through with his crazy ideas. He was not joking when he said he’s going to build a pool full of Jell-O. But what he’d realize is that he needed a lot of preparing to make his idea work. The end result is stunning and the time he spent was worth it!

We all know the recipe for Jell-o is easy... You need to mix it with hot water then let it cool in the fridge. But here’s where things got complicated. First, we’re talking about reaching the right boiling point. Then, it has to reach the right cooling point. Freezing Jell-o was out of the question! And Mark wanted to make his pool right before winter. What did he do?

After months of research and calculations, after different ratios of powder and temperatures, Mark reached the perfect Jell-o consistency. But he had a lot more work to do than just make a large batch of Jell-o. He had to build the pool!

Yes, the experiment included building the pool just to fill it with Jell-O! The thing about Jell-O and adding it into a big container like a pool or a bathtub was that many other people have tried it before, but it wasn’t consistent. Mark wanted his Jell-O to be bouncy! And his brother helped him with this crazy idea, both building the pool… Yes, the experiment included building the pool just to fill it with Jell-O!

The experiment could have failed if there was not enough Jell-O. But for the former NASA engineer, calculations were not an issue. He had to solve the consistency versus Jell-O quantity and find a way to not make it all a mush! Here’s why the schedule was also a critical factor… The experiment could have failed if there was not enough Jell-O.

These guys were quite resourceful! They made tens of tests to reach the perfect states or bounciness. So, they filled six huge barrels with the Jell-O mixture and got ready to fill the pool. It was time to let gravity do its job as the mixture was going through pipes, into the pool… These guys were quite resourceful!

Everyone was eagerly waiting to bounce in the pool! Then, they had to wait a little more until the end of April. But was this experiment going to be successful? Let’s see for ourselves!

The thing is that Mark and his brother had to check out the forecast! If it was going to rain, their experiment would fail. But if it was too hot, the Jell-o would turn into mush and again the experiment wouldn’t have succeeded. Wait until you see them finally trying it out at #8!

It was a dream that the entire family was willing to fulfill, so they even spent nights guarding the pool and having some fun. To make sure that each layer of Jell-o was bouncy, Mark had to pour thin layers and let them cool. He had to make sure that they would get to the perfect low temperature. His neighbors even pitched in!

Thanks to his neighbors’ old swamp cooler, they managed to lower the Jell-O’s temperature to perfect degrees! But would all the layers be as bouncy as Mark intended? Anticipation rose and, obviously, everyone wanted to jump in the pool!

Mark was lucky to have so much help around. Now he was looking at the Jell-O consistency, checking if it reached the optimal state. When he thought of this experiment, he didn’t think so many issues would arise! It was quite a difficult task, but you’ll all see it was worth it!

While Mark was eager to hop into the pool, he let the kids have fun first and take the first belly flop into the pool filled with red Jell-O. The landing is incredible, and thanks to Mark’s documentary, we saw it in slow motion! Did he bounce? Let’s see it in the next photo.

We have to say, it’s so satisfying watching the seconds when the kids touches the surface of the jelly. And then Mark finally completes his dream by jumping in and then again and again. Just look at the happy kids! The long experiment was more than a success! We must all agree that it was perfection itself! The bouncy jelly was more than bouncy! It was magical, all thanks to Mark’s genius idea and everyone that jumped in to help him out. But it was not yet over because they had more tests, including a … Jell-O slide!

It was indeed a Jell-O that allowed you to do a perfect belly flop as if you were in the cartoons. Here’s Mark checking out the consistency from inside. His words describing the feeling of staying in the jelly made everyone around laugh… The next photo is just stunning!

Looking at the jelly and then at the camera, Mark admitted that swimming in the world’s biggest pool of Jell-O felt strange: “It’s like swimming in snot. Like a good snot.” Looking at the jelly and then at the camera, Mark admitted that swimming in the world’s biggest pool of Jell-O felt strange: “It’s like swimming in snot.

The fun carried on with Mark and the neighbors, family and friends jumping and swimming in the Jell-oo pool, looking for toys inside the pool and then as the jelly got warmer and turned into mush, they started a new game, adding a water slide but filling it with the "good snot." It was the best time they’ve ever had!

The experiment was a success! Everyone bounced back out of the Jelly, which was also edible but not tasting too good because they didn’t add sugar to the mixture into the pool. Nonetheless, they did make a sweetened batch to eat it while chilling at the pool.

All the months of planning were worth it in the end! It was a successful experiment that made everyone more than happy. The kids’ faces are proof that Mark’s dream was fulfilled! It was so cool to see them have fun all day long!
