After A Girl Wore Ripped Jeans To School, She Got Suspended For Ignoring Their Effect On Boys

One day, Melissa McKinlay's daughter got suspended for wearing ripped jeans to school.

Not only did the school staff embarrass her in front of her classmates, but the school administrator also gave her a lecture about how her outfit affected the boys in her class.

Suspended

Melissa's daughter was doing a quiz when suddenly the administrator asked her to leave the class and follow him.

Then, the principal announced that they were suspending her for wearing ripped jeans to school.

Furious

When Melissa found out her daughter had been suspended for wearing ripped jeans, she was furious with the administrator's decision.

She turned to Facebook to address an open letter to the school district of Florida's Palm Beach County. "My daughter wore a pair of jeans today to school," she began.

"Consider The Boys"

"They had a hole in the knee. In the middle of a quiz in her History class, a male administrator came into the classroom," Melissa continued.

"The administrator told my daughter that she needed to consider the guys in her class and their hormones when choosing her wardrobe."

Unfair Treatement

"He then yanked her out of class and threw her into in-school suspension for the remainder of the day. So, she missed an entire day of core classes and couldn't finish her quiz."

Melissa also attached a photo of her daughter's ripped jeans that she wore that day.

Inappropriate

Melissa claimed that the administrator's actions were inappropriate and that he should also be suspended for shaming women.

The administrator picked the wrong family to mess with. In July 2018, Melissa was elected as Palm Beach County Mayor.

Determined

In addition, Melissa is also a member of the District Six council.

She believed that the administrator should be punished for shaming her daughter, and she was ready to do extreme things to achieve it.

Dress Code Violation

Melissa was aware that her daughter violated the dress code of her school. But this rule applies to males, too.

“We don’t need to be the tatter police,” said Mary Stratos, the school principal.

Badly Handled Incident

But even though Melissa knew her daughter had violated the school's dress code, she was still upset with the school administrator.

She didn't think giving her daughter a lecture on boys' hormones was appropriate.

Facebook Post

She believed it was unfair to make young girls responsible for her male classmates' hormones.

"I'm sorry, but excuse me? Perhaps my daughter should have worn a different pair of jeans," Melissa wrote on Facebook.

Not Her Fault

"But why should she have to worry about dressing a certain way to curtail a boy's potential behavior?"

"So, like, it's her fault if the boy touches her because of what she was wearing?" she continued.

Control Your Hormones

Melissa was furious.

"Did seeing a knee affect your ability to concentrate? I'd like to think her intelligence and quick wit, beautiful smile, and wicked sense of humor might. But her knee?"

Unfair Treatement

No one knows how often Melissa's daughter had broken the dress code, but many people agree with her mother on Facebook that the school administrator mistreated her.

"The message that somehow a woman's wardrobe is responsible for a man's behavior is wrong," Melissa wrote on Facebook.

Melissa's Message

"In any form. I am hopeful this will be used as an opportunity to provide further sensitivity training to staff and students."

She believes it was unfair for her daughter to go through so much just because her jeans had some holes in them.

Traumatizing Experience

“Such a violation never warrants the experience she had yesterday,” she continued.

Melissa hopes that the school administrator will stop treating women this way after this incident.
