20 years after Diana's death, some of her secrets have been exposed. Even though she was a good person and did a lot of humanitarian work, Britain's "People Princess" had as well a less known dark side.

Most of them are due to her hard time with an unloving husband and having the whole Royal family against her...But still she could be considered as a good-hearted woman.

Everybody knows about the relationship between Charles and Camilla, who was the love of his life. It was said that Charles was standing at the window of the Buckingham Palace the night before the wedding with Diana, while tears were pouring down his face.

Dianas Affair

The reason behind his tears was that he knew that he wasn’t marrying the right woman. And further he felt pressured into marrying Diana, the only reason he did marry her, was that his true love Camilla was already married to someone else.


Charles wasn’t the only one to have an affair. From 1986 until 1991 Diana had an affair with James Hewitt, a former cavalry officer.

The Depression

He was madly in love with her and he even considered commiting suicide after Diana broke up with him. Asking Hewitt about what he thinks Charles would have felt he answered boldly: „He was probably grateful someone was looking for his wife“.


Since the beginning their marriage was set to fail. So it isn't actually a surprised when Diana went public and told the media that she has suffered from a bad depression.

She even hurt herself, cutting her arms and legs until she found professional help.

She sold 79 dresses and raised almost 6 million pounds for charity, especially for breast cancer and Aids patients.

At their wedding vows she refused to say that she will "obey" her husband, how it is used to say in the Royal Family, which shocked the Queen for breaking royal precedent.

The Humanitarian

Her sons still upheld these values up to this day.


Diana loved humanitarian work, it was her passion to help people. She travelled from schools to animal sanctuaries and even to sub-saharan African countries to give aid to HIV/AIDS victims. She tried to get rid of stereotypes about HIV victims, and was the first royal family member who had direct contact with them, despite the Queen being against it.

Diana said:“HIV does not make people dangerous to know. You can shake their hands and give them a hug. Heaven knows they need it.”
