Her parents rushed to the school, demanding answers. They wanted to hold the school accountable for humiliating their daughter in front of everyone.
But the principal continued to defend his decision, explaining there was nothing he could do about it. Soon, he would regret messing with this family. He had no idea who he was dealing with.
The Beginning
That day started like any other day for Nathan and his daughter Jamie. He drove her to school in the morning and then did some grocery shopping. They had just recently moved from Florida, and Jamie started a new term at her new Christian school.
But what the pair didn't know was that the Christian school Jamie was starting had some new rules.
Something Was Wrong
By the end of the school day, little Jamie would be in tears. When Nathan saw his daughter arriving on the school bus, he immediately knew something was wrong.
He looked at her outfit and nearly fainted. What the school staff did to his daughter was not only unacceptable but also illegal.
No Pants
Jamie wasn't wearing her jeans anymore. Nathan brought his daughter home to her mother before driving back to her school. He had never been angrier before.
He wanted to hold the person who did this to her daughter responsible. So, he stormed right into the principal's office, where he was greeted by the principal's assistant. What happened next left him at a loss for words.
Demanding An Explanation
“I asked the assistant principal why my daughter was sent home in just panties and a T-shirt, and she begins to tell me, ‘We thought she had a long enough shirt to be able to put her on the school bus and send her home," Nathan recalls.
But Nathan wasn't about to forget about the incident. He kept on interrogating the woman for a proper explanation.
Confiscated
"Where are my daughter's pants?" he yelled at the assistant. That's when he was told that his daughter's pants had been confiscated.
Nathan knew that Jamie's pants had been long enough to pass the dress code. So what was the problem? How could making his daughter wear only a shirt and panties be better than what she had been wearing?
Ignored
Nathan hoped the principal would explain what had happened to his little girl, but he was simply ignored. Instead, the principal pulled out a copy of the school's rules and a copy of the contract Nathan had signed and handed them to him.
The paragraph that the principal showed Nathan read: “Parents who enroll their children in our school know upfront that we ask the students to adhere to a lifestyle informed by our Christian beliefs.”
The Offending Pants
Nathan was still confused. What did this have to do with his daughter? That's when he was shown the offending pair of pants.
The pants had a colorful rainbow print on them saying: “This is why.” Nathan knew how much his daughter loved rainbows. “What am I looking at?” he shouted, confused.
LGBTQ
“We do not endorse LGBTQ pride,” the principal explained. Nathan was in complete shock. Did the principal really think that making his daughter ride the bus in her panties was better than a rainbow print?
His daughter wasn't part of the community at all. The nine-year-old just loved rainbows.
Calling The School Out
What the school didn't know at the time was that Jamie's father was a bodybuilder with a YouTube following. He used his fame to address the issue of intolerance, something he never expected to find in his daughter's school.
Jamie's clothes were not representing the LGBTQ community. They just featured a rainbow print that Jamie liked. He believed that the way the school health with the issue was wrong and illegal.
Vulnerable
Nathan was most furious about how sending Jamie home in her underwear could have made her more vulnerable to predators.
According to Nathan, he had never seen anything like this at his daughter's previous school. The angry father hired a lawyer to ensure the school paid for what they had done to his little girl. But is he right?
Behind The Closed Doors
This incident made Jamie's parents worry about what else might be going on in the school behind closed doors.
“Now that we come here, we have all these issues. There’s obviously something more going on than what we’re seeing.” But what did other parents think of the situation?
On Their Side
They were all furious, too, and believed the school should have handled things differently. Jamie's mom didn't understand what they didn't call them rather than leave their child to be ashamed the entire day.
“There are four contacts on our daughter’s emergency card. Pick up the phone and call us. We will come to fetch our child,” she said.
In Shock
“They did WHAT!!!! This is unacceptable… someone better be punished if not sued," one person wrote.
"This isn’t something that’s just going to go away this child will be haunted her whole entire life. They should’ve called the parents to come and get her!” But how did the school respond to the story?
The Statement
The school later issued a statement, saying that there were a lot of other options if Jamie's parents had not wanted her to attend a school with Christian values.
