Mom Turns Back On Baby For One Second, Regrets It Immediately

Their Little Angel

The couple took their son to the emergency room as fast as possible. The baby’s evaluation soon came out, but the news was the worst the two could’ve ever imagined.

She sat beside her husband as the doctor shared what was happening to their angel. But as much as she tried to listen, all she could hear was a loud buzzing inside her head because of worry.

Their First Son

When Taylor and Jeff had their first son, Brian, they were more than glad that their family was finally growing.

They’d been trying to get pregnant for more than a year now, and they couldn’t contain their joy when it finally happened. Brian was soon born, but such a happy occasion would soon turn tearful.

A Big Family

Taylor and Jeff had always wanted a big family. Even before they got married, they’d always discussed having many kids that would fill up their home.

By the time they got married, they’d settled on having five to six children. Although the prospect presented a chaotic reality, the couple was ready to meet it head-on.

The Perfect Son

A year after their marriage, Taylor and Jeff got pregnant with their first kid, a beautiful baby boy named Brian.

Brian was the perfect son to Taylor and Jeff. He was active and always smiling, with the intelligence and baby charm to make any parent proud. But it wouldn’t be long before all this changed.

A Bright Sunday Afternoon

It was a bright Sunday afternoon when it happened. Jeff was downstairs working on a passion project, and Taylor was hanging out with Brian in their bedroom.

Brian had been active since early that morning, and Taylor knew she needed to put him to bed for the rest of the day. After feeding and bathing him, she set him on her bed and turned for a second. That’s when it happened.

A Split Second

Taylor had turned for a split second, looking to fetch a diaper for her son, when she heard a soft thud on the carpet. She whirled around to find Brian on the floor, a look of confusion on his face before he burst out crying.

Taylor rushed and picked him up, seeing that he’d hit his head. She gently rubbed the bump while lulling Brian until he kept quiet. But then she did the worst possible thing at that moment.

Diffusing The Situation

Taylor lulled Brian until he kept quiet and began smiling and cooing. Jeff came to see what was happening, and she quickly explained the situation.

The parents put Brian to sleep, and against her better judgment, Taylor convinced herself that the little boy was okay. If only she knew what was happening.

A Dark Night

A loud shriek from Brian woke her up later that night. She jolted upright and tore to his crib, finding the baby crying bitterly. The slight bump from earlier had grown bigger.

Taylor screamed to Jeff, who came running. He took one look at the baby and dashed for some coats and their phones. Were they too late?

The Emergency Room

The couple took Brian to the emergency room as fast as possible. The baby’s evaluation soon came out, but the news was the worst the two could’ve ever imagined.

Taylor sat beside Jeff as the doctor told her what was happening to her angel. But as much as she tried to listen, all she could hear was a loud buzzing inside her head because of worry.

Her Wish

She’d expected and even wished for the doctor to say Brian’s injury was a simple bump and that he’d be fine. But the news was far grimmer.

“Brian fractured his skull and has bled half of his entire blood volume into his brain,” the doctor read the MRI report in his hands. Although he continued talking afterward, the pain within Taylor muted everything else he said.

The Best Thing In Their Lives

The days after the visit to the hospital were the worst for Taylor and Jeff. They’d worked so hard to build everything they had, and with Brian, all the struggle had felt worthwhile.

He was the best thing in their life, and now they weren’t sure if he would be alright. They’d checked Brian into the hospital before leaving, and with each second that passed, the grueling pain of not being by his side ate them alive.

The Hospital

A week passed with Brian still in the hospital. Taylor and Jeff would spend as much time with him, only leaving for brief showers and work. The reality was that their son’s condition kept them on edge.

The hospital was still running its scans and discerning the best treatment path for Brian. But each time Taylor would ask if her son would be fine, they gave the worst answer.

Dread

“We are doing everything we can,” the doctors said. But these words only made the dread coursing through Taylor’s veins double.

When the final report on Brian’s health returned, she wasn’t sure if her baby would make it. She wasn’t sure if he’d be paralyzed either physically or mentally. She broke down while considering all these possibilities. As a mom, what could she do?

Heartbreaking

After helping Taylor and Jeff get acclimated to his treatment regimen, the hospital discharged Brian. They included a new diet, physical therapy, and several activities that would help his mind stay active.

But although Taylor and Jeff, with the help of their families, would do all they could to help their beloved son recover, he’d sadly succumb to his condition. Taylor knew what she needed to do.

Their First

Broken by the loss of her son, Taylor knew she had to share her story. Perhaps she could prevent other moms from going through the hell she’d been through. Her story gained traction on social media, and many people came to grieve with her family.

With time, the pain of losing Brian would let off, although she still misses him with each passing second. Although she and Jeff would have the big family they always talked about, they’d never forget the little boy who was their first.
