Treasure Hunting
Treasure hunting is no longer just for pirates; many individuals like spending their leisure time looking for long-lost treasures lying deep beneath the ground.
When one couple was enjoying their favourite hobby, they discovered something that would not only leave them speechless but would also change their lives forever.
Jackpot
Ryan and Lisa went treasure hunting quite often. It was their favourite thing to do in their spare time. Ryan was a pastor at a local community church. Taking time out from their work the couple enjoyed their adventure.
During one such adventure, their metal detector began beeping continuously. It was then they knew they had hit the jackpot.
Excitement
They weren't expecting to find anything big, especially, Lisa. They started digging up the location where the metal detector had pointed.
As they got closer to revealing the treasure, the air thickened with excitement.
False Alarm
They had their doubts too. Many a time they had high hopes with the diggings but they would be mostly something small, like a nail or a coin.
They weren't going to get their hopes up because they knew a false alarm was possible.
Old Coin
As Ryan began to dig, they thought they might as well come upon something valuable. The first thing they discovered was an old coin going back to the 1800s. This was a once-in-a-lifetime find, and they couldn't believe their good fortune.
However, this was not the only thing they discovered.
A Piece Of History
They didn't know how much the coin was worth or whether it was worth anything at all, but they didn't care. They held a piece of American history in their hands, which was thrilling in and of itself.
They decided to keep travelling and explore more areas to see if they could find anything else. Things were about to get a lot more interesting.
Another Treasure
Lisa was clutching the penny as if it were a lucky charm. With the coin in hand, she moved along with the metal detector. As she flipped it around in her hand they heard the loud beeps again.
They had discovered yet another treasure. They were brimming with excitement as they continued digging.
Something Big
They felt it was something much bigger than the previous discovery this time. Lisa began jumping as Ryan proceeded to unearth their latest find.
He requested her to record this time. He had a feeling that this was going to be something amazing.
Worth The Effort
The treasure was buried deep beneath a medium-sized rock. They knew it wouldn't be easy to remove the rock and get the valuables. But it would be well worth the effort.
They reasoned that because it was buried beneath a rock, whatever it was must have been precious, and they were correct.
Hit Something Hard
They started digging and heaving the rock up. Ryan continued the digging and exclaimed mid-work, "This could be the find of a lifetime!"
The digging was taking a lot out of Ryan. Lisa asked him to be careful. After some more digging, his shovel hit something hard with a sound.
A Wooden Box
When they got to the object's surface, they saw it was some kind of wooden box. They didn't know how ancient it was, but they were hopeful it held something remarkable on the inside.
They brushed the dirt off from the box. Then they started opening it carefully.
Memories Hidden Away
When someone buries a box, it usually contains mementoes such as photographs, letters, and other items that remind them of happy memories. They understood someone wanted to keep whatever was inside safe.
They felt privileged to have discovered it. Lisa had no idea she was in for the surprise of a lifetime.
Bible Verses
When they removed the lid, the first thing they saw was that the box contained letters. Lisa gasped in amazement as Ryan began to read them aloud. They were actually bible verses!
Ryan always carried a bible with him. He flipped through the pages and there it was. Verse Matthew 13.44.
No Conicidence
Ryan read "The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field."
The next verse was, "He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord." Lisa began to suspect that this was not just a coincidence. Right then pulled out a small box and kneeled in front of her.
Surprise Proposal
Sitting inside the box was a beautiful ring. It all made sense now. Ryan was proposing to Lisa. He went out to say the sweetest proposal, "Lisa, you’re the treasure that I found in a field, and I want to give over everything that I have so that I can have you."
Lisa, of course, said yes! She couldn't put her head around what had just happened, giddy with love and joy. The best surprise and proposal ever.
