The next day, Stephanie packed all her things, got on a bus, and left Detroit for good.
She was heading for Austin, Texas. At least there, the ghosts of her past wouldn’t be able to haunt her.
She would be able to offer her child a normal life, which was much more than she had. But a few months down the line, she would be stuck with a debt she never saw coming.
