Before And After: 21 Celebs Who Hit The Gym Hard

Khloe Kardashian

Some people look at celebrities and think that they have so much time on their hands. Yet,  the reality of it is for those stars who are still active, is that there is a lot of work to be done.

When these celebrities get consumed in their work, sometimes is really difficult for them to find time to hit the gym and they gain a few unwanted pounds. But with the desire to get back in shape, many of these celebrities hit the gym in order to look the best they can in the spotlight, despite their already time-consuming schedules.

Out of the three Kardashian sisters, Khloe said she was consistently known as the "chubby" sister. Yet, after time and dedication at the gym, Khloe lost 40 pounds, making her look better than ever. “If you were to ask me five years ago if I ever saw myself being completely in love with fitness and health, that I would be an inspiration to many others, that I would be the push that others needed to find their way, I would’ve laughed in your face,” Khloe said.

Hilary Duff

“Me? The chubby one? No way!”

After she gave birth to her baby in 2012, Duff was criticized in the media for her weight. She was accused of not being able to get back down to her weight before the pregnancy. Duff didn't take the ridicule too lightly. and hit the gym to prove that she can get her body back. Although people now criticize the media for ridiculing Duff for her weight, Duff has the last laugh because she looks great now.

Taylor Lautner

“I was learning how to be a new mom, and I needed to go get my hair done. Then they’re like, ‘Hilary Debuts Her Post-Baby Body!’ I was like, I’m not debuting right now. I’m just going on an errand run! There is way too much pressure on women these days. It took me a whole 10 months to build a baby,” Duff told reporters.

Whether it was his motivation to look good with his shirt off in the Twilight series, or he simply wanted to change his physical appearance for the better, Taylor Lautner surely looks better after cranking out a few reps at the gym.

Jennifer Hudson

We think it's safe to say that his muscles suit him better.

Jennifer's dramatic body change happened over the course of several years, which just goes to show that determination is the key to a healthier body of this magnitude because results like this don't happen overnight. Hudson went from a size 16 to a size 6, but told Oprah Winfrey during an interview that she's not interested in getting any smaller than she already is.

Kelly Osbourne

"I like meat on my bones," Hudson said. "A 2 and a 0, that's not for me."

After struggling with a larger figure for the majority of her life, Osbourne adopted a strict training schedule and diet plan, reducing carbs and sugars and hitting the gym 3 to 4 times a week. “I call myself a former fat person, and when you’re an FFP, you still see yourself as the person you used to be," Osbourne Admitted. "That’s something I’m genuinely working on all the time.

Chris Hemsworth

I’ve learned how to eat right and look after myself. Also, I don’t weigh myself. If you like what you see in front of the mirror, then what’s the f—ing point of getting on a scale?”

Actor Chris Hemsworth has never really had a bad body, but he took things to new levels for his role as Thor in the Marvel films.

J.K. Simmons

He's had previous roles where he lost a bunch of weight but has maintained a constant bulk ever since his huge role as Thor.

J.K. Simmons is no stranger when it comes to weight changes.

Jessica Simpson

He even admits to being overweight in his younger days. “After the second and final time that I got hugely fat in my life and when I lost that weight six or seven years ago, I pretty much decided that I was going to stay in decent shape for the rest of my life,” Simmons said.

Jessica Simpson is one of the most famous celebrities to go through dramatic weight fluctuations, but she has since gotten back to a figure she is happy with due to a healthy diet and gym regimen.

Chris Pratt

“Working out and being active overall makes me a happier person to be around,” Simpson said.

Chris Pratt looks great, even with a dad bod. However, with a perfect physic, which he developed for Guardians of the Galaxy, he looks the best he can possibly be.

Kirstie Alley

The film's producers hired him to play the lead role of 'Star-Lord' on one condition-- that he would turn that belly fat into rock-hard abs. From this transformation, it's pretty obvious he succeeded the best he possibly could.

Kirstie Alley is no stranger to weight fluctuation, as her being the former spokesperson for Jenny Craig. When it came to weight loss, Alley said: "Before I had more of a view of 'Get to the goal, have the goal,'" she explained. "I thought, 'OK, what is the goal?

Ryan Reynolds

What is the time span of the goal?' I really looked at it as this is my life, and until I'm dead basically, I am going to keep . Instead of like, 'Oh, I lost 50 pounds and now I can do whatever I want.' I don't have that anymore. … My goal is to keep this and maintain this throughout my life."

Ryan Reynolds may be the stereotypical nice guy in Hollywood, but his muscular performance in Blade Trinity was due to many hours spent in the gym. Back in the early 2000's, Reynold was cast playing small parts in cheap comedies, even donning a fat suit for his performance in Just Friends.

Kelly Clarkson

But in 2004, Reynolds got his big action movie break starring in the third installment of the Blade movies, playing the Hannibal King. After the film, Reynolds kept his body in shape, a decision the proved to be right when he starred in the film X-Men Origins: Wolverine and eventually Deadpool.

Kelly Clarkson is another celebrity who we've seen throughout the years whose weight has gone up and down. But regardless of the critics out there, Clarkson has maintained a weight which she is happy with at the moment.

Hugh Jackman

When asked about her workout routine, Clarkson said, "sometimes I'm more fit and I get into kickboxing and hardcore, and then sometimes I don't and go, 'Nope, I'd rather have wine!'"

When Hugh Jackman signed on to play the role of Wolverine in 2000's 'X-Men' movie, he had no idea he signed a multi-decade contract with the gym as well.

Gerard Butler

For every 'X-Men' movie, Jackman had to spend at least six months at the gym, making his muscles look like a Greek god and making sure his diet isn't hurting his body.

Gerard Butler’s body in the hit film 300 has been labeled as one of the most impressive male physiques on the big screen.

Christian Bale

But before he put in work at the gym to master the physical look of the role, his body looked like your typical dad-bod rather than that of an ancient warrior.

Christian Bale is one of the best-known actors when it comes to body transformations. He has bulked up for roles in films such as The Dark Knight and American Psycho and has put on some major weight for his role in American Hustle.

Christina Aguilera

But probably most notably, his craziest weight transformation came when he played the role of Trevor Reznik in The Machinist when he lost so much weight in such a short amount of time, it caused permanent damage to his body.

Mo’Nique

Due to a well-balanced diet, yoga, and regular workouts with her trainer, Christina Aguilera reportedly lost nearly 50 pounds, and she has since loved going to the gym.
“If I have to choose between working out and spending time with my son after a hard day, it’s not even a question,” Aguilera said.

Although the comedian has always vocal about loving her body the way it was, she made the decision to get healthy after being diagnosed with high blood pressure and has since lost an astonishing 90 pounds!

John Goodman

She did so by cutting out junk food and hitting the gym whenever she could fit in the time.

John Goodman has always been the laughable chubby guy, but not anymore! The actor has reportedly lost over 100 pounds. "This didn’t happen overnight — it’s been an ongoing process," Goodman's trainer said.

Jason Segal

"There needs to be strategic planning. This time, he really wanted to do it."

In order to get in shape for his role in the film Sex Tape, notorious funny guy Jason Segal took his weight very seriously and started hitting the gym. “I’ve just been living healthy, exercising, eating right—no more midnight pizzas,” Segal told reporters.

“This time when I take my shirt off, I’ve made a promise to myself, it doesn’t have to be funny.”
