Netflix has been working tirelessly to give subscribers many more viewing options. They upped their original movie budgets to rival some of the major motion picture studios (their most recent addition costing the streaming service $150 million to make!). Netflix can be viewed on our TVs, computers, tablets and smartphones and many of us take great advantage of that. With so many new movies and shows coming to Netflix, it makes sense that they would make room for them by getting rid of some other options.
However, there are shows and movies that are leaving Netflix that we are very sad to see go, and we are sure that you will be too. There are more movies leaving than there are coming onto the platform, but the ones that are making their way onto Netflix are a good combo of originals, as well as past favorites that make us want to stay home on the weekend to see them all. So what is in store for us this coming season on Netflix? Here is everything coming and going on Netflix!
The Witcher stars actor Henry Cavill, formerly of Man of Steel and Justice League. This Netflix original series has Cavill play the role of a monster hunting man called Geralt of Rivia.
The series is based off of the game franchise which was based on a fantasy book series, so this one is clearly a success. The series will follow Geralt's adventures and will obviously include a beautiful princess and a powerful witch both of which have secrets of their own that could change the course of humanity.
John Mulaney, previously a writer for Saturday Night Live and an Emmy-winning comedian in his own right, wrote a holiday-themed Netflix special that he promises fits for all audiences. The description of the show states that it “recapture the magic of that bygone television era when children sang songs about their feelings with celebrity guests on funky outdoor sets.” Mulaney welcomes guest stars on the show, such as Jake Gyllenhaal, Natasha Lyonne, and David Byrne.
This is a refreshing change of pace for Netflix specials since they are mostly way too dirty for kids ears.
One of the more exciting Netflix original movies to come to us is 6 Underground. The movie was directed by Michael Bay, the same man who brought us Armageddon and Pearl Harbor. It stars Ryan Reynolds and a slew of other big names.
The action thriller follows a team of billionaire vigilantes who fake their deaths to get back at some seriously bad guys and remain covert while they do so. This film was the most expensive one in Netflix history, costing $150 million to make.
Austin Powers lovers rejoice! Austin Powers in Goldmember, Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, and Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me are all coming onto Netflix in December. We get to see Mike Myers at his finest, as well as Seth Green, Elizabeth Hurley, and Mindy Sterling, to name a few. The films have become cult classics and have a cross-generational following, meaning even Gen-Zers love them some Dr.
Evil and Mr. Powers. This is the perfect trio to have a movie marathon to.
From Paris with Love has a gangster John Travolta and a wickedly handsome Jonathan Rhys Meyers for our viewing pleasure. The 2010 film focuses on a young guy living in Paris and working in the United States Ambassador's office.
He then links up with an American spy who is in the city to stop a terrorist attack. This duo together, plus a whole lot of action and thrill, make for a fun movie to catch any night of the week.
Thor: Ragnarok is one of the funnier Marvel films focused on Thor. The 2017 film sees Thor imprisoned by a demon who makes him fight his way out of the prison. We are introduced to Thor's sister, played by Cate Blanchett, as well as welcome old friends like Hulk and Loki.
We are sad to see this one go, so make sure to get a viewing in before it leaves Netflix on December 4th. Missing the option of seeing Chris Hemsworth should never be a thing.
Another huge blockbuster leaving Netflix is Star Wars: Episode VIII: The Last Jedi. The 2017 movie from the never-ending (thankfully) series follows Rey as she develops her powers thanks to help from Luke Skywalker. This film is leaving Netflix on December 25th, call it a bad Christmas present.
The new Star Wars film (Rise of Skywalker) is set to come out in theaters a few days before this leaves Netflix, so make it a marathon. You won't get another chance like this one!
Black Hawk Down is one of the most beloved American war films. The Ridley Scott directed film is from 2001 and follows the non-fiction tale by Mark Bowden, a journalist who wrote about the United States' raid on Mogadishu in 1993.
Netflix is saying goodbye to this film on December 31, along with a long list of other films like Billy Elliot, Mona Lisa Smile, Rain Man, The Pink Panther, and all of the Rocky films.
Pulp Fiction is leaving Netflix at the end of the year and taking our artistic hearts along with it. The 1994 cult classic follows two mobster hitmen, a gangster, his wife, and two bandits as we see their lives intertwine in a twisted tale of redemption and violence.
Uma Thurman, John Travolta, and Samuel L. Jackson make this film the hit that it is; not to mention spawning Halloween costume ideas for people everywhere.
