She's A Relatable Royal, But The Cost Of Her Outfits Tells A Different Story

Fashion Forward

There’s no doubt about it, over the past few years, Kate Middleton has become a style icon. Thousands of women look to the Duchess for her fierce and fabulous fashion choices. Although she’s known for her frugal approach to fashion, she has admittedly splurged on several wallet-heavy outfits. After all, if a woman is personally being given designer clothes, by the designer themselves, she’s going to take the clothes! It’s only science.

Now, imagine if you could take a sneak around the duchess’s closet. Think of all the fashion and jaw-dropping gems you’d find! A row dedicated to Alexander McQueen definitely, and for sure boxes and boxes of Chanel and Gucci. But as iconic as these fashion pieces may be, they come with a hefty price tag.

One Night In Paris

Paris. The city of romance. The place where cigarette smoke lingers in the air, fashion rules the streets, and kitten heels and sliders are the devil's work.

Whenever you go to Paris you have to ensure you’re dressed your best. So when Kate visited the city back in 2016, she broke out in a classic Chanel ensemble priced at a whopping $10,000. Hmmm. Put a deposit down on your dream house or dress like a duchess? It’s a decision we all have to make.

What Would The Queen Say?

What would you wear if you were about to take a stroll with the Queen? A pair of jeans and sneakers wouldn’t suffice, and you most definitely wouldn’t dare whip out that little black dress!

Well for Kate, she knew exactly how to keep her outfit Queen friendly, while still looking as stylish and fabulous as ever; when in 2016 she attended a flower show with the Queen. The stunning ankle-length Erdem floral print dress was perfect for the warm summer crisp day. And worth every single penny of its $4,800 price tag, right?

BBQ Ready

For a garden party - a BBQ to non-royals - what are the essentials? A well-working BBQ? Dips and snacks? An endless flow of ice-cold beverages? What about a $3,000 dress?

For normal folk like us, we wouldn’t even want to spend that much on a garden party let alone a dress! But back in 2017, for an event honoring the Queen, Kate sported a stunning dress with a price tag of just over $3,000. That’s way more than we would ever spend on a dress, but then again we aren’t duchesses.

Pretty In Pregnant

If you’ve been pregnant, what’s been your go-to pregnancy attire? Sweatpants? Baggy vests? A tub of cookie dough ice cream? A jar of pickles? What about a bright and bold designer yellow coat priced at a pretty $1,700?

Well, back in 2013 when Kate attended the Queen's annual garden party at Buckingham Palace, she rocked up the party wearing an Emilia Wickstead silk coat, featuring an abstract yellow and white pattern. At the time she was pregnant with Prince George, and she effortlessly showed people that you can still look fabulous even when you’re seven months pregnant!

Rolling Out To The Races

In the UK, the Royal Ascot horse races are like a national holiday. People, dressed head to toe in their stylish and finest fashions, come from all over the country to sit and watch horses race... Fair enough, the event itself it’s exactly thrilling and luxurious, but the fashion sure is!

Back in 2014, Kate rocked a stunning lace dress with an accompanying fascinator and she sure did look fabulous! But the price of this legendary look? $4,000. Wow.

The Legendary LBD

Everyone woman has one and everyone woman needs one. The iconic little black dress that we all keep in the back of our closets, is forever a staple piece that will stand the test of time.

But even the Royals’ whip out their little black dresses occasionally. And Kate Middleton is no stranger to a gorgeous LBD. We’re pretty sure she’s got a ton of them hanging in her wardrobe, but this one, priced at $6,000 is definitely the most beautiful LBD we have ever seen!

A Fashion Disaster?

When you’re a style icon like Kate, you make your own fashion rules right? Even if that means donning a blouse backward.

Yes, you heard that right, back in 2018 Kate blew up the internet when she wore this purple Gucci blouse backward. We will never know if she did it accidentally or on purpose. Either way, it just makes her that little bit more relatable, right?

A Change In Style

By far one of her most iconic fashion moments ever, Kate’s Gucci dress was not like anything the duchess had ever worn before. It was bright and bold; retro and groovy. It was a far cry from the reserved and pastel tones Britons adorned her for.

But people change. And if this standout fashion moment, priced at a whopping $2,400, shows anything, change is absolutely good!

Military Chic

For normal folk like us, when you pay a hefty amount for a piece of clothing, you want to make sure you get your money's worth right? So you wear them. Again. And again. And again.

For Kate, she thinks the same. She’s reworn this beautiful red military-style jacket a few times, and with it priced at $1,020 we can definitely see why!

A Loyal Customer

Ever wondered who Kate’s favorite fashion design house is? Gucci? Prada? Chanel? Well, the Duchess herself has admitted her go-to-designer is none other than iconic Alexander McQueen.

In fact, she loves the design house that much, she’s often seen sporting their designs from time to time. Pictured is the stunning red and white tiered dress which she so effortlessly pulled off, back in 2016 when she toured Canada. But this stunning dress comes at a price: $5,000 in fact.

I Do

It’s the day every little girl dreams off; your wedding day is supposed to be the happiest day of your life, right? Even if that means hefting out on a chunky sum for a dress? Well, what about a mere $332,000?

For Kate, she had no problem with that! The dress in question was a stunning lace gown designed by Alexander McQueen. And it was well worth the price tag, as people worldwide were in complete awe of the dress.

We Stand Together

With the coronavirus pandemic taking full force, in April 2020 we all stood together and showed our support of health care workers by clapping for them.

In the UK, citizens clapped for the NHS working during the pandemic. And the duchess was one of these thousands of people. Standing outside her home with her family, she looked gorgeous wearing a blue floral dress by Ghost. The color was also a nod to the NHS.

From Bride To Bridesmaid

Back in 2011, Pippa Middleton turned heads at her sister Kate’s wedding. So it was only right, that Kate does the same for Pippa’s wedding. And she sure did!

Stepping out Chanel, the media went wild for Kate’s outfit and priced at a solid $14,000, they have every right to. To think, this was just a bridesmaid dress! We can’t imagine the price of the actual bride’s dress...

A Style Icon

Wow, what a woman! And what an amount of cash to be spent on clothes! But just because Kate’s spent a fair few amount over the past few years on fashion, she’s proven she’s not flashy about it. She’s not posting a selfie of her wearing $10,000 earrings to Instagram, instead, she’s turning up to events wearing a dress she wore just a mere month ago. We all know Kate loves to rewear her clothing, and we love her for it!

So, we’re just going to say that the Duchess Of Cambridge; Kate herself, doesn’t just purchase clothing, she invests in clothing. That sounds a lot better, right?
