Couple Finds A Secret Dungeon Behind A Bookshelf

Bizarre Hideout

A couple bought a house in Logan, Utah. At first, it looked like any other house in the neighbourhood. Quaint and homely.

And then they stumbled into the secret the house was hiding. A bizarre hideout that left the couple stunned.

Not What They Expect

When a new homeowner discovers something not mentioned in the property listing, it is usually a nice surprise. However, that was not the case for a Utah couple.

After discovering a hidden torture dungeon with her husband, Reddit member u/gundam2017 published the story on the platform. "I had to see what's going on," she said, posting pictures of her find.

Odd Looking Bookshelf

The couple were completely caught off-guard. It would have gone unnoticed if the mother of two had decided not to move an "odd" looking bookshelf.

She soon realised, however, that the storage unit was fastened on and concealing a secret door — which she had no idea existed.

Spooky Chair

The secret door opened into a room that looked spooky. And inside the room were things even more questionable.

At the centre of the room, there was a lone chair. Just one chair and no other furniture. What made it even stranger were the walls lined up with objects. What were they?

Beyond The Wall

The new resident noted that the room "hadn't been listed on the listing" of the 1978 property, which had left her perplexed by the strange finding.

She posted creepy photos of herself opening the bookcase on Reddit, before revealing the eerie dungeon lying beyond the wall.

Concrete Room

The photograph, which appears to have been taken with a night vision camera, depicts a concrete room with only one fold-out chair chillingly set up within.

Other items can be seen strewn about the hidey-hole, leaving anyone confused as to the purpose of the eerie underground room.

Curiosity

The lady was confused but more than that she was curious. She wanted to check the room again with lights on.

The room was well facilitated. It had dedicated lights and power.

Bids On The House

The couple had only known about the room after inspecting and purchasing their new home.

She claimed there were five other bids on the house, implying that other house searchers were unaware of the hidden area, although she "doubts it terrified anyone."

Thick Walls

She stated that there were no records of the secret room's construction and that it was buried "nearly 3ft of concrete" beneath the back porch.

She believed that similar to the roof the walls could be 3ft thick concrete. This can make one’s mind cook up any kind of strange conclusions.

Speculations

Many Redditors presented their derivatives of the situation. Some even fear it to be a serial killer’s bunker.

One user left a comment under the post, “Fun new home DIY project: search missing persons cases in the area and trying to determine which of them was tortured in your new home!”

Fear

Guesses and speculations flew around the comment sections. Someone added, “I got the absolute HEEBIEST of jeebies looking at this place. Glad I’m not the only one.”

“That chair makes it look like someone was tortured in there…other than that super cool! Best of luck with your haunted hidden room!”

Explanation

Thankfully a user finally provided an explanation to this mysterious and strange room.

They claimed that this house previously belonged to one of their relatives.

Panic Room

They commented that they knew the house and that it belonged to his wife’s grandparents.

It was actually a panic room and not a ‘torture dungeon’ built by some psycho murderer as some had thought. Phew!

Pet Project

To further make it more clearly, he said that it wasn’t old. The panic room was actually built very recently, almost around 8 years ago.

But rather than using the room as a panic room, the room was more of a pet project for the grandfather of his wife.

Renovation

The house owners felt relieved knowing this. And the explanation seemed very plausible considering that the room was quite updated.

The woman is planning on taking the advantage of low temperature in the ‘dungeon’ and converting it into a gym. Well, that’s not a bad idea. Definitely better than a ‘torture dungeon’.
