With how amazing movies can be they can often make a fortune just on their opening night. But history has shown us that the box office often isn't kind to R-rated movies.
Among the 50 highest-grossing movies of all time, only 3 are R-rating films. The fact that only adults can watch them often means that they don't appeal to a wider audience like most other movies.

Air Force one made some serious money at the box office when it hit theatres in 1997. Harrison Ford stars in this R-rated film where the president is set upon by terrorists.
The hijacking of the plane forces the president to roll up his sleeves and get hands-on with the baddies. The film raked in 173 million dollars.
Us
"Us" is a relatively new movie on this list. It's about doppelgangers of a family who terrorize them. The director also directed "Get Out" a few years before.
Jordan Peele's genius showed in this film and it ended up being the highest-grossing film of 2019 and got a whopping 94% on Rotten Tomatoes.
