His Father Collected His Remains
With a heavy heart, Hartley’s father collected his son’s body from Liverpool and laid him to rest in Colne on May 18th, 1912. Overwhelmed with grief, roughly 1,000 people attended the funeral, while another staggering crowd of approximately 40,000 lined the streets to pay their respects. It was evident that Hartley had left an indelible mark on those who knew him.
