All the Movie Sequels We Have Been Waiting For - Coming Out In 2020

Ever watched a movie and wondered what happens next? For over two hours you are invested in the lives of the characters and then the movie ends, the credits roll, and your left wondering — is that all? The movie can't be over. There has to be more. Many movies can leave you guessing with a cliffhanger that has you reeling if there's going to be a sequel to your favorite movies.  You don't have to wonder any longer.

Some of your favorite movies are coming out with sequels to hopefully answer all of your questions. Three of the movies star Keanu Reeves, which gives us the answer to whether Bill and Ted are still Wyld Stallyns! Also, what happened to Maverick? Here's a list of the most anticipated sequels coming out this year and beyond.

Originally scheduled to come out this month, A Quiet Place 2, has been rescheduled so that everyone can watch together, according to Director/Writer/Actor John Krasinski.

The sequel to the acclaimed film, will continue to follow the Abbott Family with Emily Blunt, John Krasinski, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe, reprising their roles.  The family will begin to venture away from their homes and will meet new characters as they try to survive the monsters who hunt using only sound.

In the second installment of the franchise, Wonder Woman 1984 is set to hit theaters on June 5, 2020. Directed by Patty Jenkins, this film will follow Wonder Woman, or Diana Prince, during the Cold War of the 1980s.

Gal Gadot will reprise her role as the superhero and Chris Pine will return as her love interest, Steve Trevor, although he was presumed dead in the first film.  Wonder Woman will meet two enemies in this film, Max Lord, played by Pedro Pascal, and The Cheetah, portrayed by Kristen Wiig. Fans of the DC Comics universe have been waiting a few years for the second installment, as the first one was met with rave reviews.

Cult fans of this horror classic from 1992 will not be disappointed in this “spiritual sequel” that is produced by Jordan Peele. Peele was a fan of the original and has Tony Todd reprising his role as the hooked killer. Set in the Cabrini-Green neighborhood where the legend began, the film will follow Anthony McCoy, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, the baby kidnapped and used as bait by the Candyman.  Vanessa Williams will reprise her role as Anthony's mother, Ann-Marie McCoy.

Fans will also find the return of the character of Helen Lyle, played by Cassie Kramer, who was killed in the last movie and turned into a sort of candy woman. Peele states this sequel will not disappoint cult fans as it will follow the same themes as the original.

This film has been long awaited since the original came out in 1986. Maverick will bring back Tom Cruise as the titular character who tries to prove that old-fashioned pilots are still important, even in todays world of technology.  This sequel will come out June 26, 2020, and will not only bring back Cruise, but also Val Kilmer, as the Iceman.

Other actors in this film will be Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, and Miles Teller, who will play Goose's son.

Who doesn't love a minion movie? In this sequel, set to come out July 3, 2020, viewers will learn the beginnings of Gru. This animated film will be set in the 70s, where a young Gru, reprised by Steve Carell, hatches a plan to be like his favorite super villain group, Vicious 6.  He enlists the help of the minions, voiced by Pierre Coffin, who help him build his first lair, experiment with weapons, and go on his first missions.

If this movie is like the last, it will sure to not disappoint. Banana!

When there's something strange, in the neighborhood, who are you going to call if you don't know who the Ghostbusters are? In this sequel to the original Ghostbusters films, not to be confused with the all female cast version, a single mom and her two kids will learn the legacy their grandfather left behind as strange things begin to happen in their small town. The film is directed by Jason Reitman, whose father directed the original films, so there is high hope for this sequel.  According to IMDB, the original, living Ghostbusters played by Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson, and other loveable original characters will be reprising their roles.

Also in the film are Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) and McKenna Grace (Young Sheldon) who play the two kids, who are possibly relatives of Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis), as shown in the trailer. This sequel has been long awaited overdue and I can't wait to call on the Ghostbusters again on July 10, 2020.

If you've never read the Beatrix Potter stories about Peter Rabbit, then you missed out. Peter Rabbit is a mischievous rabbit that made his theatrical debut in 2018 and voiced by James Corden.  In this sequel, Peter can't hold back his mischievous side and ventures outside the garden while Bea (Rose Byrne) and Thomas (Domnhall Gleeson) are on their honeymoon. While on his adventure, he realizes that being mischievous is appreciated in the real world.

When his family goes out to look for him, Peter must decide who he wants to be. The Runaway will hop into theaters August 7, 2020.

This may be one of the most exciting sequels to hit theaters this year. Set about 30 years after the last Bill and Ted adventure, finds Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter reprising their roles as Bill S. Preston and Ted 'Theodore' Logan respectively.  They are adults now, with kids of their own, and a visitor from the future warns them that they must write a song to save the universe.

With the help from family, some old friends, and music legends, can the Wyld Stallyns save the world yet again? We'll all find out on August 21, 2020.

In the sequel to Murder on the Orient Express, Detective Hercule Poirot, portrayed by Kenneth Branagh, finds himself in the midst of a murder mystery while on a riverboat on the Nile River.  Based on the Agatha Christie novel, Poirot will again meet some interesting characters played by Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer, and Annette Bening.

You can cruise down the Nile with Detective Poirot on October 9, 2020.

From the success of the 2018 sequel by director David Gordon Green and writer Danny McBride, comes the second installment of a new Halloween trilogy. This film will follow Laurie Strode, reprised by Jamie Lee Curtis, and her daughter, played by Judy Greer. There's not much else known about the story line, but other stars cast for the film are Anthony Michael Hall and Kyle Richards.

How will Laurie stave off her killer brother this time? It's set to come out right before Halloween on October 16, 2020.

After the love from the first one, the newest Christmas Chronicles will air on Netflix sometime this November. Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn will reprise their roles as Mr. and Mrs. Claus, along with the Pierce Family, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Judah Lewis, and Darby Camp.

In this sequel, Kate Pierce (Camp) reunites with Santa as a teenager when a magical troublemaker threatens to destroy Christmas.  Chris Columbus will again produce this film and Tyrese Gibson has been cast as the boyfriend of widowed Mrs. Pierce (Williams-Paisley). After watching the first chronicles, viewers no longer have to wait to see what other adventures Santa will get into.

In the age of monster films, we will finally get the age-old question answered, who will win in a battle, King Kong or Godzilla? Both monsters were rebooted in films a few years ago with rave reviews and success in the box office.  The sequel to Godzilla: King of Monsters and Kong: Skull Island is set to hit theaters November 20, 2020.

It's being directed by Adam Wingard and will star Millie Bobby Brown and Alexander Skarsgard. Who do you think will win this epic battle?

The 25th James Bond film will be hitting theaters November 25, 2020. In the latest installment, Daniel Craig will reprise his role of Bond for possibly the last time.  Bond has left active service and is enjoying retirement in Jamaica when an old friend asks for his help in rescuing a kidnapped scientist.

Rami Malek is the villain in this movie, with some known characters reprising their roles.

Over thirty years after Prince Akeem, Eddie Murphy, came to America the first time, he's back as a king to find his long-lost son and heir to the kingdom of Zamunda. This is a sequel you probably didn't even know you needed, but will have you excited to have the comedic duo of Murphy and Arsenio Hall, as Semmi, back on the big screen.

James Earl Jones will also reprise his role as King Joffer.  New characters will come into play in this movie and will be portrayed by Wesley Snipes, Tracy Morgan, and Rick Ross, to name a few. The long awaited sequel to the 1988 movie will arrive in theaters December 18, 2020.

Dom and his team are back again in the 9th installment of the Fast & Furious franchise. The movies have been a large success, even getting its own ride at Universal Studios in Florida, and the ninth movie is bound to continue in the footsteps of the movies before.

Cypher, played by Charlize Theron, will enlist the help of Dom's younger brother Jakob, played by John Cena, to get revenge on Dom (Vin Diesel) and his team.  The original cast will be reprising their roles, including Diesel, Jordana Brewster, and Michelle Rodriguez The film was supposed to come out in May 2020 but has been postponed until April 2021.

There are a few sequels that are coming out in 2021 or still don't have a release date. Two of these movies star Keanu Reeves, as Matrix 4 and John Wick: Chapter Four are slated to come out in the same weekend in May 2021.  One of those movies will surely change as Reeves can't possibly advertise both movies at once.

Other movies coming out include:

A new Die Hard movie called McClane which will be a sort of origin story for Bruce Willis' character.

Reese Witherspoon confirmed this sequel last year, but provided no plot details or whether other favorite characters will be returning.

Finally! The movie scripts for the four sequel movies are finished, but they still need to be filmed.

Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, and Sam Worthington are said to be reprising their roles.

Gladiator 2 will be set 25-30 years after the original took place and follow Lucius, the nephew of Commodus, who was played by Joaquin Phoenix.

Lebron James will help the Looney Tunes save the world from the monsters by playing basketball.

Similar to the original, and shooting to theaters July 2021.

There are no known plot details except that Harrison Ford is onboard to reprise his role as Indiana Jones and it will be a new approach to the franchise.

Fantastic Beasts 3 and Pirates of the Caribbean 6: both of which have confirmed Johnny Depp will reprise his role as Grindelwald and Captain Jack Sparrow, respectively.
