Survivors Come Forward
Still another survivor from that tragedy had an intriguing opinion about it all: Colonel Archibald Gracie claimed they performed some kind of ‘cheerful’ tunes in spite of the escalating situation, yet he could not recall any particular ones; nevertheless one thing he thought with certainty – none included “Nearer My God To thee”, since according to him, “[I would’ve] regarded it as a tactless warning of immediate death [and] one likely to create panic.”
