Immigrants Run Into Store Asking For Help, Cops Act Quickly

"I Need Help"

The two officers from Kentucky barely had time to settle into their shift when a frantic young father approached them. At first, they were on their guard.

Then the cops realized the young man was desperately in need of help. They could barely understand his broken English, but they followed him anyway. What they had to face would change their lives forever.

The Beginning Of Patrol

Officers Nick Greene and Noah Cole of the Louisville Metro Police Department in Kentucky had barely started their shift that day when they were approached by a desperate young man.

Their day was usually uneventful, with the rare occasion when something happened. This was one of those occasions. They had to put all their knowledge into practice and save the day.

Longtime Partners

Nick Greene and Noah Cole were longtime partners and friends. They enjoyed patrolling together, and they always had each other's back.

But when they were confronted by this young father, their approach to their job would be put to the test. Would they manage to do the right thing once again? Or would they leave it to someone else?

Visiting Stores In The Area

The two cops began each shift by visiting local businesses and speaking to the owners, so the two were at a Shorty's convenience store in Louisville when the man came in saying something was wrong.

At first, the two didn't understand what he was saying because he spoke Spanish, but judging by his expression, things didn't look well.

A Young Man Comes In

When the young father walked in shouting, asking for help, the two cops tried to calm him down and understand the situation better. They were taken aback by his sudden appearance.

He kept saying something in Spanish and desperately trying to get the officers to follow him to his car. They had no idea what to do. What if it was a trap?

Language Barrier

The officers wanted to help, but there was one big problem. They couldn't understand what he was saying. The young man was speaking mostly in Spanish.

They looked around, trying to find someone to translate, but the man became more and more desperate. They needed to act now. There was no time to hesitate. So they finally came to a consensus.

In Trouble

The two cops finally understood that the father was in big trouble and that he needed help for his baby.

Officer Greene, a father himself, couldn't understand everything the man was saying, but he caught enough. He said my baby's 'No bueno,' which means, 'My baby is no good.' The officer realized that things were about to get serious.

Following Him

The two officers just ran outside and saw what the exact situation was. What was the problem that the young man had?

As the two cops approached the man's car, they could see the situation was indeed dire. They began rushing toward the vehicle, only to find a terrible scene. The father was still freaking out while they were trying to solve the situation.

A Woman And A Baby

When the two cops reached the car, they noticed that there was someone in there. A mother was in the backseat with a baby. The woman was crying hysterically.

It didn't take long before the mother handed them the baby. It was only 7 days old, and it obviously needed help. What exactly had happened with the child?

Quick Action

The two cops didn't wait too long. The scene unfolding before their eyes was terrible, and a life depended on their next move.

What the officers did next would change the course of the two young parents' lives forever. And nothing would ever be the same for the two cops either. Experiences like that don't come often in the line of duty.

Lifeless

The two cops noticed that the baby was in the mother's hands and was lifeless at that point. They had to act quickly, or who knows what would happen.

The officers took the baby and assessed the situation. They quickly came up with a great plan to deal with the terrible situation at hand. Would it work in time, though?

A Plan

One of the cops tried to key up the radio, but he couldn't do that, so his partner Cole did all the talking on the radio while he tried to perform CPR on the baby.

He couldn't talk on the radio, but when he heard the baby come back crying after performing CPR, the cop was like, 'Oh, we got it, we got it.' Things were looking well from that point.

Screaming

When the baby started screaming and whining, the cop realized that there was oxygen getting to the brain, so the difficult part seemed to be over.

Hearing the baby screaming and realizing that she was breathing was amazing for the two officers, as well as the young parents. That was the ultimate sign of relief. Nothing could have gone better.

Backup

Thanks to Cole's quick work, backup soon arrived. EMS checked out the infant, and she was transported to the hospital for further monitoring.

The baby, named Emma, was barely a week old, and the officers didn't know what caused her to stop breathing. According to what the family told the department, though, she was brought home again and was doing well.

In The Right Place At The Right Time

It's impossible to know if the officers were just in the right place at the right time or if the terrified parents were specifically looking for them, but Greene guessed that they must have seen the police cars parked out front of the convenience store and turned in for help.

Greene and Cole stressed that this life-saving interaction was just another day on the job.
