Ripples
It was becoming increasingly difficult to see. Everything appeared to be the same. Remy's name resonated through the cornfields like a tragic song's chorus.
One by one, the torches began to dim. People were vanishing. The sun rose soon after, and the horrifying sight that awaited Timberlyn sent ripples throughout the village.
Saturday Activities
There was nothing out of the usual on that Saturday, except for the fact that it was that afternoon where Timberlyn Merrit's life took a turn for the worst.
It was a beautiful day, the sun was bright and the sky was cloudless. Timberlyn was out gardening on that sunny Saturday. Sweat dripped from her forehead as she planted her new flowers.
Daughter
Timberlyn's 3-year-old daughter, Remy, was playing with her dolls underneath a tree. As that day was so scorching hot, Timberlyn got up and asked, “Do you want a drink, honey?". She didn't want her daughter to be dehydrated!
Remy ecstatically shook her head up and down and Timberlyn smiled at her daughters' reaction. She walked inside to go grab them both some water, and she was barely gone for a second. She had no idea that all it took was a split second for disaster to strike.
Where Did She Go
Timberlyn returned with two ice-cold cups of water, but when she stepped outside her heart dropped. Her daughters' dolls were still underneath the tree, but she was not. Timberlyn knew that something wasn't right and started looking around the yard for Remy.
She searched for what felt like hours, but she could not find her daughter. She ran inside the house and dialed 911. She couldn't control her tears as she yelled into the phone, “I can’t find her anywhere!”.
Their Dog
Timberlyn couldn't sit still. She wished help would arrive sooner. While she impatiently waited, she noticed something else was gone, her Yorkie named Heath!
Heath and Remy were inseparable. When they visited the shelter, Heath immediately ran to Remy and Timberlyn knew that that was the dog for them. She instantly thought that the two were lost together, but she was completely unaware of what was going to happen next...
Unaware
Their residence was in the city's outskirts, surrounded by vast cornfields. A massive woodland and mountain range was only 2 miles away from their home.
She did not know where to even begin looking. Without much thought, Timberlyn made her way to the nearest cornfield. The corn stalks were nearly as tall as she was. She yelled for Remy, completely ignorant of the perils that surrounded her.
Dangerous Area
She called out to Remy numerous times. When she received no response, she began to feel hopeless. Her screams boomed throughout the cornfield. The only sound she could hear was the rustling of leaves and the howling of the wind.
The sun was starting to set and she knew the longer Remy was missing, the more danger her poor daughter would be in. Darkness wasn't the only threat that was looming over the cornfields...
Threats
Bears, coyotes, and dangerous people were known to roam the area. Timberlyn prayed that Heath would protect her daughter from the dangers of the night.
The news of Remy's disappearance spread like wildfire, and neighbors rallied up to join Timberlyn's search for her daughter. More than a hundred individuals showed up to assist, but darkness quickly descended on the region. Two days went by with no trace of Remy or Heath.
No Sign Of Them
The search for them did not slow down on the third night. Timberlyn and her neighbors were searching high and low for Remy in the woods and cornfields. The sky was pitch black and they were surrounded by 8-feet-high stalks, but they persisted. Their torches lit up the vegetation as they continued their search.
The darkness made it harder for everyone to see, and it did not help that each section of the cornfield looked identical to the next. Remy's name boomed through the area.
Time To Go Home
Not long after, the sun started to rise. People had been searching all night long and it was time to get some sleep.
Timberlyn felt hopeless as there was still no sign of her daughter. But on the third cornfield, she suddenly heard an odd sound.
Strange Sound
She followed the curious sounds. It was distant and muffled. She continued to follow it. Closer and closer, step by step until she could make it out. It was barking. Her heart leaped.
She raced towards it, hoping to find her missing dog, Heath. But what she found left the whole world stunned.
Found Her!
After an agonizing 12-hour search, Timberlyn followed the sound of barking and found Remy fast asleep, clutching onto her best friend, Heath.
She was lying on the ground near a row of large grain silos half a mile from her house. Heath stopped barking once Timberlyn appeared but she still didn’t move. She acted fast.
Unbelievable
Timberlyn couldn’t believe what she was seeing. She quickly grabbed out her phone and took a picture of the pair before diving to her daughter's aid.
She woke her up from her slumber and hugged her tight. Apart from being dirty and a little sweaty from the heat, she was perfectly fine. She sent the picture to the online search community and then something completely unexpected happened.
Viral Post
Once the law enforcement saw the remarkable images, they asked her if they could share the photo on their social media account.
With permission, they wrote the caption, “This is what #Community looks like. Law enforcement, 1st Responders, and community volunteers coming together to find a missing child. Her dog stayed by her side all night. #StrongerTogether”.
An Amazing Hero
The post went viral! Remy and Heath were brought safely home. And Heath continued to feature in a people's social media account, being the amazing hero that saved the day.
We’ve heard of plenty of stories about dogs doing miraculous things but this one takes the cake. What a wonderful gift Heath is to Remy and her family!
