Body paint – Flower Power y’all
Cool before they even knew what cool was.
Originally taken from ‘Hipster’, the term “hippie” was used to describe beatniks who found their technicolor heart in the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco; children of the road who believed they should make love, not war.
Flower power was a slogan used during the late 1960s and early 1970s as a symbol of passive resistance and non-violence ideology It is rooted in the opposition movement to the Vietnam War. The expression was coined by the American beat poet Allen Ginsberg in 1965 as a means to transform war protests into peaceful affirmative spectacles.
Naked campfire jam sessions
Hippies embraced the symbolism by dressing in clothing with embroidered flowers and vibrant colors, wearing flowers in their hair, and distributing flowers to the public, becoming known as flower children.
Hippies used music to express themselves emotionally, spiritually, and politically. Music can make a statement, give voice to a movement, even unite us. As hippies explore their inner world, music guides them along in their quest for meaning.
Why just shot gun a beer when you could take a growler to the face?
Without drugs it can get you high. With drugs, well, let's just say, music can be a religious experience.
Many of the hundreds of thousands of rock fans were high on either drugs or wine as they gathered here to enjoy the free Altamont concert by the Rolling Stones and other rock groups.

We couldn’t believe how many people had gotten there. The crowd filled the hills, all the way to the horizon.

I mean, anybody that wants to blame on hippies can rest assured they did two things better than any other societal movement...They knew how to LOVE and they knew how to PARTY!
Over 400,000 people crammed onto some farmland in New York listening to Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and The Who, among others while drinking beer, making friends and soaking up the summer sun? Yeah, sounds like a pretty good time to me.
The temple

Hippies at Glastonbury Festival in 1971 celebrate the summer solstice with music and dancing. A chance meeting on the nearby Tor with set designer Bill Harkin resulted in the Pyramid Stage, which came to the Liverpudlian a dream.

I know that it's one of the most common lines in pop music but that's all I can remember considering I was born in 1995.

I remember it being played all the time at theme park rides and it was my favorite song as a little kid.
Cannabis opens doorways in your brain that elicit increased creativity. The altered state of perception makes creating fun, and actually makes your mind more malleable to learning skills.

Commune or Playboy Mansion?
They came in search of free love, free energy and free cannabis, but what happened to the expat hippies who found Nirvana on the edge of an Australian volcano?
Father Yod or YaHoWha, born James Edward Baker, was the American owner of one of the country's first health food restaurants, on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles. He founded a spiritual commune in the Hollywood Hills known as the Source Family.

He was also lead singer of the commune's experimental psychedelic rock band, Ya Ho Wha 13.
Maybe that's because there were 140 people living in just a three-bedroom house.
Topless sunbathing
The family built sleeping platforms outdoors on the hillside; they also "used the attic, and then took a few of the large rooms and hallways and ingeniously built what father called 'beehives' or 'cubbyholes.' These 'cubbies' were basically wooden bunks, built of 4' x 8' sheets of plywood, four feet above one another, from floor to ceiling.
In the latter half of the sixties, a generation with an energy and a vision appeared on the horizon - a dramatic force that brought the American conservative scene to a halt. The young decided to take destiny into their own hands, and shape a future of love and caring.

Swiss Family Robinson Treehouses
In 1969 Howard Taylor owned seven acres on Kauai’s North Shore and invited a group of young men, women, and children who had recently been arrested for vagrancy—the 13 original colonists, so to speak—to set up camp there.

Hippies attempted a back to the land ideology, fishing and farming, while also relying on welfare and food stamps.
Taylor camp, as it became known, was named after Howard Taylor, the actress's older brother who owned the stretch of land on the north shore of Kauai.

Taylor Camp covered an area of 7 acres (2.8 ha) and at its peak it had a population of 120Cherry with Moses upstairs after nursing.
That is when I found the most amazing thing of all.
Every band sent a picture of themselves with their packets; these photos chronicled the outstanding fashion trends of the 70s.
