Baby Abandoned In Burger King Bathroom Reunites With Her Birth Mother 27 Years Later

What started as an ordinary day for the Burger King staff quickly turned into a nightmare when they found an abandoned newborn baby in the bathroom.

After 27 years, Katheryn Deprill reunited with her birth mother, who abandoned her in the bathroom stall. So, what made her do this to her own child?

A Newborn Baby

On September 15th, 1986, the employees heard a strange sound coming from the bathroom. When the manager opened the door, she saw a newborn baby lying on the floor.

She was speechless. How could someone abandon their own child?

Calling An Ambulance

The baby girl was lying under the sink, wrapped in a thin, tattered sweater. There was no mother in sight, so the manager called an ambulance and police.

The worst of all, the newborn looked no older than a few hours old. They figured that her mother abandoned her after giving birth in the bathroom stall.

3 Hours Old

The medical professionals confirmed that the girl was no older than three hours. Luckily, she was healthy and didn't suffer any injuries.

However, her future was uncertain. With no mother in sight, no one knew what was going to happen to her.

All Alone

The police attempted to track down the person who abandoned the little girl, but all their efforts went in vain.

One police officer recalled saying, "Right now, we're the only thing this kid's got in terms of a family." So, where was she taken after?

Giving Up For Adoption

The authorities couldn't locate the baby's mother. With that, the police had no other choice but to give her up for adoption.

A few months later, Brenda and Carl Hollins adopted the little girl after hearing about her sad story from the news report. They named her Katheryn, and the girl spent the first 12 years of her life thinking that Brenda and Carl were her birth parents.

Time To Tell Her The Truth

When Katheryn turned 12, the couple decided it was time for them to tell her the truth. However, they chose not to tell her that she was abandoned in the bathroom.

So, how did she react to the news?

The Heavy News

When Carl and Brenda broke the heavy news to their daughter, they also showed her an album of the press clippings. After learning that she was adopted, Katheryn said, "I would never want to replace my adopted family."

"But being adopted, a part of you is missing, and unless you've been adopted, you just don't understand that." When she was 27, she decided to find her biological parents and find out why they abandoned her. And soon, she got the chance to meet her birth mother.

Burger King Baby Deprill

Katheryn created a Facebook page called  "Burger King Baby Deprill," where she shared her story in hopes of finding her birth parents.

Her post quickly went viral, and soon, she received the message she had been waiting for.

Her Mother Reached Out

A woman called Cathy Pochek sent her a message explaining that she was her birth mother.

In her message, Cathy expressed how horrible she felt for abandoning her and how she wished she could've kept her. However, she didn't have another choice back then. So, what happened on that day 27 years ago?

A Devastating Story

Cathy was sexually assaulted when she was 16 years old and got pregnant. She couldn't bring herself to tell her parents the truth and did something she would regret for the rest of her life.

Being a teenager, Cathy knew she couldn't raise a baby on her own, so she decided to leave her in a public place where she would be found quickly.

Parting Ways

After giving birth alone in a Burger King bathroom, Cathy kissed her daughter on the forehead and rushed outside.

After hearing about her birth mother's devastating story, Katheryn's opinion of her had changed. Did she forgive her?

 A Second Chance

As a mother herself, Katheryn knew how difficult raising a child is and how fear and trauma can affect your decision-making.

So, she decided to give Cathy a second chance and get to know her better. And it wasn't long before she got an opportunity to meet her.

The Reunion

Katheryn, Cathy, and Brenda were invited for an interview at NBC's Today to share their emotional story.

As it turned out, Kathryn and Cathy shared a few amusing similarities. For instance, they own the exact same car, and they both work as EMTs. Katheryn also found out that her biological mother knew her husband!

A New Beginning

Cathy was her husband's nanny! Katheryn couldn't believe what she was hearing. Fate brought them together for a very special reason - to finally get to know eachother.

Katheryn wants people to know that she doesn't hold any grudges against her birth mother, "I want her to know that I am not mad at her for what she did, however, I have so many questions to ask her and also to start a relationship with my biological mother."
