Sick To The Stomach
Lily woke up feeling like hell. She was coughing and had a fever sky high. She went to the doctor’s office to get a flu shot. She had heard that it was the best way to prevent getting sick.
“Why am I feeling even worse than before I went to the doctor,” she panicked. She wanted to scream for help but her throat was dry and didn’t make a sound.
Nobody knew where she was.
In a small town in Texas nestled between rolling hills and a crystal-clear river, there lived a young girl named Lily. She was just fourteen years old and had a heart full of dreams and aspirations.
She was a smart, kind, and hardworking teenager who was determined to make something of herself. Lily was the type of teen who was always prepared and never let anybody peer pressure her into anything.
So how this terrible thing happened to her is a mystery.
One sunny morning, Lily woke up feeling a bit under the weather. She had a runny nose, a scratchy throat, and a headache that wouldn’t go away.
Worried that she might have caught the flu, her mother took her to the doctor’s office to get a flu shot.
Doctor Roberts was her family doctor so she trusted him. It was also the start of a new school term so she needed to protect her already weak immune system.
Lily didn’t like needles, but she knew it was for her own good, so she closed her eyes and gritted her teeth as the nurse gave her the shot. Afterward, she felt a little bit better, and the two of them went home.
She was feeling a bit woozy but decided not to tell the nurse.
She didn’t know this mistake would have her waking up with regrets.
After receiving the shot from Dr. Roberts, Lily went home and slept all day. The next morning, she woke up feeling worse than ever. Her cough had worsened, and she felt nauseous.
“What’s going on with me?” she thought as she looked at her pale face in the mirror. She poked her white cheeks.
It seemed as if all her blood was drained from her body.
Not A Normal Feeling
Days turned into weeks, and Lily’s flu symptoms went away. She was happy that she was back to her normal self but something else was starting to happen to her. Although she was flu-free not all was well. The young girl tried to ignore it.
However, something else began to manifest within her. She was feeling tired all the time, and her appetite had grown insatiable.
Her mother thought it was just a growth spurt, but Lily knew deep down that something wasn’t right.
Lily thought that it was just the effects of the antibiotics and flu medication she was taking. “I think some of the medicines had steroids in them that’s why I’m picking up so much weight,” she told a close friend.
Her friend didn’t look convinced and was concerned about her health. “Perhaps you should go back to the doctor Lily,” her friend said with concern. “I’ll be ok, you’ll see,” Lily responded with a fake smile.
At the back of her mind, she knew her friend was right, she had to be responsible for her health. And find out what’s going on
A Friends Advice
Lily decided to take her friend Chloe’s advice. But she was going to find answers her own way. She had a plan. That night she snuck out of the house while her parents were sleeping and ran away.
She was on a mission and she didn’t have any time She needed to find it as fast as possible. This was her only chance.
She hoped nobody would catch her.
A Different World
Lily entered the cold sterile room with freshly painted white walls. The smell in the room made her sick to her stomach. She walked through the aisles of the 24-hour drug store searching for her target
Finally, she spotted it. There were so many of them. How would she know which one to choose?
She needed help but she couldn’t ask anyone. Someone may know my mother and I can’t risk that happening.
Too Many Choices
The worried teen browsed through the boxes. Reading the strange words, she had never read before. “Ovulation kit, fertility pills, Mid-stream pregnancy test”.
What is all of this? Which one is just a normal regular pregnancy test? She realized there was no signage for an underage girl falling pregnant, she was on her own.
Is there any right choice in this situation?
This Will Do
The confused child grabbed a few boxes that seemed affordable and headed for the checkout. As suspected the cashier gave her a weird look. “It’s for a friend,” Lily said sheepishly and looked around, hoping nobody she knew was around.
“That’s what they all say,” the rude cashier responded as she bagged the boxes. Lily gave her a mean stare and darted for the door.
She had to get home now.
Moment Of Truth
Luckily her parents didn’t notice she was gone. That night, Lily decided to take a pregnancy test. When she saw the two pink lines, she was in shock.
How could she be pregnant? She had only ever kissed a boy once, and it wasn’t even a serious relationship.
She paid attention during life skills class and she was always a quiet girl in class. How could this happen to me? She screamed into her pillow till her lungs were sore. Her life was over.
A Second Opinion
Lily decided to go back to the doctor’s office to see what was wrong. She was in a terrible state and when she arrived, she walked straight into the doctor’s office, she didn’t even have an appointment. Luckily the Doctor had just got in so he was free.
Lily let him have it. The scared Doctor struggled to calm down the frantic teen but finally got her to sit down and talk.
Lily refused to call her parents. She wanted to keep things confidential.
A Thorough Examination
Although Dr. Roberts was hesitant because Lily was an underage girl, he had no choice but to listen to her request. He promised that he wouldn’t call her parents just yet.
But he also made Lily promise that they would do the prescribed tests, with a female nurse present, and that they would contact her parents afterward.
Lily had no choice but to agree just to get the tests done. She still didn’t want to tell her mother, but she didn’t want to tell the kind doctor that just yet.
The doctor ran some tests and told Lily that she was pregnant. Lily was in shock. She was only fourteen and had no idea how this could have happened.
She had never done anything and she didn’t even have a boyfriend. What on earth was going on?
This was unexplainable to the distraught teen.
Worst News Ever
Lily didn’t know what to do, so she confided in her best friend, Chloe. Chloe was supportive and helped her come up with a plan to tell her mother. Lily knew it wouldn’t be easy, but she had to tell her.
Chloe made Lily promise that she would tell her mother. But Lily wasn’t ready to tell her mother just yet. She knew that she would be furious.
She would give her a lecture and tell her what an embarrassment she was.
Always The Bad Girl
Lily didn’t know what to do. She was scared and didn’t know who to turn to for help. She knew that she couldn’t keep the baby, but she didn’t want to get an abortion either. Lily was lost and didn’t know what to do.
She tried to tell her mother a few times but could never bring herself to.
Her father was also not the easiest person to talk to so she knew he wouldn’t understand either.
Time Is Going
Days turned into weeks, and Lily began to feel better physically. But emotionally, she was a wreck. She didn’t know how to tell her parents, her friends, or even the father of the baby. Lily felt alone and helpless.
She was feeling sick and she had started school. It was difficult trying to hide her growing stomach. She had to wear baggy clothes and hide in the changerooms.
What could she do to end this trauma?
Can’t Hide It Now
As the weeks went by, Lily began to show. Her parents noticed and asked her what was going on. Lily broke down and told them there was something important she had to tell them, but didn’t know how.
Her parents were extremely worried and tried to get her to open up, but the troubled teen couldn’t find the words to explain what was happening to her.
It wasn’t something that happened every day, she couldn’t tell her parents her truth.
No Time Like The Present
The next day, Lily’s mother came home from work, and Lily blurted out the news. Her mother was stunned but tried her best to be supportive.
Lily’s mother was beside herself with worry. She didn’t know how they were going to make it work, but she promised to stand by Lily no matter what.
She took Lily to the doctor, and they confirmed that she was indeed pregnant. Her parents were shocked but supportive. They promised to help Emily through this difficult time. But the question remained, how did she get impregnated?
A Mothers Faut
Lily’s mother, Sandra was having a difficult time dealing with her daughter’s issue and took to prayer. Sandra thought that it was an immaculate conception. She started speaking with the resident pastor at their church. She told him about Lily.
He believed that it was some sort of divine intervention and that Lily was a special chosen child. Sandra didn’t know what to believe.
But she wanted to make the best out of the situation. What would people say?
Lily’s pregnancy was difficult. She was young and inexperienced, and the thought of raising a child on her own was daunting. Chloe was there for her every step of the way, but it wasn’t enough.
Although she had a strong support network from her parents and her best friend, she was still mentally traumatized. Lily was not a silly girl; she was quite intelligent.
She couldn’t stop thinking about how it was not scientifically possible for this to happen to her.
A Different Story
One day, Lily got a call from the doctor’s office. They had some news. Dr. Roberts said he knew what had caused her to get impregnated. They needed to speak in person urgently.
Lily didn’t know how to feel, she didn’t know whether she was ready for the news.
She had waited so long and now the moment was finally here. How did she become pregnant at such a young age?
Knowing Where To Go
Lily knew that she could only turn to one person for answers. It was the medical professional she had seen before. Dr. Roberts looked like a man she could trust.
Doctors have to go through a long and hard journey to get their qualifications after all.
But when she was finally in front of the doctor, he said something she didn’t expect. It would leave her ears red.
Confronting The Doctor
Dr. Roberts told her to be honest with her parents about how she got pregnant. Lily couldn’t believe her ears. How could a qualified doctor not understand her predicament? She had paid for the treatment and still received such bad service.
She thought he understood the circumstance, but clearly, he wasn’t the person she thought he was.
But as soon as her parents were there with her, she felt that everyone was against her.
She wanted to complain to the medical authorities about the Doctors’ malpractice. The flustered teen had to go outside and take a breath of fresh air.
She wanted to find a new doctor.
Her parents seemed reluctant to go to a different doctor since Dr. Roberts knew her history. But seeing the look in her eyes, they knew that it was the best decision. It was all too much for the little girl who had been braced up until this point.
Not My Fault
The news was devastating, but Lily knew that she had to be strong for her baby. She continued to go to doctor’s appointments and took care of herself as best as she could. It was a strange pregnancy.
It was like nothing any of her friends had ever heard. She was far too young to have to be dealing with these things.
But what else was she supposed to do when there was no medical explanation for what had happened?
As her due date drew closer, Sandra became more anxious. She worried about how they would manage to raise the baby, but Lily tried her best to reassure her. Sandra had it in for the doctor.
There was something strange about the doctor. No one could put their finger on it, but he was hiding something.
But the truth would be the hardest thing to face once they found out his secret.
Lily knew the real truth about how she had become pregnant. She wouldn’t be able to keep it a secret any longer. The truth was bound to come out.
She wished she could just keep it out of her mind and forget about it. But she could no longer pretend that everything was fine when even her doctor was against her.
She would have to tell the truth eventually.
There was something worrying the young girl. She thought that she could ignore it. She thought that she could ignore him. But she didn’t know that she would soon have an unexpected visitor.
She thought that as long as things stayed the way they were, she could barely hang on. But she had no idea who was on their way to see her.
It would change her life unexpectedly.
Finally, the day arrived, and Lily went into labor. After what the doctor had told her, Lily was scared that her baby wouldn’t be okay.
Even with how messy and complicated things had become, she still wanted her baby to come out of it okay.
She wouldn’t be able to live with herself if anything happened to him or her because of how stressed she was.
It was a long and difficult labor, but eventually, the baby was born. Lily held her little bundle of joy in her arms and knew that everything would be fine.
She didn’t know that someone would have some shocking news for her about her baby soon.
It would shake her to her core and have her reconsidering every decision she had made up until this point.
Making The Most Out Of Life
Over the years, Lily worked hard to provide for her child. She juggled school, work, and motherhood, but she never gave up.
Her baby grew up to be healthy and happy, and Lily was proud of the person she had become.
She no longer cared about petty grievances and just tried to look ahead. But what happened to Dr. Roberts?
She never took Dr. Roberts on in a legal battle. She and her parents decided that it was best to let bygones be bygones and focus on the new life in their hands.
Her beautiful baby boy was everything that she needed to know that pettiness wasn’t worth it anymore.
As long as she had her beautiful baby with her, she’d be okay. But that still never solved the question, how did it happen in the first place?
Past Coming Back
Lily named her baby boy Jonah. He was a sweet child and rarely cried. She was surprised to say that she was actually enjoying motherhood.
This was a new chapter for Lily. She thought that if she just moved forward with her life then she wouldn’t have to deal with the consequences of what happened around the birth of her child.
But she was wrong.
Growing Up Quickly
She was growing up quickly and had to be mature for her child. Her parents loved little Jonah and treated him like their own.
They always wondered who the father of the child was, but they were not getting any answers from Lily.
Lily was prepared to stay quiet for the rest of her life if she was able to. But she had no idea that her past was going to creep up.
Not The End Of It
Sandra tried to get her daughter to open up, but she was a closed book.
Everytime she would bring up the baby’s father, Lily would just get angry and run away. Sandra was thinking of another plan.
Sandra needed to know not just for her curiosity but for the safety of Lily. Being in the dark only meant that she couldn’t help her daughter.
She wanted to get a DNA sample of the child. While Sandra was looking for a quiet moment alone with baby Jonah, she didn’t hear the doorbell ring with an unwanted visitor.
They knocked on the door, but again, no one answered.
This was someone that Sandra had never expected to end up on her doorstep. What would she do when she felt that her daughter and grandson were threatened?
A Familiar Face
“Hello?” The man on her doorstep started shouting as he banged on the door. This time Sandra heard him. She jumped up and felt a shiver run down her spine. Who had the audacity to bang on her door?
She crept down the hallway and to her front door. She felt her heart beating in her chest as she looked through the peephole and saw something she didn’t expect.
It was a familiar face.
Return Of Dr. Roberts
It was none other than Dr. Roberts. Sandra opened the door and asked him what he was doing on her porch without even calling.
The man looked out of breath and flustered as if he had rushed over there.
“You don’t understand. I need to tell you something about your daughter!” The man stammered to Sandra. She should have listened, but she tried to protect her daughter.
Telling Him To Leave
Sandra was worried for the safety of her daughter, so she couldn’t take any chances. She told the doctor to leave immediately.
She wasn’t interested in whatever he had to tell her. He looked angry but left.
She breathed a sigh of relief after the doctor had left. But she had no idea what kind of mistake she had just made.
A few hours later, Lily got home and asked her mother how looking after young Jonah had gone. Sandra’s face immediately went white.
She knew that she couldn’t hide what had happened to her from her daughter.
Sandra thought about it for a second before making her decision. “Dr. Roberts came by earlier. He said he had something important to tell me about you.” Lily’s face went pale.
What Did She Know?
“He didn’t say anything about Jonas, did he?” Lily asked with a concerned look on her face. “He never mentioned him, no,” Sandra replied.
She now felt suspicious. Why would her daughter bring up Jonas?
What did she know Dr. Roberts knew? Were they in this together with their shared knowledge that she didn’t know? As a mother, Sandra needed to find out what was going on.
Sandra was now convinced that her daughter was hiding something from her. She needed to find out a way of coaxing her daughter into telling her the truth.
She started second-guessing herself. Should she have heard what the doctor had to say?
“What’s going on, honey?” Sandra asked Lily. Her eyes were glued to the floor, and she didn’t seem like she wanted to answer.
The Real Father
“Do you know who the father is, Lily?” Sandra begged her daughter. “I just want to protect you.” Lily looked up at her mother, tears in her eyes. She opened her mouth and said something that would change everything.
“Dr. Roberts, he had a good reason to approach you about my child. He has a right, you could say.” She told her mother. The truth then dawned on Sandra. How had she not seen it before?
