Since the beginning of civilization humankind has been obsessed with fighting.
From the bloody dirt of the Roman Coliseum to the sacrificial killing grounds of the Aztecs you would be hard pressed to find a culture, even in the present day, that doesn’t express a fascination for warfare.
The Army has its own special forces, the Delta Force.
Used in counter terrorism missions, the Delta Force Are the elite army soldiers that fight with extreme precision.
Trained in all sorts of weaponry and different forms of hand to hand combat.
Alexander The Great
Alexander The Great was a powerful warrior and king of Greece and Macedonia.
He was born in 356 BC and was known for defeating most of the modern world.
He would defeat you, colonize you and make you learn the ways of the Greek, effectively spreading the Greek way all over the Earth.
Yakuza
Yakuza is the infamous Japanese Mafia known for controlling all the criminal activities in Japan.
Yakuza are also known for their elaborate full body tattoos that are the famous criminal leaders calling cards.
These guys kill without asking questions and rule with an iron fist.
Atilla The Hun
Atilla The Hun was born in Hungary and killed his own brother to become the sole leader of the Huns.
He attacked Roman settlements but never attacked Rome itself.
He was a brutal warrior who left no soldiers alive.
Genghis Khan
Genghis Khan was the leader of the Mongols, the collection of all the nomadic tribes of Asia.
He controlled the mongols and used their shear size and force top overcome all that opposed him.
China build its Great Wall as a defense against the mongol horde.
Celtic Warrior
Celtic Warrior were known on history as the barbarians, the brutal warriors who left no enemies alive and burned all that they crossed.
Known for their deadly weaponry that included the deadly battle axe.
Army Ranger
Tracing their lineage back to the Colonial Army when American generals combined European technology with Indian tactical warfare the Rangers are well known for their fearlessness as the worlds premier infantry attack force.
Hannibal The Carnage
Hannibal The Carnage was known for using elephants in battle and marched them all across southern Europe against the Romans.
He fought the Romans hard and pushed them back when they tried to invade Carthage.
Israeli Commando
Tasked with defending one of the smallest nations on Earth from almost every military within a thousand miles the Israeli Defense Force has no option, it has to be good. Naturally, from among the ranks of the best emerge the best of the best.
Shaolin Monks
Known as the Sayaret, or Commandos, this elite group of fighters get no rest as they take the battle to the enemy.
Shaolin Monks are the creators of Kung Fu, basically.
These proud Buddhist monks would train endlessly until they reached enlightenment and once they reached that, they were some of the best fighters in the world.
Spartan
When a Spartan man went to war his wife would present him his shield and say, “With this or upon this.” Spartan boys were taken from their mothers and sent to military boot camps to train from the age of 7. They were introduced to enormous hardship including scarce food and clothing. This would often lead to them becoming great thieves.
Persian Immortal
If they were caught, however, they were punished severely. Not for stealing, but for being caught.
The Immortals were a group of heavy infantry that stood 10,000 strong at all times. It didn’t matter how many you killed. As soon as one died another would step in.
Gladiator
Ten thousand, no more no less. This is how they allegedly received their name.
Gladiator means “swordsman” in Latin. Most of these Roman warriors were seen as slaves and lived their lives not only fighting each other but also as condemned criminals in large arenas. Having sworn to live and die by the sword many times it was left up to the crowds to decide the fate of a bested Gladiator.
Italian Mafia
Sadly few of these warriors survived more than 10 matches.
The Italian Mafia made waves in the early 20th Century by controlling the alcohol trade during America’s prohibition.
Most of the Italian Mafia came from Sicily where the rough streets of the Italian island made for tough immigrants who migrated to the New World in the late 19th century.
Famous for the wildly popular Tommy Guns, these criminals would kill for power.
Apache
Known for their bravery in battle, Apache warriors were a force to be reckoned with. By the time the Apache nation surrendered to the United States in 1886 there were only about 50 warriors left including their fearless leader, the famous Geronimo.
Ming Warrior
As one of the first militaries to incorporate gunpowder into their ranks, the Ming were a formidable force and managed to expand China’s frontier significantly. Not only were they ruthless warriors however, they were also very efficient as each division of the Ming army was required to be sustain itself and produce its own food.
French Musketeers
We all heard the stories of the Three Musketeers, a band of skilled swordsmen who fought for France and protected the crown.
Similar to our Secret Service, their main job was keeping the King of France alive.
Triads Gang
The triads are the notorious Chinese mafia famous for their elaborate full body tattoos , brutal enforcement techniques and countless criminal activities.
Known to operate in Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan, the Triads are an extremely dangerous criminal organization.
The Triads use murder and fear to keep power and run most criminal activities in China.
Viking Warrior
Viking Warriors were known for their brutality and total destruction as the sailed all over the northern hemisphere raping and pillaging.
Viking Warriors are the first people from Europe to discover the New World as the landed on Greenland years before Columbus.
They would kill every adult male, enslave the women and children and rape all women old enough.
Villages were burned after their blitzkriegs.
Russian Spetsnaz
Spetsnaz, literally means “force of special purpose” in Russian. Little is known about these warriors due to intense secrecy surrounding their training and operations.
French Foreign Legion
They have, however, managed to create a fierce reputation for themselves as one of the most elite special forces units in the world and have been responsible for the training of many anti-western military forces.
Founded in 1831, the French Foreign Legion is a unit that allows foreign mercenaries to come and fight for French interests around the world. Having achieved a reputation in pop culture as being a place where wronged men go to restart their lives, it is in fact an elite fighting force whose members many times are recruited by other armies.
Somali Pirates
Somali Pirates are a warrior bred out of necessity.
Somalia is one of the poorest countries in the world and there are few ways to make money other than fishing.
Since many people have access to boats, guns and the extremely busy East African Shipping lanes, being pirates just made sense.
These fighters aren’t well trained, just very desperate, which is often more dangerous than well trained fighters.
Green Beret
A member of the US Army Green Berets are specialists in unconventional warfare. As dangerous as they are on the battlefield though they are also required to be highly intelligent.
Ninja
Due to the nature of their job assignments they must be fluent in an assigned foreign language which they will learn while in training.
These covert Japanese agents specialized in unorthodox arts of war. Often the “whatever it takes” mentality of these warriors is contrasted against the Samurai who upheld a strict code of honor and combat.
Vietcong
Essentially spies, ninjas specialized in espionage, sabotage, and assassination.
American’s learned just how vicious the Vietcong were when they fought them in the Vietnam War.
Known for digging elaborate tunnels and waiting months for the perfect opportunity to strike, the Vietcong are some of the most disciplined fighters ever.
Mongol Horseman
The Mongols had one mission – destruction. Their take-no-prisoners mentality helped them to conquer more of the world than any other empire in history. And it wasn’t just that they could ride horses.
Joan Of Arc
It was that they could snipe you through the heart with an arrow while riding their horses.
Also known as the Maid Of Orleans, this french woman fought for the French army dressed up as a man, because women weren’t allowed to fight.
She actually lead a battle and defeated the english but was captured soon afterwards and burned at the stake as they believed she was as witch.
Taliban
The Taliban were created by Western intervention in the Muslim world.
These fighters or jihadists want their way of life to be the only way of life, with Sharia law being at the forefront.
They make women wear hijabs or head coverings and generally don’t believe in basic human rights.
They are well trained soldiers who are willing to die for their cause, very dangerous.
Comanche
Having an almost legendary status, Comanches have often been referred to as the “Lords of the Plains”. In fact, legend states that the Comanche could fire arrows at his enemy while hanging from the neck of his horse.
Viking
The idea of Vikings running around with horns on their helmets is a fairy tale. So is the idea that they drank out of human skulls. Its worth noting that there is a reason for these misconceptions however.
Roman Centurion
The Vikings were scary, especially to their European neighbors due to their aggression and brutal fighting style, particularly the use of battle axes.
The concept of the Centurion was revolutionary for its day as it was the first time in history that a man could make a legitimate living entirely off of warfare and killing. In order to attain this position however, a Roman soldier had to work his way up through the ranks and prove that there were none better.
Pirates
Pirates are savages of the sea, who steal and rob what they need and want.
They aren’t the most skilled fighters, but what they lack in fighting prowess they make up for in trickery and cunningness.
Pirates controlled the Caribbean Sea for centuries, making voyages there extremely dangerous.
Known for carrying curved swords, wielding pistols and shooting cannons form their pirate ship.
Maori Warrior
Having a reputation for eating their enemies in order to capture their “Mana”, the Maori were fierce warriors who would engage in a war dance, prior to attacking their enemies as an effort to intimidate them and even give them a preview of the ensuing slaughter.
French Musketeer
Combining class with pure deadliness the musketeers were a group of elite bodyguards to the King of France. With the ability to both spear you at close range and hit you from a distance they did their job and they did it well.
Zande Warrior
The Zande are a tribe that was feared throughout central Africa for their brutality on the battlefield.
Rajput Warrior
They even filed their teeth to take on frightening appearances and use a chant of “nyam-nyam”, which was a name given to them by neighboring tribes meaning “great eaters.”
Literally translated to “son of a king” you cannot just wake up one day and decide to be a rajput warrior. You have to be born into it. These legendary bringers of death are still very active in the Indian military.
Sun Tzu
It has been theorized that the source of their skill is derived from the fact that their homeland, Rajasthan, was located right on the Indian border making them the first line of defense against enemy invaders.
Sun Tzu famously wrote the combat strategy book, The Art of War.
A master strategist and warrior, Sun Tzu knew more about war than most people ever.
Samurai
These Japanese swordsmen led their lives according to the code of Bushido, or “way of the warrior”. Although they have been romanticized in recent years, the Samurai were heavily bound by honor. One notable result of this was Seppuku.
Gurkha
This was a form of ritualistic suicide where the warrior would disembowel himself to regain his honor.
Originally from Nepal, these reckless warriors caught the eye of the British Empire during the East India Trading Company’s invasion of Nepal in 1814. Impressed with their skill and courage, the British offered them the chance to fight for them.
Navy SEAL
Gurkhas have since fought for numerous countries, including the United States, in multiple conflicts.
America’s amphibious special force, the Navy SEALs are so good at unconventional warfare that it doesn’t matter what they’re holding – it’s a weapon. They are trained for one purpose, to neutralize the enemy.
They have even been known to operate outside of international law and military protocol in order to maintain plausible deniability in case of capture.
