Something In The Road
All the reasons not to get out the car and look at the random bag in the middle of the road come flooding in, as if Sally’s body had an allergic reaction. She takes a deep breath and while she feels her anxiety bubble inside her. She turns around to her kids in the back and reassures them, their faces so innocent and so angelic. She steps out and makes her way to the bag, her stomach shifting uneasily.
The stillness of the air seemed to suck even the sound of her footsteps into the nothingness of the road. Even the trees seemed to not rustle, as if they were tense with nerves for what was to come. As she gets closer to the bag, Sally’s breath quickens and an uneasy feeling hits the pit of her stomach.
She Loved Her Children
For Sally Smith, there was nothing she loved more than her children. From the moment they were born she vowed to protect them no matter what. After all, that’s what mothers do right?
But with bills to pay and debt to clear, Sally knew just how much of a financial struggle it can be when you have three kids. But then one day, everything changed for this suburban family. And nothing was ever the same again.
Armed And Dangerous
After visiting the supermarket, Sally started to pack up her groceries with the help of her two kids, when she saw something flicker on the supermarket's television. It was an FBI warning for a man on the run after stealing nearly a million dollars from a bank.
“He is armed, do not approach,” the news anchor said in a stern tone. A feeling of uncertainty crept up Sally’s spine. She had to get out of there.
Singing Along To The Radio
Sally unloaded her bags of shopping into the trunk, fastened her kids’ seatbelt and got into the car, and set off back home. As the car engine sang to the lone country roads, Sally relished the roaring winds that twirled in her long brown hair and whistled in her ears.
She turned up the radio and the family of four sang along to the radio. But little did they know what was coming next.
Slamming The Brakes
Driving along the deserted highway with lights on full beam, Sally watched how the yellowed bright light played in the droplets of the rain.
But then just as her acceleration increased, her heartbeat stopped for a second when she saw something in the middle of the road. She slams the brakes suddenly and stops the car. What was it?

Checking It Out
As she made her way to the bag in the middle of the road, Sally could feel her pulse pounding. She looked back at her kids in the car, they were fine; playing on their gaming tablets.
Sally crouches down towards the bag and rustles it about. Then she opens it up and looks inside.
Running Back To The Car
Her mouth dropped after seeing plastic bags inside, addressed with something that said ‘cash vault’. What was this? What did it mean? She opens the plastic bags and is left lost for words when she sees hundreds of cash bills, tucked inside. Then within a few seconds, she zipped up the bag, picked it up, and raced back to her car.
She takes a look at her kids, who were busy playing games on their gaming tablet. Their faces, so sweet and so oblivious. They had no idea what their mom was up to.
Driving Back Home
As she quickly speeds off back home, all of Sally’s worries seemed to slowly fade away. This money would seriously help her out. She had bills to pay, her youngest daughter’s birthday was coming up and not to mention the debt she’s accumulated in the past few years. She was a mom at the end of the day.
It was her job to do whatever she can to ensure her kids are safe and secure. But little did Sally know she just made a huge mistake.
Stuck At A Red Light
As Sally waits at the traffic lights, she takes a look at the back of her car to see her kids fast asleep. Their faces, so innocent, so angelic. They had no idea what their mom had just done.
But then a feeling of apprehension and shame fills up Sally from the inside. There’s no way she could keep this money.
Had To Do The Right Thing
She turns the car straight around and heads to the police station. She had to hand this money over. It was the best thing to do, right?
She arrives at the station and heads inside, armed with the bag of cash. But what the cops told her next would turn her world upside down.
Truth Is Revealed
The cash and bag Sally found in the road, turned out to be the stolen cash from the bank! It was the same crime she had seen reported in the supermarket not even 4 hours earlier!
Despite the good news, the thief was ultimately still at large. But at least the money was back safe and sound.
