Man Stumbles Across Badger's Den, Has No Idea What's Hiding Inside

An Incredible Find

He felt sweat beading on his brow, was this stuff even legal to keep? He watched the furry animal dig even more of the items out. He watched in awe. There must have been more than 200 pieces all-in-all.

They looked very old. They must have been worth a fortune. He couldn't believe what he had stumbled upon.

Alex De Leon

Alex De Leon was a normal guy who lived in Northern Spain his whole life. But while most normal people had a cat or a dog as pets and the most exotic it generally got was a bird or reptile - Alex had something unorthodox.

Alex would take walks with his pet - a beautiful badger named Henry.

Best Friends

Alex lived an hour from the capital where his parents lived. At the age of 20, he had left all his friends and family behind for work, which generally meant it was lonely.

That was until the day he found a badger trapped in a drainage gate. He rescued the poor animal and after it refused to stop following, a friendship formed. Alex named him Henry, and the two became inseparable.

Weekly Walks.

Alex would work hard every weekday with a company that was fortunate enough to let him work from home. That also meant he would be able to take care of and keep a close eye on his furry friend while he worked.

His badger would often get restless while in his apartment, which meant he would have to take him on walks on the weekends.

Needing To Dig

Alex loved his furry companion, but if he didn't get enough exercise during the week, he would start to dig his sofa or even his bed. He knew he had to organize a way for his badger to get that energy out of him, but he would have to wait for the weekend.

But Alex had no idea that his new pet's digging habit would lead him to a fortune.

A Dig In The Countryside

With the week finally over, Alex decided to take Henry out for a walk in the countryside. It was the perfect place since he could dig to his heart's content. He was bonding with his new friend since he hadn't had the opportunity to make any new friends.

But Alex couldn't believe what his badger would find once they started digging.

Unearthing Treasure

Alex was happy to see his friend curiously sniffing and scratching everywhere they went. They had been walking for twenty minutes when Henry stopped dead in his tracks. He had found something. He coincidentally found an old badger den. Could this have been his before he was rescued?

But once Alex realized what treasure his friend was trying to show him, his world was turned upside down.

History

Alex had heard of objects left behind by the Roman Empire in Spain. Apparently, they couldn't carry all of it back to Rome, so they buried a lot of what they had plundered. Was this what he had found?

He couldn't believe his newfound friend had been keeping these a secret all this time.

Something Amazing

How had Henry found all of these objects? He was starting to feel suspicious. This spot was close to where he had rescued the badger two months ago. Was it possible that he was familiar with this den?

If it was his, then he had been collecting the items for a long time to get so many. But Alex didn't know that it was only the beginning.

A Thank You

It then clicked with Alex. He had mostly been following Henry while they walked in the field. He had led him to this spot. He must have known where it was ahead of time.

Henry was familiar with this den. It must have been his hoard that he wanted to show to Alex as a thank you for saving him and looking after him.

Worth A Fortune

He felt sweat beading on his brow, was this stuff even legal to keep? He watched the furry animal dig even more of the items out. He watched in awe; there must have been more than 200 pieces all-in-all.

They looked very old; they must have been worth a fortune. He couldn't believe what he had stumbled upon.

200 Coins

Alex crouched down low and inspected the items. He pulled out coin after coin, his mouth hanging open with the seemingly never-ending stream of treasure. But before he could do anything else, he had to make sure he knew what he was dealing with.

He had to make some phone calls to find out more about the coins his badger had found.

Making A Call

Alex got in touch with local archaeologists to ask them about what he had found. After speaking with them for around 30 minutes, he had a much better idea of what he had in front of him. They had organized to come out and confirm that it was indeed the hoard he had described.

Alex waited patiently for the experts to come in.

Arriving At The Scene

Soon the archaeologists were on the scene with special equipment to dig out more of the coins. But when Alex saw what they were going to his badger's den, he refused to let them. After a heated argument, they finally agreed to let him dig them out by hand. After all, Henry had been the one who found them.

Once all the coins were out, the archaeologists couldn't believe what they were looking at.

209 Roman Coins

The exact number of coins in the den was 209 and were dated between the third and fifth centuries. Unfortunately, Alex wouldn't be able to keep the coins; they were going to be taken to the museum of Asturias in Spain.

But he was compensated for finding them and just enjoyed the adventure Henry had taken him
