Tips And Tricks To Turn Back The Clock On Aging

Youthful Tricks & Tips

It doesn't have to be a magical fountain of youth.

The truth is, aside from drinking plenty of water and trying to live a healthy lifestyles, there are some small adjustments that can shed years from your face. It's not to say there won't be wrinkles - because they are beautiful too! - rather ways to not add things that add unnecessary years.

The Hair

Everyone knows those poofy grandma perms.

Forge them! There are plenty of haircuts that will not only frame your face, but make you look much younger. And just because someone is older doesn't mean they have to stick to bland cuts and colors. Work with a hair stylist to embrace what you have but just give it a bit of oomph!

Powder Vs. Cream

Unless someone has oily skin, most people should stick to cream products.

And yes, even if someone has great skin at any age, powder product can collect in the crinkles and make wrinkles look deeper than they are. the goal is to glow not to crease. If you can't part with your current matte foundation, you can always add some moisturiser to sheer it down.

Eyelashes Galore

One really great trick is to focus on having some stellar eyelashes.

They give the face a focal point. Start with a good curler, then add some volume booster mascara, and finally add another product that gives length. Side note - be aware that different eye shapes need different areas to go heavy or thin with mascara and eye liner.

Add Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a great supporter for production of collagen and elastin.

These potent serums can be used day and night, but it's very important to make sure you get a formula that works with your skin. Otherwise, you could have sun sensitivity in those areas or even irritation.

Hyaluronic Acid

“Hyaluronic acid (a naturally occurring substance in skin that keeps it hydrated and youthful) absorbs 1,000 times its weight in water and expands, helping to blur fine lines and wrinkles."

Short term, any product with medium and low molecular weight hyaluronic acid will help plump your skin.” — says Dr. Lamees Hamdan, founder and CEO of Shiffa

Careful With Lips

Yes, you can wear color pop! Who says you can't?! However...

Stick to hydrating formulas. This is because as you get older, the lines and wrinkles around the lips can collect color when they're dry. Having something moisturizing on the lips can help plump them out and avoid this age-adding booboo.

Pen Vs. Pencil

Liquid liners can often appear harsh. They  also have the same issues as lipstick on dry lips - the lines can get less-than crisp.

This just looks mucky. Instead switch out to a pencil liner and give it a professional smudge. You can still have a little "flick" at the end too, if you need or love them. Just keep things on the soft side.

Don't Neglect The Neck

Don't only focus on the face.

Treat your neck and décolleté area with the same regime you do the face. Sun damage, wrinkles, and other aging factors can pop up there as easily as the cheeks. So, having a perfect face and a neck that's 20 years older will look odd.

Try Color Correcting

“Green helps areas with redness such as cheeks, under eyes, and nasal folds."

"Apricot cancels the blue-ish color found within the dark circles underneath eye areas.”— says Orlando Santiago, national artistry executive for Guerlain. Get a decent formula too, if you can afford it, rather than the cheapie ones in a discount bin. That doesn't meant you have to shell out tons of money. There are affordable products out there that will work wonders.

Know Your Blush

It's not just knowing if powder blush vs cream blush works better for you.

The "old" way of putting on blush can add years if it's not done properly - because every face shape is different and need blush applied in different places.  The goal is to add it to the apple of the cheeks and spread it out ... not up or down.

Consider Bangs

Long hair can be harder to maintain. But don't go short and curly because grandma did.

Get your stylist to give you some bangs - they can be soft, dramatic, whatever. The idea is to creative a different focal point. Everyone will be staring at those fabulous locks instead of the wrinkles.

Sunscreen!

This might sound like figuratively beating a dead horse by now.

But it really is important! Saving your skin from sun damage is one of the base weapons you have in the fight against aging. Get daily moisturizer that have an SPF and slather it on when you're out at the beach. Stick to SPF 25 or above, broad spectrum (UVA and UVB), unperfumed sunscreen.

Professional Peels

There are varying degrees of chemical peels out there.

Some of harsh and will make someone look like a snake shedding its skin. Others are gentle and better for certain skin types or someone who needs a quick fix. They can peel away years and leave skin glowy and beautiful.

Thicker Brows

No, no one is asking anyone to draw caterpillars on their forehead.

Thin eyebrows can make someone look older because it looks like they're losing their hair in some way. Try to gradually give yourself a thicker eyebrow than you normally have. Find the sweet spot or get a cosmetician to suggest a good shape.
